Mary Beth Cahill: Mary Cheney is "Fair Game" (?!)

Kaus' take is interesting enough (he thinks Bush tied, and therefore won), but he reports something I didn't catch:

After the debate, Kerry campaign manager Mary Beth Cahill said Cheney's daughter was "fair game." Fair game? Who was being attacked? (It was supposed to be a discussion of whether homosexuality is a "choice" or innate. Bush had said he didn't know.) ...

The Susan Estricth strategy -- "it won't be pretty" -- is in full effect.

More Great Stuff From Kausfiles:

Kerry was puncturing the "hypocrisy" of Bush's position, as some Kerry defenders claim, only if the sole reason to oppose gay marriage is homophobia. I support the idea of experimenting with gay marriage, but surely it's possible to be a non-bigot and be reluctant to immediately tinker with such a venerable social institution....

Once you admit this possibility of non-bigoted reluctance, then Kerry's move looks less like hypocrisy-puncturing and more like a straight appeal to homophobia. As such, it does no credit to Kerry. ...

Perilous race analogy: What if Kerry were debating a conservative on affirmative action, and that conservative had a black wife, and Kerry gratuitously brought that up in an attempt to cost his opponent the racist vote? Would Andrew Sullivan approve? I don't think so. ...

I thought that Bush had a small but clear victory in the last debate, but my opinion is irrelevant. However, I do not think that a draw goes to Bush, rather a draw goes to Kerry. Bush's disapproval numbers are too high. Bush tying Kerry, on top of his very poor first debate performance, may be giving undecided voters (the only ones who matter at this point) the ammunition they need to vote for Kerry. I don't see how a tie gives people who haven't decided a reason to vote for Bush in the current context.

Ace,

I think you hit on something about the Cahill "fair game" remark. She pretty much admitted that the "party of tolerance" has no compunction in brandishing like a cudgel, one of their cherished "oppressed groups" in an attempt to score political points. And may I add that they also use it to obfuscate their squishiness in respect to their own position on said group's needs. To hell with some innocent individual; the greater good must be served. To hell with some oppressed group, the party must regain power!

Imagine that it was public knowledge that one of Kerry's daughters had had an abortion, then imagine Bush trying to make a sympathetic political point about it. He'd be eaten alive.

Troops wearing Union army uniforms walked by, and then the First Cavalry wearing their cavalry hats and big yellow buff leather gloves. They even had a horse-drawn wagon. Now WWI uniforms.
BTW, Tampon Tim, China stages a lot of Chinese army parades, too. Weird that you didn't compare Trump's military parade to the parades staged by your patrons in China.
A commenter says the Real America network will cover the Army's 250th Anniversary Parade starting at 4pm. (Eastern, I guess.) The Right Side Broadcasting network will cover it starting at 4:30.
Israel bombs Iran.
Finally.
Iran's top nuclear scientist says the nuke plant at Natanz has been completely destroyed. Though it's in Iran's interest to lie about Israel having been successful, so they can start their nuke program again while claiming it's all been destroyed.

Space Ice has avoided all superhero movies (I think) in the past, but now that he's out of Steven Seagal movies, he might have to transition. Or maybe he's just covering it because it's Arnold.
Wrong! He's done Madame Web and Morbius and probably a bunch more I've forgotten.
