Pakistan To Eject Foreign Students From Madrassas

Lately I'm more worried about the Pakistanis than anyone else, but it's a start.

Sort of. Not sure the lack of a Visa is going to deter these people.

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf says all foreign students at madrassas, or religious schools, some 1,400 pupils, must leave the country. "Any (foreigners) in the madrassas - even dual nationality holders - will leave Pakistan," Gen Musharraf said.

This is the latest in a series of measures the president has announced in a renewed clampdown on extremism.

Madrassas have been in the spotlight after one of the London bombers was reported to have studied at one.

Gen Musharraf told foreign journalists in Islamabad: "They must leave. We will not issue visas to such people.

"We will not allow madrassas to be misused for extremism, hatred being projected in our society."

I don't want to arrest the workers. I want the leaders of the banned groups. I'm not impressed by figures. We want to get all of the bigwigs

No new visas will be issued to foreigners wishing to study in the schools.

An ordinance would be adopted "in the coming days" on the new move, Gen Musharraf said.

He also told journalists that action would be taken against any of the madrassas that did not register with the authorities.

The president had previously announced all schools must register before December.

Pakistani forces have detained hundreds of clerics and suspected militants since President Musharraf announced a new crackdown on 15 July.

Pakistan is a real mess in many many ways, but Musharraf must move carefully against these ignorant fanatics.

They have tried to blow him up at least three times in the past few years and we probably have not heard about the dozens of other plots that have been smashed. Pakisitan is a BACKWARD country. A REALLY BACKWARD COUNTRY. These people are not without influence and powerful friends.

I think the General has been spending a lot of time cleaning out the Intelligence Services there so that he does not have to watch his back 24-7. He cannot move against the Islamists until he can totally rely on the ability to smash them should push really come to shove.

Under the circumstances I think he is doing the best he can , trying to marginalise the loons among the population, and trying to stay alive. Not a job I would want.

We've seen a lot of action from Pakistan recently. If I'm not mistaken, Bush was talking to some leader from India about nukes the other day. Maybe Pakistan took that as a not-so-subtle hint to get its butt in gear and start cleaning out the terrorists.

The most problematic area of Pakistan are effectively beyond government control and the border with Afghanistan very porous. On top of this the ISI, Pakistan primary intelligence agency, includes a lot of people who'd happily install Osama Bin Laden as President of the country. Many in our own government strongly believe Bin Laden is already a comfortable resident of Pakistan.

So how can this be taken as anything other than lip service?

Has it occurred to anyone that the main effect of this move will be to close of the madrassas to foreign scrutiny?

If there's no foreigners in there, then who knows what's going on...the Pakistanis can then claim whatever the hell they like.

Regards, C

I believe in many ways, Pakistan is a bigger threat to western civilization than all other Islamic nations except perhap Saudi Arabia. Both of these countries are actively pursuing programs to spread Islam in this country and elsewhere. Both harbor terrorists and promote them. Both countries are expert in placating both Islamic and western sides. Pakistan is particularly dangerous because they have nuclear bomb capability which they have exported in part to other nations (Iran, possibly North Korea). With friends like Pakistan, who needs other enemies.

Elric the Blade says he's no longer sure that Trump will have the right to appeal in the NY fraud case:
Yesterday, I thought that Trump had an appeal as of right on the fraud liability, based upon news reports that cited the second opinion as declining to find in favor of liability. That would give Trump at least 2 dissenting judges for an appeal as of right.
But now, after seeing the actual decisions, I'm not so sure. Sorry, guys. I've never seen or heard of what the second opinion did. They dissented, but ... decided not to dissent? I'm not sure what the effect is in terms of whether Trump has a right to appeal. I doubt anyone does.
I think even if Trump doesn't have a right of appeal, the Court of Appeals (NY's highest court) will take the case. But ... it's a liberal court so who knows how they'll rule. I have the docket number so I can track what gets appealed to the Court of Appeals. If Trump wants to appeal, I think he might file an appeal as of right and a petition for permission to appeal. His lawyers know this case much better than I, but even they might know what the effect of all the opinions are.
I don't think they'll take the appeal. Judges are lazy and cowardly and will duck any hot potato case they can. These judges are also liberal hacks, and do not want to deliver Trump a full victory.

Lost Seventies Mystery Click: The Darkest Song Ever Recorded?
I think Professor of Rock (on YouTube) claimed this song was so upsetting that people used to pull over to the side of the road when it came on the radio. It's about a fatal plane crash, but obviously it suggests a fatal car crash too, which could wig out a driver.
It's like one of those nasty 70s anti-war body horror movies. Not for the squeamish. I'm not even going to post the lyrics because they're upsetting too.

I'm frankly surprised the title is 107 Days. I would have thought it would be:

Days Are Important: The Amount of Days Was a Number and That Number Was 100 Plus 7 Which is 107. 107. One Hundred and Seven. It's a Memoir and Memoirs are About Remembering Things Because Remembering Things is Good. Not Bad. Good. Memoir. A Memoir. Like a Reservoir But With Memory. We Have to Let it Flow. We Have to Let It Flow Into the Reservoir of Our Mind and Our Heart. Our Heart Which is the Beating Heart of Not Just Our Blood, But Our Progress. And Our People. And Democracy. The End.
