Kill A Human, Save A Rat

I don't think I'd have a problem with this formulation from, say, a rat. But when a human urges this particular tradeoff of human lives for rat lives, I have to object:

Jerry Vlasak, spokesman for the Animal Liberation Front, told the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works that killing medical researchers was "morally justified" to save laboratory animals.

He made his comments while defending a similar statement, made to the news media last year: "I don't think you'd have to kill – assassinate – too many vivisectors before you would see a marked decrease in the amount of vivisection going on. And I think for five lives, 10 lives, 15 human lives, we could save a million, 2 million, 10 million non-human lives."

Upside: James Inhofe promises greater emphasis on prosecuting these anti-human thugs.

He sounds like a real fanatic he should be investigated him and his radical ALF bunch its time to do something about these domestic terrorist and its time to fanatics like JERRY VLASSECK to get investigated and put PETA on that list as well i mean this radicals been banned from england

There are some audio links of Vlasak here:

I often wonder what these ALF/ELF animal-wackos think when they get sick, see a doctor and are treated, esp. when they're given medication....

Do they realize where and how the medication was developed and tested?

One of the labs I used to work in actually had this poster on the door (along with some others from that foundation).

And for the record, yes, I've sacrificed rats in the name of science)

Very strange.

I once knew some ALF types. They were also anarchists. If they lived in France, they'd be rioting right now. For them, it's all about fighting the man. In other words, it's all about fighting. It's about the self-righteous certainty of being on the right side of history.

On the other side, there's no reason a sane person can't care about cruelty to animals. I don't mind sacrificing some rats to cure cancer. But do we really need to dump a bunch of the latest shampoo brand into some poor rabbit's eyes? I try to only buy "cruelty free" personal products. There's nothing anti-human or anti-science about that, and I'd urge others to consider doing the same.

Sheer stupidity. Enough said.

Posted by: Spurringirl on November 6, 2005 10:49 PM

An old roommate of mine went off the ALF deep end, dropped out of school and shortly thereafter off the map. Right after the 'liberation' of lots of animals being experimented on, he up and vanished.

Before his disappearance, he wrote poetry for the local animal rights enthusiasts' magazine. About how he heard the screams and felt the pain and etc. etc. etc.

nice enough guy, but very creepy/intense in a David Byrne sort of way.

Justice: They didn't really steal the monkey. It was just a diversion so we could steal these.

[showing a bag of stolen diamonds]

Justice: And they're not the leaders of the C.L.I.T. The C.L.I.T is not real.

Whillenholly: No the clit is real. Its the female orgasm that's the myth.

Could we argue that killing Vlasak is justified in order to save human lives?

Posted by: El Ricko on November 7, 2005 08:54 AM

The nazis were big time animal lovers who used the mentaly handcapped, jews and POWs to conduct nasty experiments on would these jerks in that poster as well as mr vlassak prefer we do that would he be the first to volenteer?

Posted by: spurwing plover on November 7, 2005 09:56 AM

The nazis were big time animal lovers

Somehow I doubt that.

Posted by: SJKevin on November 7, 2005 11:55 AM

Actually SJKevin, the NSDAP Leadership were indeed disproportionately animal lovers and anti-vivisectionists. There's a quote of Himmler (I believe in a book by John Toland) telling his barber that after the war, he must pass a law to outlaw cruelty to animals.

Tucker Carlson claims that it's weird that Ted Cruz is interested in the massacre of Christians by Nigerian Muslims, because he has "no track record of being interested in Christians," then blows off the massacre of Christians by Nigerian Muslims, saying it might or might not be a real concern
Tucker Carlson enjoys using the left-wing tactic of "Tactical Ignorance" to avoid taking positions on topics. Is Hamas really a terrorist organization? Tucker can't say. He hasn't looked into it enough, but "it seems like a political organization to me." Are Muslims slaughtering Christians in Nigeria? Again, Tucker just doesn't know. He hasn't examined the evidence yet. He knows every Palestinian Christian who said he was blocked from visiting holy sites in Bethlehem, but he just hasn't had the time to look into the mass slaughter of Christians in Nigeria that has been going on since (checks watch) 2009. He doesn't know, so he can't offer an opinion. Wouldn't be prudent, you know? Don't rush him! He'll sift through the evidence at some point in the future and render an opinion sometime around 2044.
Of course, if you need an opinion on Jewish Perfidy, he has all the facts at his fingertips and can give you a fully informed opinion pronto. Say, have you ever heard of the USS Liberty incident...?
You'd think that the main issue for Tucker Carlson, who pretends to be so deeply concerned about Palestinian Christians being bullied by Jews in Israel (supposedly), would be the massacre of 185,000 Christians in Nigeria itself. But no, his main problem is that Ted Cruz is talking about it, "who has no track record of being interested in Christians at all." And then he just shrugs as to whether this is even a real issue or not.
Whatever we do we must never "divide the right," huh?
Tucker is attacking Ted Cruz for bringing the issue up because he's acting as an apologist for Jihadism, and he can't cleanly admit that Jihadists are killing any Christians, anywhere. There is no daylight between him and CAIR at this point.
One might conclude that Tucker Carlson himself isn't interested in the plight of Christians -- except as they can be used as a cudgel to attack Jews.
Just gonna ask an Interesting Question myself -- why is it that Tucker Carlson's arguments all track with those shit out by Qatarian propaganda agents and the far left? That if Jews crush an ant underfoot it is worldwide news, but when Muslims slaughter Christians it elicits not even a vigorous shrug?
Garth Merenghi is interviewed by the only man who can fathom his ineffable brilliance -- Garth Merenghi
From the comments:
I once glimpsed Garth in the penumbra betwixt my wake and sleep. He was in my dream, standing afar, not looking my way, nor did he acknowledge me. But I felt seen. And that's when I knew I was a traveler on the right path. I'm glad he's still with us.

Now that's some Merenghian prose.
Garth Merenghi on the writer's craft

Greetings, Traveler. If you still have not experienced Garth Merenghi -- Author, Dream-weaver, Visionary, plus Actor -- the six episodes of his Darkplace are still available on YouTube and supposedly upscaled to HD. (Viewing it now, it doesn't appeared upscaled for shit.)
I think the second episode, "Hell Hath Fury," is the best by a good margin. Try to at least watch through to that one. It's Mereghi's incisive but nuanced take on sexism.
