"It's Only A Few Provinces," French Authorities SayThis is too much, stop!" sobbed a woman in Evreux, a normally quiet town in rural Normandy where a shopping mall, 50 vehicles, a post office and two schools were destroyed. I seem to remember military folks and the US Government urging the media to have some sense of proportion with regard to the unrest in Iraq. "It's only four provinces," the military said. The media scoffed. Somehow I think that they'll be more willing to downplay the violence in France. posted by Ace at 07:48 PM
CommentsNot to mention 1 police station rammed by a burning car, and 2 Churches lit on fire. Gloating about this is not cool, but come on, I remember how sanctimonious the French were when the L.A. riots went on in L.A.- Mitterand blamed it on the Reagan government and capitalism. He claimed that such a thing could never happen in an egalitarian country like France. The French socialists have been scoffing and chorteling at the warnings issued by the Roman Pontiff on the perils of Birth Control and Abortion- they all had a great laugh. But now that the muslims are poised to outnumber the secularists within 50 years, nobody should be laughing now. France as we know it could be dead, and this is the beginning of the takeover. On the other hand, a burning car from a traffic accident (or just a car that caught on fire all by itself) gets notable news coverage in most local markets in the US, and the sort of unrest we're seeing in France would get front-page coverage... Posted by: cirby on November 6, 2005 08:10 PM
Gloating about this is not cool Are you sure? Is there an official ruling on this? So far they are playing true to form and can't muster even the fundamental patriotic spine to defend themselves. The EU wienies in Brussels must be pleased. Barred from entering parts of their own city, but pleased all the same. Posted by: VRWC Agent on November 6, 2005 08:42 PM
FWIW - the Watts riots in 65' lasted about 10 days. The French are pushing the envelope now. Watts had a body count ~35 though, so they've got some catching up to do on that front. Posted by: Purple Avenger on November 6, 2005 08:48 PM
Purp - Maybe, but doesn't that just represent a failure of the French to put down the riots? Posted by: holdfast on November 6, 2005 09:08 PM
If you can read French, check out this editorial from Le Monde: http://www.lemonde.fr/web/article/0,1-0@2-3232,36-706898,0.html Basically it says that the French political leadership is to blame for the rioting, that no one did anything to give these youths a chance at a good life, blah blah blah. The editors are deeply concerned about the rise of an extreme right politician to become President in response to the youth demonstrations. Interestingly the editorial begins with a quote from a New York Times editorial "underlining 'the incapacity of France to integrate its immigrants." Now the NYT has gone nuts: They are multiculturalists; it has never been the goal of multiculturalism to integrate anyone into the society. Society is to conform to invading cultures. Why is the NYT suddenly concerned about integration? But back to Le Monde: This editorial could have been written about the looting in New Orleans. Now we see, again sad to say, the results of treating "scum" like mildly sick people. They run amok causing mayhem and damage. That Le Monde can't even see beyond depressing. No, we shouldn't gloat. Maybe, when France falls into chaos and civil war, we should call on the Special Forces to train and lead the few sane Frenchmen left that don't want Muslims running their country like the New Caliphate. After all, better to fight the terrorists over there than over here. Posted by: EricTheRed21 on November 6, 2005 09:29 PM
Very interesting, Eric, and yet, predictable. Usually one can find an almost identical articles in the LeMonde and Guardian rags. Do they use the word "demostrations" rather than riot? What I find most interesting, from what you report, is that the left-wing spin machine of LeMonde is not so much concern for the "youths of African heritage" but the concern that the riots will shift the political balance toward the Right. Anyway, it's good to see that LeMonde is an equal opportunity basher -- they have no problem blaming their own government for everything. Posted by: Bart on November 6, 2005 09:45 PM
Dear France, Perhaps this is an analogy you will be able to understand. When you say that a cigarette is burning, you only mean that one end of it is actually burning. Perhaps you should reconsider this headline. Might I suggest: "France Is Not Yet Entirely Engulfed In Flames?" Or perhaps "France Only Slightly More Flaming Than Usual." That second one could be accompanied by a picture of a limp wrist - people love visual aids. Posted by: nameless coward on November 6, 2005 11:01 PM
Bart, Well, Le Monde is bascially the NYTimes in France. The current government is a center-right coalition so they have no problems blaming the government in this case. In this editorial though the blame does appear to go through to previous ones as well. "Demonstration" is my (sarcastic) word, but the word used by the editors is "explosion." No mention of Islam, sheikhs, Arab, etc. Just "ethnic ghettoes." Posted by: EricTheRed21 on November 6, 2005 11:05 PM
Its a variation of reportage by Jedi mind trick. "There's no violence in France. These aren't really Muslim youths. The situation is well in hand." Move along. Nothing to see here. Posted by: JackStraw on November 7, 2005 07:21 AM

Oh no! Hamas' de facto press agent at the UN complains that she can't use her credit cards or rent a card now that she's been sanctioned as a terrorist operative
Why does this keep happening to members of the "political organization" (per Tucker Carlson) of Hamas?!?!
Tucker Carlson claims that it's weird that Ted Cruz is interested in the massacre of Christians by Nigerian Muslims, because he has "no track record of being interested in Christians," then blows off the massacre of Christians by Nigerian Muslims, saying it might or might not be a real concern
Tucker Carlson enjoys using the left-wing tactic of "Tactical Ignorance" to avoid taking positions on topics. Is Hamas really a terrorist organization? Tucker can't say. He hasn't looked into it enough, but "it seems like a political organization to me." Are Muslims slaughtering Christians in Nigeria? Again, Tucker just doesn't know. He hasn't examined the evidence yet. He knows every Palestinian Christian who said he was blocked from visiting holy sites in Bethlehem, but he just hasn't had the time to look into the mass slaughter of Christians in Nigeria that has been going on since (checks watch) 2009. He doesn't know, so he can't offer an opinion. Wouldn't be prudent, you know? Don't rush him! He'll sift through the evidence at some point in the future and render an opinion sometime around 2044. Of course, if you need an opinion on Jewish Perfidy, he has all the facts at his fingertips and can give you a fully informed opinion pronto. Say, have you ever heard of the USS Liberty incident...? You'd think that the main issue for Tucker Carlson, who pretends to be so deeply concerned about Palestinian Christians being bullied by Jews in Israel (supposedly), would be the massacre of 185,000 Christians in Nigeria itself. But no, his main problem is that Ted Cruz is talking about it, "who has no track record of being interested in Christians at all." And then he just shrugs as to whether this is even a real issue or not. Whatever we do we must never "divide the right," huh? Tucker is attacking Ted Cruz for bringing the issue up because he's acting as an apologist for Jihadism, and he can't cleanly admit that Jihadists are killing any Christians, anywhere. There is no daylight between him and CAIR at this point. One might conclude that Tucker Carlson himself isn't interested in the plight of Christians -- except as they can be used as a cudgel to attack Jews. Just gonna ask an Interesting Question myself -- why is it that Tucker Carlson's arguments all track with those shit out by Qatarian propaganda agents and the far left? That if Jews crush an ant underfoot it is worldwide news, but when Muslims slaughter Christians it elicits not even a vigorous shrug?
Garth Merenghi is interviewed by the only man who can fathom his ineffable brilliance -- Garth Merenghi
From the comments: I once glimpsed Garth in the penumbra betwixt my wake and sleep. He was in my dream, standing afar, not looking my way, nor did he acknowledge me. But I felt seen. And that's when I knew I was a traveler on the right path. I'm glad he's still with us. Now that's some Merenghian prose. Garth Merenghi on the writer's craft Greetings, Traveler. If you still have not experienced Garth Merenghi -- Author, Dream-weaver, Visionary, plus Actor -- the six episodes of his Darkplace are still available on YouTube and supposedly upscaled to HD. (Viewing it now, it doesn't appeared upscaled for shit.) I think the second episode, "Hell Hath Fury," is the best by a good margin. Try to at least watch through to that one. It's Mereghi's incisive but nuanced take on sexism.
Update on Scott Adams:
Scott Adams had approval for this cancer drug but they hadn't scheduled him to get it. He was taking a turn for the worse. Trump had told him to call if he needed anything, so he did. Talked to Don Jr (who is in Africa) , then RFK Jr, then Dr Oz. Someone talked to Kaiser and he was scheduled. Shouldn't have needed it but he did and he says it saved his life.
