Shock: Maureen Dowd Whines It's A Man's (Opinionated) World

Lorie Byrd from PoliPundit tips to a Michelle Malkin rip on Dowd.

Check out Maureen's eternal whine:

In 1996, after six months on the job, I went to Howell Raines, the editorial page editor, to try to get out of the column. I was a bundle of frayed nerves. I felt as though I were in a "Godfather" movie, shooting and getting shot at. Men enjoy verbal dueling. As a woman, I told Howell, I wanted to be liked - not attacked. He said I could go back to The Metro Section; I decided to give it another try.

You know, I try to mix my references up a bit. I even reference stuff I don't know much about. I can't make everything a Paul Anka, D&D, or Whitensnake reference, after all.

This is Maureen Dowd's 4,897th likening of something she doesn't like to The Godfather and/or The Sopranos (or both). And yes, I've been counting (scan down for the parody "Artificial Insouciance."

Why aren't there more female opinion columnists?

Because the current "Alpha Chick" of the set is trite, vapid, and repetitive to the point of tediousness. She hasn't had anything to say for about, oh, going on seven years now.

This moron is keeping you down, ladies.

It would be much the same were Oliver Willis taken to be an exemplar of male bloggers.

Distaff Update: As Cathy Seipp notes, Susan Estrich ain't doin' female writers no favors, neither.

"It would be much the same were Oliver Willis taken to be an exemplar of male bloggers."

Fortunately O-Chubs mangina prevents him from being considered with male bloggers.

And for the Whitesnake references, we thank you Ace.

Somewhat OT, but the prescient Naomi Klein ain't exactly ready to fill Dowd's void either. (I apologize (amid shudders) for my wording there.)

When I think of female op-ed writers, I think Ann Coulter, not Dowd. Understandable, since I don't hate the fact that I was born a woman.

BTW, when exactly was Susan Estrich considered a female? She sure ain't one now.

Later,
bbeck

Perhaps the single best example of constructive criticism offered to a female op-ed writer.

other than Ace's of course.

Another "so funny because it's true."

when exactly was Susan Estrich considered a female?

Back when she was Harvey Fierstein.

Estrich and Dowd bring to mind a zinger my acquaintance Geoff wrote in an online pissing match with a similarly worked-up feminista a few years back:

"If youse broads would apply your energy toward things that really mattered instead of being petty and mean-spirited about trivial minutiae . . . more men would take your concerns seriously. As it stands, though, you may as well grab the Windex and get to polishing the Glass Ceiling, 'cause we won't be giving you a break anytime soon."

MoDo's got that Queen Bee jr. high bitchy thingy going. No one watching those snotty jr high clique-leaders wants anything to do with them or the boot-licking followers. No wonder there's a shortage of female op-ed writers if you have to put up with the jr. high crap. (Susan Estrich is sort of the Carol Channing 70-year-old playing a teenage MoDo in a musical crapola spas queen. That's even creepier.)

It starts to look like the MoDo style feminist failed to leave jr. high, even if they graduated.

Maureen Dowd---the alpha chick of columnists? Please. She doesn't even make omega.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
