Claim: Clinton Sought Bin Ladin Beheading

Do I believe it? Maybe; I don't know.

But even if it's true, it demonstrates Clinton's unwillingness to get his own hands dirty... at the expense of compromising American security. He turned down an offer of extradition to the US, citing the "fact" that bin Ladin had committed no crimes against the US. So, instead, he tried to get the Saudis to take him and behead him (or so goes the story), but they balked.

And so he remained free.

Another point. Instapundit made this point over the weekend, I think, but I've made it before. The anti-war left bitches and moans about Bush's "renditions" of terrorist suspects to countries where they will likely be tortured, or at least be exposed to very harsh language.

And yet we know for a fact -- and have long known-- that Bill Clinton did the same thing.

And yet no wailing and gnashing of teeth then... was there?

I do have respect for principled anti-war voices. But I do not respect those who so obviously and clearly put partisan rooting interests ahead of national security. It cannot be the case that Bush's renditions are cause for leftist outrage whereas Clinton's renditions are cited by the same leftists as proof that Clinton was "really trying to deal harshly with terrorists."

I call bullshit.

That's the exact same ending to Tom Clancy's Sum of All Fears (the book, not the film/abortion).

They capture the Islamic terrorists responsible for nuking Denver, but since Colorado didn't have the death penalty (!!) or something like that, they extradite the terrorists to Saudi Arabia for a beheading.

Even money Sandy Berger got the idea from a book on tape, perhaps while listening to it at the National Archives.

Cheers,
Dave at Garfield Ridge

Way to repeat that age-old adage of, "It must be Clinton's fault."

Economy in the shitter? It was Clinton's fault! He was getting blowjobs!

Islamic fundamentalist attacks the country? It was Clinton's fault! Did I mention that he was getting blown?

Education standards are going down? It was Clinton's fault! Remember those blowjobs?

Fargus,

Since you're here, please explain how Clinton's renditions of terrorists to SA or Syria were "just a tough way to deal with a serious threat," but Bush's continuation of the selfsame policy constitutes an egregious violation of human rights.

Bullshit! Clinton is just trying to hide his cowardice, his total incompetance and his crimes! As a treacherous coward (in other words a Liberal) he was afraid of Bin Laden because we'd foiled a plot by Osama to kill Clinton, and he knew that Saddam had tried to kill Bush '41. Bill Clinton let Bin Laden hit us five times (and did nothing even when Sudan offered him to us three times!) except to make us look foolish and impotent by depleting our supply of our cruise missles into empty buildings. When Bill pulled us out of Mogdishu (after he botched a rescue mission by refusing to allow the support they needed) Osama said in 1998 that he was was astonished at our weakness and encouraged to attack us again and again. The record is clear enough. To paraphrase Ann Coulter: it' all Clinton's fault!

One of the network talking heads, I think it was Jennings, was talking about this "outsourcing" one night (he actually called it outsourcing). He said something like, "...started and used by Bush I, remained in effect under Clinton, and used again by Bush II." As if Clinton was too noble to use it or something. I think more people than Monica want to fellate Bill Clinton.

Ace, I don't think Fargus is "here" at all.

Sorry, I was at work before, and I left shortly after posting. But I thank y'all for questioning my mental acuity almost immediately.

To tell you the truth, I don't know all that much about the extraordinary rendition policy under either Clinton or Bush. I'm not really qualified to speak about that point, so I won't try.

My main point here, though, is that I dislike the type of rhetoric where instead of dealing with an issue that's going on right now, you'll throw out something only tangentially related, like Clinton's policies, and obscure the whole thing with talk of a bias, stuff like that. Like I said, Clinton may have been doing the same thing. I don't know, and I'm not qualified to talk about it (though I'd like to read some about it). But the issue that's coming up is the sanctioning of torture, either directly or by way of extraordinary rendition, and that issue gets lost when partisanship steps up to the fore.

And I've read just as many discreditings of the "Clinton was offered Bin Laden on a silver platter" story as I've heard it asserted that it's true. For what it's worth (and I'm sorry I don't have a link to post right now.....I'll look).

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
