Bush to Stump In New Jersey

It's a race there after all:

Campaigning in South Jersey gives Bush what his aides call a "double hit" - rallying the Republican faithful there and getting free television exposure in adjacent Pennsylvania, considered one of the swing states that could decide the election.

Kerry allies in New Jersey professed to be unconcerned about the late spike of state activity in the White House's favor. They said Bush and Cheney were trying to bluff Kerry into making what they said would be an unnecessary trip to the state and possibly spending campaign money there.

Bluff? I don't know. Latest Quinnippiac poll has Kerry up 49-46. Not exactly stomping Bush.

Daggummit Karl, beating me to it.

We should probably hat tip Geraghty over at KerrySpot for this 411 as well. Don't know who got it first.

A Oct 9th survey in France had 72% preferring Kerry, oh by the way, shock of shocks.

Some interesting "close" states haven't been polled in a while. Missouri, Maine, New Mexico, Nevada. Hawaii hasn't been polled since last Sept 11, when Kerry had a 10 point, but shrinking, lead.

Lot of bad economic news coming in for Dubya, though, with their worst impact on the Midwest states that are close in this election. Huge deficit, record trade imbalances for September, poor job creation, consumer confidence at it's lowest level in 18 months.

Mass layoffs announced in Michigan, stock market down, oil prices soaring as speculators ratchet prices up.

It would be nice if he released some oil from the strategic Petroleum Reserve to knock the speculators profit down - speculation margins now are about 40 cents on each gallon of gas/fuel oil. And, if we take Fallujah and finally kill the Islamoids there that have killed over a hundred Americans in forays out of their sanctuary. Rumors 18 US soldiers arrested for refusing orders to go on a road near Fallujah where IEDs have killed dozens of soldiers.

New Jersey being close is good news in the midst of some bad economic news.

I was campaigning for Bush today in NJ. This is the first time I have ever campaigned for anyone.. Anyway, going door to door in a democrat stronghold - I found the majority of people planned to vote for Bush-Cheney. It’s a small sample I know, but put it together with Bush tied with Kerry in the polls and I think NJ may just be found in Bush’s column on Novv.2.

Good Job Pat! Its amazing the way the Dems take New Jersey for granted.

This isn't Christmas Eve fare, and I thought about waiting until the 26th to post it, but supposedly an amateur detective has solved the Zodiac killer mystery. And the horrific Black Dahlia killing. He says it's the same person! I always thought of them as very far apart in time but I think Black Dahlia was mid-fifties (nope, 1947) mid and the Zodiac murders began in 1968 so it's possible it's the same killer.

The killer, if it's the same man, would have been in his 20s when he killed the Black Dahlia and his 40s when he did the Zodiac murders. Possible.

A little caveat: I saw someone snark on Reddit, "The Zodiac case gets solved more often than Wordle." There are a ton of coincidences here, supposedly, like a Zodiac cipher being solved by the name "Elizabeth." Elizabeth Short was the name of the so-called Black Dahlia.

If you don't know about the Black Dahlia, don't look it up. Just accept that it's grisly on the level of Jack the Ripper.

Yes, the named suspect resembles the police sketch of Zodiac.

Here's a podcast with the amateur sleuth who claims he cracked the Zodiac.
