How Is This Even a Question? Texas Establishment RINOs Debate Whether They Will Support Ken Paxton Over James "Jesus Has Six Gender" Talarico

"Lousy loser" John Cornyn refuses to campaign with Ken Paxton.

He's a real conservative you guys, he really wants to beat the Democrats.

Sen. John Cornyn slammed Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton as a "lazy" and "poor campaigner" Friday as he explained why he won't help the Republican Senate nominee in his race against Democrat James Talarico.

Cornyn, who lost to Paxton in the bitter Texas GOP Senate primary runoff election earlier this summer, explained in an interview with the Texas Tribune that while he wants to see Republicans hold their majority in the upper chamber after the midterms, he isn't going to fundraise for Paxton because he hasn't made a compelling case to Lone Star State voters.

"Paxton's a poor campaigner," Cornyn told the outlet. "He's lazy and doesn't raise money. And he basically is not offering a very compelling case for his election.

"He's making this harder than it needs to be."

...

"This is unfortunately shaping up to be a close and I hope not disastrous election," Cornyn said. "But it ain't looking good right now."

Byron York: What is the GOPe doing?

AS TALARICO GOES FROM BAD TO WORSE, GOP DEBATES SUPPORT FOR PAXTON. There's been a lot of commentary lately about the faults of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, the Republican candidate for Senate. There are many such faults, and the impeached and scandal-ridden Paxton is widely recognized among GOP strategists as a poor candidate.

But take a moment to remember the utter terribleness of Paxton's opponent, Democratic nominee James Talarico. You've heard his greatest hits. His belief that there are six genders. That God is nonbinary. His "non-meat" campaign. His claim to be "a Christian who hates Christianity." And more.

Now, there's something else to consider. It comes from September 2020, when Talarico was running for the Texas legislature and took part in a Zoom forum run by the Sierra Club. He was asked what he would do to "fight for climate justice" for "communities of color" that "receive the most harm from the impacts of climate change."

"I'm so thankful that you asked this question, and also thankful that young activists have really drawn the link between climate change and white supremacy and capitalism in our country," Talarico answered. "And I think only understanding the ways that all three of those oppressive systems work together are we going to be able to begin the process of dismantling them."

...

Meanwhile, some Republican and conservative commentators have spent a good bit of time dumping on Paxton. National Review published a piece headlined, "Everyone is Edging Away from Ken Paxton," which said a "horrid smell" was "filling the room" in Texas -- the "stench of potential electoral doom" brought about by the Paxton campaign.

Conservative radio host Erick Erickson is on an anti-Paxton crusade, writing, "The only thing for which Paxton has ever shown prodigious energy is philandery and possibly corruption. He is a lazy candidate in a heated race, and laziness is not a flaw you can fundraise your way around."

Oh, he's repeating the lines from the GOPe op. What a surprise from this brain surgeon.

...

[Conservative radio host Steve] Deace argued that "uniparty" Republicans are the ones bashing Paxton right now, and they would be perfectly happy for him to lose and Talarico to win. (Deace called Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), defeated by Paxton in the GOP primary, a "uniparty stooge.") If true conservatives don't vote for Paxton, Deace said, they would give the "uniparty" Republicans "exactly what they want" while at the same time would "permit Democrats to inflict absolutely all their demoniac madness upon you without reservation." The bottom line, Deace argued, is that true conservatives should vote for Paxton to stop Democratic awfulness.

That was the message Cruz sent in his Tuesday appearance with Fox News's Laura Ingraham. "Some of the Republicans that are throwing rocks at Ken Paxton, my message to them is: Enough! Stop your b****ing," Cruz said. Citing previous years in which centrist Republicans urged conservative voters to support centrist nominees, Cruz continued, "My answer to everyone whining: Shut up and support the nominee, and don't hand Texas over to a communist lunatic."

No. There are more important issues, like Erick Erickson's capacity for grifting.

This was written the day of the Dobbs decision. One can understand opposing Dobbs. One can understand wanting to overturn it. But advocating for what would, in effect, be a Federal Abortion Service, staffed by a Federal Abortion Corps, seems...out there. But classic Talarico.

I'm sure his communist staff will tell you, if you ask for comment, that this "cringey language" "misses the mark" and that he believes in capitalism and Jesus.

So I wouldn't bother asking his communist staff.

The NRSC and GOP telling Texas voters that they are stupid for choosing Paxton over Cornyn (we like our gun rights - go figure) and withholding any funding they would have normally put into the race is the establishment trying to rule over the plebes. Cornyn wasn't a "safe choice" for our rights. So if the rest of the nation wants to turn Texas blue then good luck ever getting another republican majority or president. Nice Texas is gone, so is the nation.

Thanks coastal elites!

Here's Steve Deace's take:

Steve Deace @SteveDeaceShow

Here's some tough love. But it's why I make the better than average bucks.

Ken Paxton is one of the finest public servants in this country. His work as Texas AG would rank among the most impactful of any statewide elected official in this nation (DeSantis is in his own GOAT tier). He would be a tremendous upgrade at Senator not just for Texas, but the country. But he's also made a mess of his personal life, and the residual impact of that is costing him some support (including financially). So, again, anyone that tells you sexual ethics are strictly a private matter is dead wrong. An entire state/country may suffer consequences. Paxton's personal failing is giving people an objection they otherwise wouldn't have to an exemplary AG. The Biblical model always requires us to first accept responsibility for our own actions, and the role we played in our own situation.

However, given how little we know much of Washington DC's uniparty cares about marriage, family, and sexual ethics that alone doesn't come close to explain him (and thus the country) being hung out to dry in this crucial Texas Senate race. There's no moral high ground within the uniparty. Only vested interests. And uniparty Republicans would much prefer to be in the minority. Because in that case they can raise all kinds of money to ensure their positions off how bad the Democrats are, with no expectations to do anything about it.

Thus, you will not be punishing these Republicans by staying home but just yourself. You will be giving them exactly what they want, prestige with no responsibility, while you will permit Democrats to inflict absolutely all their demoniac madness upon you without reservation. Nothing new is coming. There is no alternative to the GOP possible within any time frame what's left of our way of life would survive. You won't teach anyone any lessons. Most of these Republicans would rather lose to Democrats than lose control of the party to you, anyway.

And yes, this is a poopy position to be in. But it's the position we are in generationally, and our job is to do the best we can with the times that we have. The best we can do is slow down as much of this Democrat madness as possible, while also keeping Republicans in power to expose themselves in the hopes that creates more primaries where a Paxton can beat an exposed uniparty stooge like Cornyn.

Again, not a great spot. But it is the spot. Short of revival, it's all we have left. And it's still by far the best country in the world. So suck it up and occupy until He comes. This is the best we can do.

Fat shabby one-pair-o'-pants grifter Jonah Goldberg, who swiped the research for "his" book Liberal Fascism from writers at the Claremont Institute, accuses Steve Deace of being paid to say this.

Jonah Goldberg @JonahDispatch

This is the kind of opinion that makes me assume someone is being compensated to offer it. Not saying that's the case. But I find it difficult to understand how a person could come by it honestly.

Who's signing your checks, Jonah? I know it's not Republicans.

Is it Pierre Omidyar?

Here's what it's about -- here's all it's ever been about.

The corporate GOPe uniparty traitors, represented by their paid mouthpieces at CATO, want open borders and will accept nothing less.

This guy's argument: Illegal immigration only exists because you made illegal immigration illegal.

And murder only exists because we criminalized killing someone.

Brilliant.

Meanwhile:

What was Mohammad? Was he gay? Are you unsure about that?
