What a Shock: "Texans for Truth" Violating Campaign Finance Laws

Ron just blows my mind with the thought that liberals like passing lots and lots of campaign rules to restrict their opponents, while flagrantly violating those same laws and hoping the LLM will, as usual, not make a big deal about it:

WASHINGTON - A group of watchdog organizations charged Friday that Texans for Truth, whose TV ads question President Bush's service in the Air National Guard during the Vietnam War, has violated campaign fund-raising laws.

The Washington-based watchdog organizations, Democracy 21, the Campaign Legal Center and the Center for Responsive Politics, made the allegation in a complaint to the Federal Election Commission.

The complaint says Texans for Truth is accepting contributions and running advertisements to influence the presidential race and therefore comes under campaign finance limits, which cap individual contributions at $2,000 from an individual and $5,000 from a political committee.

Texans for Truth has reported a $100,000 contribution from Daniel O'Keefe, a California television producer.

So, when are you going to post an apology to Josh Marshall?

Posted by: ahem on September 26, 2004 02:04 PM

influencing a Presidential election...

Don't get me wrong, cause I like what the SBVT guys did, but couldn't you make the same argument with them?

A bit off topic but wanted to call attention to this one -

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=11&u=/ap/20040926/ap_on_en_tv/tv_cbs_fallout

An AP Story on the Rathergate fallout - at the bottom, under "On the net" - links to CBSnews.com and RATHERGATE.com.

How did that slip through?

Mr. ahem, you do realize that the alternative story makes Marshall and CBS sound even worse, right?

Unless left wing pundits collaborating with producers on stories is normal that is =p. Ace will probably post a correction sooner or later but Marshall should probably thank Ace for trying to cover up his "story" rather than Ace issue an apology.

What really pisses me off is that the FEC isn't going to do a damn thing until after the election. By then who'll care? The FEC is saying basically its open season. The irony here is that I agree with the principle but they put a law on the books.
This is just another symptom of the lack of accountability in public life. Jane Fonda got away with eason. Jesse Jackson violates the Logan Act at will. Al Sharpton commits massive fraud and becomes a respected part of the establishment. Kerry admits to either carrying out War Crimes, and or not reporting them to people in authority or was lying to congress under oath. Then while still an officer goes to Paris and meets with the enemy on a "fact finding" trip. I'm not even going to discuss the Clintons.
If Rather gets the ax, it be the first step on the long road to restoring accountability in our society.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
