WarPorn: Future Combat System Demo Trailer

A coming attractions for military hardware, shot like a movie. Mostly command and control type stuff, with lots of wired soldiers and coordination from a guys in a van, but some aerial and ground spybots too.

Thanks to Craig, via SondraK.

Starship Troopers, anyone?

Posted by: scarshapedstar on January 17, 2006 08:30 PM

And how!

Posted by: Alpha Sierra Whiskey on January 17, 2006 08:31 PM

Let's nuke 'em from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.

Posted by: Hicks on January 17, 2006 08:33 PM

But they're still carrying M-4s.

Posted by: max on January 17, 2006 08:34 PM

Yeah, there's a lot of C&C stuff, but the cool parts are watching the bogeys get the SHIT blown out of them. Watch the whole thing.

Posted by: CraigC on January 17, 2006 08:40 PM

That shit is Jack Bauer hot.

Fan-freaking-tastic.

Posted by: spurringirl on January 17, 2006 10:00 PM

Wow, that's good marketing.

Too bad most of it's gonna go the way of the Dodo-- too expensive to develop, too complex to integrate, and a big fat target for everyone from the Pentagon to Congress eager to find money to pay for everything else.

Still, dynamite on paper.

Cheers,
Dave at Garfield Ridge

Leave it to Dave to be the turd in the punch bowl.

Dave

I recognized 5 items that are currently being used in Iraq:
1. airborne spy robots
2. land spy robots used to check out buildings
3. Guided smart bomb
4. Guided smart artillery
5. Satellite identification of enemy vehicle

Lock Pashers on target and await my command

Posted by: spurwing plover on January 17, 2006 11:25 PM

That was freakin sweet.

Posted by: fugazi on January 17, 2006 11:32 PM

Yep, guns, tanks and satellites, too, Jake.

It's the *integration* of the FCS that's the stumbling block. You've got over a dozen systems that have to work together, and effectively so, in order to multiply the combat power of your Unit of Action so as to be as successful in battle as current larger and heavier units. That's a tall order.

I don't complain to be pessimistic about the *concept* behind FCS-- unlike many, I'm sold that the ideas represented are fundamentally sound. It's just that I live in a world dealing with ridiculously complex systems acquisitions in the Beltway environment. Trying to keep something like the FCS development, with all its moving parts, together for the next decade is, well, impossible. A lot of it is going to give. I just hope it won't be all the best parts. . . (hey, I want Starship Troopers as much as the next guy!)

Cheers,
Dave at Garfield Ridge

Yeah, well, since we're already here in the 21st centruy and it looks like they reneged on the flyin' f'n jet cars they promised us, I say they owe us the powered armor suits from Starship Troopers.

That's some full-on Skynet shit going on there.

After watching that video, I'm feeling a little....ummm....flushed shal we say.

I do have to agree with Dave. The integration of all the components is the biggest stumbling block to any of this. Unfortunately, because of procurements rules, there are too many fingers in any one pie. A system as complex as this would have a gazillion people at a bazillion contractors involved. To often, a change in one causes a change in another.

In the video, they showed the command and control group having instant access to the exact position of each soldier on a display. The Skunkworks at Fort Lewis was working on this exact same thing over 20 years ago. They had some freedoms that current R&D people don't have and they had trouble getting just that one element to work. Sure, technology has changed in that time period, but there are still humans involved and that's the biggest stumbling block.

In re: FCS

Just FYI, but right now FCS is having some funding problems on the Hill. You will see some elements of this deployed, but as Dave says, getting the whole synergistic thing together is going to be rough, although I'm not quite as pessimistic as Dave.

Tomorrow is March 25th, "Tolkien Reading Day," because March 25th is the day when the Ring is destroyed in the book. I think I'm going to start the Hobbit tomorrow and read all four books this time.
The only bad part of the trilogy are the Frodo/Sam chapters in The Two Towers. They're repetitive, slow, and mostly about the weather and terrain. But most everything else is good. Weirdly, the Frodo-Sam chapters in Return of the King are exciting and action-packed and among the best in the trilogy. (Though the chapters with everyone else in Return of the King get pretty slow again. Mostly people talking about marching towards war, and then marching towards war.)

US decimation of Iran's ICBM forces is due to Space Force's instant detection of launches -- and the launchers' hiding places -- and rapid counter-attack via missiles
AI is doing a lot of the work in analyzing images to find the exact hiding place of the launchers. Counter-strikes are now coming in four hours after a launch, whereas previously it might have taken days for humans to go over the imagery and data.

Instead it is doing what we accuse the Left of, that is sexualizing young children. If that describes you, own it.

Reports: The A-10 Thunderbolt, better known as The Warthog, has been unleashed on Iran
It's a heavily armored (the pilot sits in a titanim bathtub) slow-and-low loitering plane with a massive minigun firing depleted uranium rounds. The capability it brings is the ability to just fly big circles over the country waiting for a target to present itself. This is a weapons platform for eliminating vehicles and personnel. Its first task might be strafing the seas, clearing out any remaining attack boats and minelayers.
Update: My ballpark estimate for a reasonable cost for a wildlife overpass (suitably padded to sate the thirst of Democrat grifters) was $15 million. Turns out, that was a good estimate. That's how much it cost Denver to build one.

Some people liked Candace Owens because she was a black woman who told hard truths about BLM and black criminality. But this was always a grift. She started out as a race hustler for a grift, then hustled race the other way to grift conservatives, and now she's back to being a race-hustler for the left again. Specifically, she is now claiming that people pointing out that she is legitimately low-IQ and can't pronounce half the words her AI-generated teleprompter script points out to her is racist and just Ben Shapiro's way of saying the n-word without quite saying it. You see, you can only say that black people are smart, and if you see a dumb one that doesn't know how to pronounce simple words while she poses as an investigatory journalist, you have to pretend she's actually smart or you're a racist. Weird, that doesn't sound very conservative, let alone "#Based," to me. To prove how much she hates racism, she then says that Ben Shapiro's Jew ancestors were masters of the slave trade.
