DeLay DemotedStepping down as majority leader. Embattled Rep. Tom DeLay decided Saturday to give up his post as House majority leader, clearing the way for new leadership elections among Republicans eager to shed the taint of scandal, two officials said. I still don't know how I feel about DeLay. In another age, I'd say all the complaints about him added up to a case of where there's smoke, there's fire. But as the Democrats and their liberal spirit squad in the media have been so hysterically shrill and partisan about everyfriggingthing for the past five years, that old rule doesn't apply anymore. He definitely doesn't seem to have been on-patrol for corruption, though. And perhaps he should step down even if that's all he's guilty of. Red State Endorses... Mike Pence. And gives some good reasons not to support the other contenders for the position. posted by Ace at 02:21 PM
CommentsThere is not an ounce of fat in the budget, who needs Pence? Posted by: Doug on January 7, 2006 02:52 PM
Yeah, that's it...the "liberals" are the reason Delay is being pushed out the door...you know, wild-ass liberals like Newt. Then again, if you've ever actually read about the jerk, you'd know he was nothing more than a corrupt asshole Posted by: Thomas on January 7, 2006 03:24 PM
Probably just as well - until the Dems and the MSM go after his replacement. Expect lots of pressure for the position to be given to someone who is less 'partisan', ie, someone the the Nancy Pelosi/Chris Matthews crowd approves of. Posted by: Ira on January 7, 2006 03:41 PM
If Pence wins, good. Otherwise, this is disasterous. Remember how these clowns bungled stuff last year... Posted by: someone on January 7, 2006 03:42 PM
Yes, Mike Pence! I could see a President Pence someday. Posted by: Karol on January 7, 2006 03:58 PM
Give me a break, Delay was hated because he was effective. Also, Democrats seem to hate people who got rich actually working (publishing hateBush books is the preferred method of wealth accumulation) instead of spending their time accumulating degrees. Posted by: joeindc44 on January 7, 2006 04:28 PM
Wow, the Contract on America is in full effect. Ace says the Democrats are trying too hard, and as punishment we need to... screw over the American people with politicians like Delay. I wish Bush would be so honest. Posted by: scarshapedstar on January 7, 2006 04:28 PM
Ace says the Democrats are trying too hard, and as punishment we need to... screw over the American people with politicians like Delay. Thought you said you were an engineering student, albeit at some southern university. I'd expect higher standards of rigor in your analysis - Ace said that the Democrats having been squawking so loudly that the entire controversy may have been fabricated. Posted by: geoff on January 7, 2006 04:40 PM
Delay is a TRUE prince; his detractors produce nothing but POINTLESS, tiresome inuendo and invective, without fact or evidence. Posted by: Layer Seven on January 7, 2006 04:43 PM
geoff, don't even bother. someone who stoops to a childish deliberate misreading isn't worth arguing with. that's bad faith right off the bat. Posted by: ace on January 7, 2006 04:59 PM
Hi Thomas! Posted by: rickinstl on January 7, 2006 05:12 PM
Tom DeLay was framed by the liberals and the MSM. Bob Ney is innocent of all charges, and deserves to hold onto his position as Chairman of the House Administration Committee. Even if he's indicted or even if he's convicted. Posted by: Geek, Esq. on January 7, 2006 05:20 PM
In fact, I'm surprised that our good friends on the right aren't advancing Bob Ney as a possible replacement for Tom DeLay. I mean, Republicans obviously think that he's fit to serve as Chairman of the House Administration Committee--even if he's a lying criminal. Posted by: Geek, Esq. on January 7, 2006 05:24 PM
Hi Squeek, (that Esquaar shit makes me snicker every time) - Posted by: rickinstl on January 7, 2006 05:35 PM
Wow, I don't know who's innocent or guilty here but you've got to love the attitude of several posters. You know, sentence now, trial later. Much more efficent that way. Posted by: Karen on January 7, 2006 05:39 PM
I still don't know how I feel about DeLay That's priceless. What part of arrogant sleazy lying crook are making up your mind about? As far as being shrill, just how passive should the patriots of this country be about the de facto coup taking place? Harsh words, but Bush has officially, formally declared that the law does not apply to him. It's that simple. And that treasonous. Posted by: tubino on January 7, 2006 05:40 PM
As far as being shrill, just how passive should the patriots of this country be about the de facto coup taking place? tubby is all full of drama today! So does this mean no elections come November, tubby? Posted by: BrewFan on January 7, 2006 05:47 PM
Bush has officially, formally declared that the law does not apply to him. Uh huh. Remind me again who it was that came up with the "no controlling legal authority" gem? Posted by: zetetic on January 7, 2006 06:00 PM

Your teenage offspring: Dad, what did you do back when there was the Constitutional Crisis? You supported the Constitution, didn't you? You: Well, sugarplum, your old dad supported George W.'s asserted authority over any congressional law or constitutional limit. Offspring: No! Really? Why? --------------- Your turn. Posted by: tubino on January 7, 2006 06:32 PM
Shrill: ideology of lawlessness. Good stuff by a knowledgeable guy. Posted by: tubino on January 7, 2006 06:36 PM
Let's keep score again as far as current members of Congress are concerned: Indicted: Convicted: Members identified as likely to be indicted: Ney will make three Republicans indicted. I'm sure all Republicans will rise in denouncing him once his guilt is a matter of legal record as opposed to merely being painfully obvious. Posted by: Geek, Esq. on January 7, 2006 06:37 PM
Uncle Tubby? "What did you do when we were at war with the head-choppers? You know, before they nuked Washington and Boston? You were with those who fought for freedom, right?" Tubesteak - "Shut up and bow to Mecca, girl. You know we're removing your clitoris tomorrow. Allah be praised. Posted by: rickinstl on January 7, 2006 06:51 PM
RickInSTL has done just the right thing by changing the subject. This tit-for-tat is important--but only insofar as it hurts us in regard to the real issues of our time, our death-spiraling demographics and the rise of Islam. I have a gripe about Republicans, too, however. It's that in Afghanistan and Iraq, they're helping muslims put their house in order. When we helped the mujahideen in Afghanistan, they thanked us by filling al-Qaida's ranks. Now, in contemporary Afghanistan and Iraq, I think we're spending national treasure to help muslims raise a new, larger generation to be tutored by al-Jazeera and Wahhabi religious schools. I give the Republicans credit mostly for having marginally reduced the federal taxes on fathers and mothers who are doing a most needful thing for their country, making more little Americans. If only I could push the entire AARP into the grave, then (after justly punishing me with a lifetime spent reading in my cell) the Republicans could cut those damn taxes enough to make it more feasible to have four or six children. But as for the Republicans' conduct of the War on Islam, the fact that there is no War on Islam is pretty much the beginning and end of my criticism of them. My highest praise is that they're about as good as one can expect from the American voters at present. One has to fear for people who will neither reproduce themselves nor kill their enemies in sufficient numbers. Posted by: Arafel on January 7, 2006 10:37 PM
Uncle Tubby? "What did you do when we were at war with the head-choppers? You know, before they nuked Washington and Boston? You were with those who fought for freedom, right?" Me: I always fought for freedom. When your gov't prematurely pulled out of Afghanistan, I pointed out that an abandoned Afghanistan would likely revert to the same freedom-threatening fundamentalists, except with more drug money. When the US govt asserted a right to imprison American citizens without legal recourse, I protested. When the executive branch asserted a right to warrantless wiretapping prohibited by FISA, I protested. When the president asserted a right to ignore explicit laws, I protested. In all these areas, I had to fight against the rightwingers, who were a bunch of bedwetting ninnies, preferring to give up their liberties for a cheap promise of safety. I don't understand who is FOR Delay apart from partisan hacks. He has consistently supported using our tax money to reward those who provide him with expensive trips. He is pro-pork, if there's something in it for him and the republicans. And ace doesn't know how he feels about him??? I'd love to hear joeindc44 tell me how this makes Delay EFFECTIVE at anything joe is proud of. C'mon. Let's hear it. Even if he is never convicted, what part of Delay's goal of shifting OUR money to corporate welfare for the gain of the party elites? Posted by: on January 7, 2006 11:23 PM

rickinstl, When the Bush administration lobbied to get the war funding legislation written so as to do away with accountability and invite war-profiteering, I protested. You, I suppose, did nothing. When it turned out that the Bush pattern of corruption and profiteering is one of the many reasons for the US failure to achieve its goals in Iraq, I was not surprised. Extra Armor Could Have Saved Many Lives, Study Shows By MICHAEL MOSS This story is truly heartbreaking when you know the backstory -- of crony contracts favoring the inferior stuff, and a CEO making tens of millions in the war profits. But the rightwingers imagine that the enemy is the one who leaked the secret study -- not the corrupt and incompetent leadership. I bet I only write 20% of the posts signed as tubino. (Mine are the ones that are reality-based.) What a bunch of sniveling bedwetters infest this blog. Rather than engage like adults, they merely write their usual stupidities, but under my handle. Dad, what did you do back when there was the Constitutional Crisis? You supported the Constitution, didn't you? Can you believe this pompous ass? This white-bread, anti-U.S. military, pro-communist, asswipe? While men and women have sacrificed their lives and limbs and left their families to fight on foreign soil, this piece of shit who calls himself Tubino is actually proud of his efforts commenting on blogs. Tubino will hold a sign that says a total lie, protesting his own president, Bush disrespects the Constitution and thinks he is on the same level as those who fought for freedom on the beaches of Normandy. Tubino thinks he is true patriot and a hero just like a sailor drowning in the Pacific in 1944 after his ship was torpedoed by Jap sub when he places an Impeach Bush bumper sticker on his car. Tubino, you are nothing more than a leach, a parasite sucking the blood of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for this country. You and your kind have done nothing to contribute to America. Instead, you have done everything possible defeat the United States of America. Keep making noise about the Bush and the NSA spying on terrorists. It will spell more victories for us and more defeats for you.

Okay, Timmy. Let me tell you what a thread with the "Big T" usually looks like. First, there's Ace's post. It could be on global warming, taxation, puppies...it doesn't really matter, actually. Becuase tubino's response will inevitably be some links to a lefty blog on a point that has nothing to do with the subject of the post. He then makes the same fucking points over and over again about how America is doomed, Bush is the worst president ever, etcetera and fucking etcetera. Being a disgusting ghoul, he usually invokes the memory of all of those who have been lost in battle. Honestly, tubino is boring as hell and a rude threadjacking moonbat who doesn't deserve the time we're giving him here. Keep your sanity. Starve the motherfucker. Posted by: TooBeano on January 8, 2006 12:38 AM
Lets see, Delay gets whacked by a local prosecutor who hardly has any jurisdiction over Delay's action. It took multiple grand juries and the first charge was dropped as a matter of law. The second charge does not appear to have any factual merit since the Tx money laundering statute requires the money itself to be the tainted item. But, this thread is full of crazies. and trolls. crazy trolls. This gem: what part of Delay's goal of shifting OUR money to corporate welfare for the gain of the party elites? is gibberish. Ok, I get it, corporate welfare helps the party elites. The economy never grows, its just more money taken from the poor and given to the rich because the poor have all the money. That's why the bottom 50% of earners pay less than 10% of fed tax. That's a great model, one all of us economic conservatives strive for. Way to identify it. What a worthless thread where trolls just air out irrelevant laundry that has been argued elsewhere. But you got me, I only know that Delay -the hammer- is known as an effective leader. We could get any House Republican to shift the tax from your minimum wage job to corporations for the gain of the party elites. But Delay did it with panache. He didn't need music to do it, either. Once he made eye contact, it was a total predator - prey situation. Posted by: joeindc44 on January 8, 2006 04:48 AM
Well, it does appear that everyone here has had their full share of caffiene this golden morning. Re: Tom Delay, my prediction is that the whole case(s) against him get thrown out. Then the fun begins. Posted by: Enfant Perdu on January 8, 2006 10:25 AM
I'm fairly up to speed on the Ronnie Earle shit - it isn't going anywhere. Can't speak to the Abramoff shit as it relates to Earle so I won't offer an opinion on it.
