Saint Cindy's Got Deep, Presumably Holy, Pockets Behind Her

What a shock.

I talk about media bias so much it makes me bored. But here we go again.

The media never believes that a protest against liberals is "authentic." Take the Swift Boaters, for example-- they were determined to prove that the Swift Vets were essentially bought and paid for by the Republican Party.

They never seem to question where the left's protestors and malcontents are getting their money from.

Although this piece is a nice step in that direction.

It's ABCNews, but it's a local affiliate doing the actual reportage. I don't know if the actual ABCNews national team would lower themselves to cover such an obvious non-story.

Kind of similar with Robert Torricelli -- it was the local NY affiliate of NBC News (I believe) that broke the story, while the Times and the other national media studiously ignored it.

I am so sick of the Sheehan non-story. It's even worse than the "Shark's gonna eat me!" summer of 2001, or the Michael Jackson non-story earlier this year. I mean, who the hell cares?

Casey Sheehan is the important one in this story -- he gave the last full measure of devotion to his country and should be remembered for it. But Casey is now not even a person; he is simply "the son of Cindy Sheehan", a nonperson who had the good grace to get himself killed and provide the Left with a handy talking-point.

Casey Sheehan deserves better than this.

Posted by: Monty on August 26, 2005 02:16 PM

Casey Sheehan is just a dead babykiller, a child trained to murder by Zionists, stolen by Evil Chimpy.

Posted by: on August 26, 2005 02:20 PM

Local television media to the extent that it's biased tends to be so due to a trickle down effect from the national media.

The true bias comes from Reuters, AP, and network affiliate wire copy which local producers re-write, but essentially don't have the time or inclination to fact-check.

Yes, most people working in local newsrooms tend to be left-leaning, but they are less inclined (or possibly have less opportunity) to insert this bias into local coverage.

For this reason, local television media sometimes covers stories with national appeal that the big 3 and cable news networks refuse to out of bias.

Their bills are being paid by True Majority, a non-profit set up by Ben Cohen, of Ben and Jerry's ice cream fame.

Note to self: avoid buying products in the future that fund moonbats.

I don't know whether to hope that comment above is satire, or real.

Clarificiation - the anonymous post. Not you, Tony.

I heard the "protest" at Camp Casey is a catered affair. That can't be cheap.

Posted by: on August 26, 2005 02:41 PM

I haven't touched Ben and Jerry's ice cream ever since I found out what raving leftist nutbags the founders are. It never ceases to amaze me how liberal grease-stains like Cohen can bad-mouth America while taking advantage of it in the finest capitalist style. Well, not with my money, bub.

Like all lefties, Ben Cohen thinks the lucre's only bad if it's yours. Irony of ironies, Ben & Jerry's sold out to Unilever Corp. (aka "The MAN") years ago for MILLIONS.

Posted by: on August 26, 2005 02:58 PM

Anyone know the tax implications of all these freebies? At some point, the IRS is going to be looking into Sheehan's finances. I can't imagine that the "absolute moral authority" card carries much weight with the IRS. A public announcement that one refuses to pay any taxes seems like a triple dog dare to the IRS to come knockin' on the door.

If there's tax liability, I'd want to know about it ahead of time to set some money aside or to start cookin' the books, if I were of the type to engage in such shady behavior.

Posted by: rw on August 26, 2005 03:03 PM

Big Media is really the only enemy the United States has.

Put -

(i) a forger (and making the Sheehan non-story into a 'story' is akin to forgery) and

(ii) a quisling (given the possible huge negative effect the Sheehan non-story could have on our efforts in Iraq and elsewhere against terrorism, Big Media's handling of it is quisling-like)

in a blender, add some metrosexual gloss and you end up with Public Enemy No 1 - Big Media.

Posted by: max on August 26, 2005 03:06 PM

hey, Cindy is going to bus up to DC after texas. I wonder what the big Dem leaders are going to do?

Will they meet with her? Will she say goof-ball things on the air with them standing around?

Will she camp out at Clinton's office and demand a meeting wanting to know why she supported (and supports) the war?

Will this backfire on the Dem's even worse for TV ad material in 2006 and 2008?

What fun!

FWIW, I was actually shocked by the locale of the station sponsoring this report. I clicked on the link expecting to see the page of the Killeen/Waco ABC affiliate, since they generally have a pro-military slant (home of Ft. Hood) and are local to "Camp Casey", but imagine my surprise when I found out it was the SF Bay Area affiliate.....

You'd think they'd have a vested interest in keeping this story down, given the sentiments of the majority of their audience.

Actually, the mainstream media has covered this -- maybe not as much as you like. But they have. Here's a quick example, from the 8/13/05 edition of the NYT: "Ms. Sheehan's natural, sincere look and earthy appearance on television do not betray the semiprofessional operation running the show at Camp Casey: organizers from Code Pink, a women's peace organization, and a public relations expert from Fenton Communications, are in constant Blackberry and cellphone communication with the news media and keep careful watch of Ms. Sheehan's schedule."

"hey, Cindy is going to bus up to DC after texas. "

I'm guessing it will be less of a Greyhound than it will be a Jane Fonda-style-veggie-tour bus, complete with all mod cons.

The Greyhounds are so full of icky peasant people.

"hey, Cindy is going to bus up to DC after texas. "

She can use Paul Wellstone's old green campaign bus.

He won't be needing it.

Posted by: Master of None on August 26, 2005 04:32 PM

Seriously, though, is there a chance we could use the power of the blogosphere to promote a Ben & Jerry's boycott by the Bush-voting 53% of the American public? Nevermind that ultimately it wouldn't be economically successful; that's not the point. Just the attempt alone would sucker the MSM into decrying it as an attempt at right-wing censorship, which in turn would have the unintended effect of highlighting the fact that the whole Summer-O'-Cindy thang is just a well-funded moonbat put-up job. This in turn would cost the MSM one or two more ratings points, which should always be our mid-range goal.

Posted by: Johnny on August 26, 2005 04:48 PM

Master of None:

Here in Minnesota, you see a lot of those "WWWD" bumper stickers. (What would Wellstone do?) Lots of moonbats hereabouts are convinced that Wellstone was killed by the ChimpyRoveMcHitlerBurton operatives.

Posted by: Monty on August 26, 2005 04:52 PM

No point in it, quiggs. Ben and Jerry haven't owned Ben & Jerry's for some years now. You can't hurt them by not buying, I'm afraid.

Posted by: S. Weasel on August 26, 2005 05:28 PM

No duh, Monty. The Bush crime family took out Wellstone just like they did with Richie Valens and the Big Bopper. Connect the dots.

Posted by: Moonbat_One on August 26, 2005 05:45 PM

S. Weasel: You missed my point. The goal isn't to hurt B&J/Unilever financially; the goal is to goad the MSM into drawing attention to the fact that Cindy is a paid-for promotional campaign rather than "a lone woman bravely seeking justice" etc.

Posted by: quiggs on August 26, 2005 05:55 PM

Monty-- Along with the "What Would Wellstone Do" bumper stickers, I also see "Wellstone Lives!".

Do they really think he's the Messiah? (he was Jewish after all)

Posted by: Master of None on August 26, 2005 06:00 PM

Oh. Hm. I think that's a pretty tricky bankshot, quiggs.

Boycotts have to be pretty extensive and loud to stand out from the background noise of market fluctuations. It's a tool seldom used effectively to catch attention of the manufacturer...let alone the media.

I haven't bought icecream in years, though, so consider me standing shoulder-to-shoulder on this one.

Tomorrow is the big confrontation between the pro-servicemen Moms and the pro- Zarqawii Moms (sheehan). Maybe, there will be a huge knock down drag out fight. Some of the 911 families will be there. I want to see Debra Burlingame kick the shit out of Mother Sheehan. Wouldn't that be cool?

Posted by: on August 26, 2005 08:17 PM

S. Weasel: Maybe not that tricky at all. Here's how it can go: (1) First, we enlist a sufficient number of name bloggers to generate the reqquired buzz; (2) buzz in hand, we then (somehow) get two big radio guys in on the scam (say, Limbaugh & Hewitt); (3) L&H -- on the same day -- call for a listener boycott of B&J/Unilever; (4) when Unilever hears this they don't wait for quarterly numbers to come out -- they immediately issue strident press releases saying (truthfully) that B&J personally are doing this as private citizens, not on behalf of the company, etc., plus some understated innuendo about irresponsible right-wingers making unfounded accusations; (5) the MSM picks up on that last part, and umps on the opportunity to slam L&H, bloggers, and the right wing in general, under the guise of "assault on free speech/supression of dissent"; (6) but in the process they can't avoid explaining the underlying cause of the whole brouhaha -- to wit, Cindy is a paid shill of left wing interests. BINGO. When the general public -- who are already ambivalent at best about Cindy -- hears that tidbit, and notices that it has been supressed by all previous media coverage, the MSM loses a few more viewers.

Not too much of a longshot, and certainly worth the effort that I personally plan to invest in it (i.e., zilch).

Posted by: quiggs on August 26, 2005 08:19 PM

...and keep careful watch of Ms. Sheehan's schedule

"grief" is schedulable now?

Tony: "Hello, is this the courthouse?"

Switchboard: "Yes, how may I help you?"

Tony: "I've got this notice to appear for jury duty tuesday, but that will cause a scheduling conflict with 24 hours of grief I've got planned starting 9:30pm monday night. Can I get another date?"

Switchboard: "Are you sure you can't reschedule this grief sir?"

Tony: "Well, I suppose I could, its just that I had some invitations sent out in anticipation of the grief"

Posted by: Tony on August 26, 2005 08:54 PM

I want to see Debra Burlingame kick the shit out of Mother Sheehan. Wouldn't that be cool?

It would be even better if you threw Kristin Breitweiser into the mix.

Not covering as much as I'd like? That's one fucking blip on the radar of one fucking paper, that describes the "semiprofessional operation," whose only function is apparently" keep[ing] watch of Ms. Sheehan's schedule."

First of all, it looks like a red herring to me. Yes, there is "a" public relations person there - he was sent by Fenton, whose bill is being paid by Ben Cohen. The casual reader might assume that some Fenton employee took a few days off to show the little old ladies from Code Pink ("a women's peace organization") how to use a cell phone. Isn't that cute?

If the story was about conservatives, you can bet your ass it would read more like:

"The powerful PR firm of Fenton Communications, known for their work with [Christians, conservatives or Republicans, etc.] carefully coordinates every move....Fenton's hefty fees are being paid by..."

How much did "the media" flog the ridiculous story about "millionaire Bob Perry's ties to The Swift Boat Veterans"?

If a Republican donates money to a group they're bought and paid for. Far left nuts like Soros and groups like Moveon (and Code Pink) get a pass.

Not a hell of alot if she pulls an Arianna. When she ran for gov. she had to divulge the taxes she paid . In two years she paid zero state taxes and only $771 in federal taxes. All her expenses were paid by her corporation so she could only pay herself a very low income and thereby avoid taxes. .

CINDY SAT HERE

...Inside the small bungalow there are computers, faxes and air conditioning.

Before Cindy Sheehan came to Crawford, the place didn't have a phone and couldn't pay the bills. But in the past two weeks it has taken in more than $100,000 in donations. Pins mark the hometowns of those who come here.

Karen Meredith: "This is the original site where Cindy sat in a ditch."

Damn, just like all those historical places where Washington slept!

Posted by: Tony on August 27, 2005 03:27 AM

This one to Bush: "I'm rily mad at you and you make my hart hurt,"' she purportedly wrote in one published letter to the president. "I don't think your doing a very good job. You keep sending soldiers to Iraq and it's not fair. Do you have a soldier of your own in Irak?"

Ach! Ptoo! Vomitous! Man, I'd like to think I'd have the basic good taste to find this revolting even if I agreed with it.

When you're buying ice cream, remember Ben and Jerry's foundation is financing Sheehan.

Ben and Jerry's will kill you - it contains dioxin.

BEN AND JERRY'S - the silent killer!

The study, presented Thursday at a 'Dioxin 2000' conference in Monterey, California, estimated that the concentration of dioxin found in Ben and Jerry's could account for 200 "extra" cases of cancer among lifetime consumers of the ice cream.
The stuff is probably radioactive too...
