Meet the New Pope, Same As the Old Pope

Jonah Goldberg on the "solipsistic" (hey! That's my five dollar word!) fantasy of American liberals that there's a chance the Church will "reform" itself to validate their lifestyle choices.

He Who Shall Not Be Named will not, in fact, be named. You'll have to settle for subtext.

Goldberg has an interesting quote, which many of you already know about, because while you were researching the Pope's biography and philosophy I was just making cheap jokes about He Who Shall Not Be Named. But if you missed it:

That said, there's still a good lesson for the American right and left to draw from Ratzinger's election. One of the most interesting aspects of his story is that he was, by all accounts, a liberal until the year 1968. But during student riots at Tübingen University, where he was teaching, he looked into the soul of the New Left and saw a deep void. "For so many years," he said in an interview years ago, "the 1968 revolution and the terror created — in the name of Marxist ideas — a radical attack on human freedom and dignity, a deep threat to all that is human."

.... a radical attack on human freedom and dignity, a deep threat to all that is human.

Yeahp, that sounds like Nazi-talk to me.

Pope Polling Update: Sounds goofy to me, but they're asking the right track/wrong track question about the likely direction to which Benedict XVI will lead the Church.

Right direction-- 39% Wrong direction--17%

And how about this for honesty and common sense?

Don't know enough to say-- 47%

The guy's been in office for 24 hours, for crying out loud.

Thanks to KCTrio.

Awesome Sullometer, Ace. Just fucking awesome.

I like that you have it pegged in the red zone.

He Who Shall Not Be Named will not, in fact, be named.

That's really very good. Take a victory lap.

Ace,

What is striking to me is the use, or abuse rather, of the term "conservative" when referring to then Josef Cardinal Ratzinger, and now, His Holiness Pope BXVI.

It seems to me that the Church as a system, must rely on its orthodoxy to maintain its system.

Here: Via The Corner, Josef Cardinal Ratzinger:

"... Christianity is not "our" work; it is a Revelation; it is a message that has been consigned to us, and we have no right to reconstruct it as we like or choose. "

And yes, the hue and cry over the "failure" of the conclave to elect a "liberal" or "progressive" Pope is simply the narcissistic rage and solipsistic nonesense the world has come to expect when the "aggrieved" do not get there way or are in some way "direspected".

If one wants to claim membership or identify themselves with some system, then surely they must respect, understand, and follow the rules of that system. Otherwise, they are part of their own system, which is no doubt fine, but not the same as being part the original system to which they claimed membership.

This type of systems problem has for several centuries now played out amongst the Jews, beginning, more or less, in the nineteenth century and continues today.

And no, there is no "resolution" here to be found. Rather, there will be those who adhere to the orthodoxy of their religious faith and those who do not.

But let's be honest, we all could do without the gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands. The sky is not falling. And yes, the Pope is Catholic.

So, the new Pope didn't like the Bader-Meinhoff Gang?

Posted by: on April 20, 2005 12:39 PM

What? OChub doesn't like the Pope?

Posted by: someone on April 20, 2005 12:42 PM

MeTooThen, great post.

Yesterday, that was the first thing that needed to be corrected in the comments is that he's not "conservative," Pope Benedict (please, folks, that's his actual naame now; there's no more "Ratzinger") is "Orthodox."

Orthodox.

It's not a political affiliation.

I have plenty of disagreements with the church. But I've been going crazy reading all of the pundits try to break the issues down into "liberal" versus "conservative". It just doesn't work that way. The pope is operating (or at least he thinks he's operating) in a theological plane which is really something different from the latest categories of our intelligensia.

He believes he's accountable to God. I can't even begin to imagine the effect it would have on a devout Catholic to be chosen as pope. But I'm quite sure that there simply isn't any way to predict it, now, despite all of the nonsense from pundits.

I hope he's a good pope. The world needs guidance. We're hungering for it. Will Pope Benedict XVI provide it? I desperately hope so.

Don't these people get it -if they want a Pope-less church that ordains women, celebrates gay marriage and hands out condoms, there's a ready made church just waiting. It's called Anglicanism (or Episcopalianism for the Yanks in the crowd). You can even become a freaking bishop without even believing in the tenets of the church as long as you are a "theologian". It's a liberal's wet dream with wheels on...

Too bad all their churches are empty these days....

Which is basically Ratzinger's point. Though the Catholic Church hasn't been doing too well numbers-wise on the old continent, it's still doing better than the various state-sanctioned prod churches in Europe. Religion is supposed to be (morally) a bit hard. It's supposed to provide high standards, standards which you will often fail to meet - but hopefully you'll become a slightly better person by trying.

When a church says "anyting goes, dude" then the congregation pretty much goes and doesn't come back. What's the point? Better to play X-Box then mumble of bunch of words nobody takes seriously anyway.

I've written it before and its got to be spread around to these libs. The Church is consistent and the politcal world occilates around it. The Church transcends the merely political.
It believes that it is the caretaker of the TRUTH, and that is not something that can be debated or negotiated. It just is.
It can't be changed or modified to suit "the times", it is a constant standard to be striven for.

The libs think that since perfection is impossible to achieve, the standards should be dumbed down to what they are comfortable with. Totally missing the point that it is not the standard that is important in and of itself, but our struggle to live up to that standard. We're supposed to fail. It is only through God's love and mercy that we can succeed.

In response to someone asking why the video tape doesn't show Tyler Robinson's face (PS, it does, but it's crappy video so it's blurry):

Candace Owens
@RealCandaceO

Because as I demonstrated on my show, there were MANY young men that all woke up and decided to dress in Maroon shirts and light shorts on the day of the Charlie's assassination.

The footage can be any one of these young men and in my opinion is likely multiple of them.

If Tyler Robinson's defense would like to contact me-- I'd be happy to supply them the folder of the maroon boys that I began archiving when I noticed the bizarre fashion trend.

I have thus far ID'd two of them, but will focus on IDing the rest of them when I am back on air.

I have maintained that the Feds had multiple decoy maroon boys on the ground that day. Without a clear image, they certainly cannot declare it is Tyler Robinson which is why all the Zionist influencers are hoping they can simply hypnotize the public into trusting blurry images and videos.
For such an "open and shut case" they have thus far provided ZERO evidence of anything outside of a criminal government conspiracy, the likes of which hasn't been seen since the JFK assassination.

BREAKING: Lance Twiggs says that Robinson admitted to him in-person on Sept. 11 that the message he had sent the night before (presumably, messages sent while he was trying to retrieve his rifle the night of Sept 10) was true. He says Robinson told him "He wishes he hadn't done it."
Fenix Ammunition
@FenixAmmunition

Photos of the ammunition recovered from Tyler Robinson.

Remington headstamp on the case and despite the somewhat low resolution on the photo you can see the somewhat blunted nature of the projectile's tip.

This is a Remington Cor-Lokt soft point round. It's SPECIFICALLY designed to deform, slow down, and prevent an exit wound. Available at literally every single gun store and sporting goods store that sells ammunition.

In fact, 16 out of the 17 .30-06 varieties manufactured by Remington use some type of expanding, deforming, or fragmenting bullet. Only ONE of their products uses a full metal jacket projectile that could/would be expected to leave an exit wound.

Here's a clip of them sitting in my desk.

This has been the most easily debunked claim of their entire web of lies and it's really mind blowing considering this is exactly what you would choose for an assassination.

But yeah, definitely keep getting all your information from the DEI hire and the Portland pizza boy. I'm sure they know more about this than I do.

Post here, showing Tyler Robinson's ammunition, matching this guy's own box. And it is an expanding-tip hollow-point round.
