Did Anyone Record Today's Inside Politics on CNN?

Random Birkel tells me that I was just mentioned (by Judy Woodruff, no less).

I don't know if he's joking or not. But if you recorded it, please save it.

And if you're one of those guys who somehow knows the Ward Churchill style Totem Magic necessary to put a TV clip on the internet... my gosh, but I'd be appreciative to see it.

I'd love to show my Pappy, jes' to let him know his boy is doin' all right.

Hmmmm... There does seem to be a small uptick in Google and Yahoo referrals for the search words "Ace of Spades."

Then again, I just got a hit for a search on "Frank Gorshin Riddler," too.

Update: Birkel says scout's honor, Ace of Spades HQ was just name-checked by CNN.

Paula Zahn-- here I come, baby!

No CNN-alanche: The site was down because we got hit, once again, by a blitz of spammers.

Lexis/Nexis Transcript: Someone who didn't identify himself/herself (though I have two likely suspects in mind) was nice enough to forward me the transcript of the very brief name-check:

Time now to check what's going on in the blogosphere. And with me once again today to talk about what they are talking about, CNN political producer Abbi Tatton and Jacki Schechner. She's our blog reporter.

So, Jacki, I bet it's not baseball.

JACKI SCHECHNER, CNN BLOG REPORTER: No, it's more like Byrd. We've already heard what Senator Robert Byrd said on the floor of the Senate, comparing Republican tactics to Adolph Hitler's rise to power. Conservative blogs all over it.

Over at Captain's Quarters, he's got plenty to say, including this comment: "Byrd, with his attempted filibuster of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, is the last person who should be standing in the well of the Senate calling
anyone a Nazi." As some people may remember, that filibuster 14 hours.

ABBI TATTON, CNN POLITICAL PRODUCER: So the conservative bloggers
linking to this last night, and outraged for a couple of reasons. First of all, the comments by the senator himself, like what he actually said, but also the coverage of those comments. Radio Blogger here looking at how the
mainstream media has covered what Senator Byrd said. He goes through newspapers, cable news channels, left-wing blogs, other news channels as well, saying that there's no mention of Byrd.

Another thing just quickly, comments by another senator. This is Ted Stevens of Alaska. He wants to expand the FCC's indecency standards to cover cable. This also not going down very well.

Let's quickly look at Ace of Spades there. "Senator Ted Stevens wants to take your skinmax (ph) away. As Charlton Heston would say, 'Out of my cold, dead hands.'"

SCHECHNER: Want to go quickly over to Dr. Zhiblogo.com (ph), which is now -- or, I'm sorry, (UNINTELLIGIBLE), which is now my favorite name for a ablog, who says, "How stupid is this?" And says if there's anything that he doesn't want to see or he doesn't want his son to see, he'll just change the channel -- Judy.

WOODRUFF: Dr. Zhiblogo (ph), is that what you said -- Zhiblogo (ph)?

SCHECHNER: Dr. Zhiblogo (ph).

WOODRUFF: OK. That's a good one. All right. Abbi, Jacki, thank you both. Sorry we had to cut that short because of the baseball event at the White House.

....

And Random Birkel says they showed the site's banner. First time ever. Cool.

Unfortunately, it was still the Gannonhead banner.

Oh, well. Serves me right for leaving a joke up for too damn long.

Yeah, but of course it was for a Repub-bashing comment. Oh that strange new respect.

Posted by: someone on March 2, 2005 05:27 PM

Yes, I just posted exactly that.

Realized it five minutes after I heard I'd been mentioned... but of course the darned site was down.

Posted by: ace on March 2, 2005 05:30 PM

Vegas odds, I'd say.

Heh.

For the record, I would much rather be mentioned by Heather Nauert...but congrats.

Posted by: Peter on March 2, 2005 05:36 PM

Judy Woodruff? Wasn't she eaten by zombies?

Posted by: See-Dubya on March 2, 2005 05:36 PM

Okay, call me a pussy or a sell-out, but I un-posted that bit about CNN only linking me when I bashed the religious right.

I would like to be mentioned by them, after all.

I'm very mercenary. I've always admitted this.

Here's what I said, now safely buried in the comments:

Second Thoughts... What were the odds the first time Judy Woodruff would mention this site would be one of the few times I took issue with the religious right, and brought up the possibility of a split in the conservative coaltion?

What. Were. The odds.

Hey Ace,

Did you delete my post?

You censoring commie bastard!

Unless you didn't, in which case please change that to, "Hey, how goes, eh?"

Posted by: John from WuzzaDem on March 2, 2005 05:43 PM

Uhhh..I mean my comment.

Posted by: John from WuzzaDem on March 2, 2005 05:45 PM

Nope. No deleting. This site was down and may be a little buggy right now.

Posted by: ace on March 2, 2005 05:46 PM

You've de-Gannoned!

Posted by: someone on March 2, 2005 05:51 PM

Dude you shouldn't pander to the libs like this, you should force them to go down through all the posts. With this at the top they only have to stick their toe into the dark world of Ace O' Spades HQ. Leaving the post at the bottom would expose them to a combination of humor and rationality they've probably never experienced before.

Posted by: Iblis on March 2, 2005 05:52 PM

Dayum!

Posted by: Rusty on March 2, 2005 05:54 PM

Ilbis,

Well, you know, if it's not convenient, any new readers may just leave the site, you know.

But it actually doesn't look like there's any traffic generated by the mention. There were ten or so google/yahoo searches before the site went down; I don't imagine that there were a hell of a lot more potential readers.

Someone,

Yeah, I've been meaning to take that down for a while. The joke has run its course.

Plus, as CNN showed my banner, that means they showed the Jeff Gannon head "Death Card." Which I feel kinda silly about.

Posted by: ace on March 2, 2005 06:03 PM

Ace,

I hate to say what I'm about to say. In fact, right now I'm thinking about not sending this . . .

Forget about it, I'll email.

Posted by: hobgoblin on March 2, 2005 06:07 PM

I can guess, I think, what you're going to say. That it's a complete sell-out of me to take that update down just in hopes that CNN may mention me again.

And you know what? It is. I feel a little ashamed about it.

But the fact of the matter is this is the first time the site has ever been mentioned on TV. I really don't want to show my gratitude by immediately insulting them.

Did they quote it because it bashed Republicans? Of course they did.

It's a jerkoff move to censor in order to curry favor. I know that. But, again, first f'n' time. First time.

There's a saying about not biting the hand that feeds you.

I also know there's a saying about not being a big jerkoff sellout pussy, too.

Posted by: ace on March 2, 2005 06:21 PM

it is a black day for the empire.

ace has denounced the Gannon.

now I know how the USSR took Bhreznev's talk on Stalin.

= (

Posted by: hobgoblin on March 2, 2005 06:24 PM

So I guess the interview totally fell through? Bummer.

Btw, the size they usually show the banners on TV, I don't think anyone could've noticed the Gannon thing.

Actually, I sorta suspected you'd written the "But seriously" half of the post to draw an Instalanche. Cause Glenn likes the whole libertarians-bashing-conservatives thing too.

(Have I crossed the commenters' line here?)

Posted by: someone on March 2, 2005 06:27 PM

ace, (from ^^)

hardly. you're not selling out. I think you're a bit too concerned about being thought of as juvenile, but that's not selling out.

it's being a pussy.

no, seriously. Getting showcased on a national show is a big deal. make the modifications you need. (gannon was overdue). and putting your trashing of CNN in the comments was wise. You're not censoring, you're shifting assets on the battlefield to avoid ariel bombardment

Posted by: hobgoblin on March 2, 2005 06:29 PM

or perhaps "aerial" bombardment

man, i'm a moron with a typewriter sometimes

Posted by: hobgoblin on March 2, 2005 06:31 PM

Yeah, you'er not going to see much of a bump...

When the goddamn site goes down like that!

LOCK! GACK! ace.muLOCK! ace.mu.nCONNECTION_DENIED!

Posted by: blakjack on March 2, 2005 06:57 PM

It's not selling out to be polite. Selling out would be replacing the death skull (which I'm glad to see again) with Judy Woodruff's face.

You start doing that, and it's time for an intervention.

Posted by: Peter on March 2, 2005 07:05 PM

Oh, man, now I think I WANT judy woodruff's face on the death-card!

Posted by: ace on March 2, 2005 08:10 PM

Just make sure that the new banner features Judy's crossed eyes. Those damn things can help you "hypmotize" your way into some crazy blog money.

Posted by: Jack M. on March 2, 2005 08:56 PM

Hey Ace, Captain's Quarters has a link for the JW Inside Politics. You are mentioned.

Posted by: wyguy on March 2, 2005 09:10 PM

Sellout, totally. Its way better to be rich and comfy on a yacht parked off Tortola than to be respected.

Posted by: lauraw on March 2, 2005 09:20 PM

LauraW,

As I've always said, I want to sell out. Just no one's bothered to ask me to yet.

Wyguy,

Thanks for the head's up. Nice to be mentioned on CQ.

Posted by: ace on March 2, 2005 09:22 PM

Well, I don't need to worry about anyone on television mentioning MY shitty site, so I'll just go ahead and state that I think Judy Woodruff is a two-bit troll whore who has about as much talent as a moldy sponge (whatever the hell that means.)

Heh. Running a 4th rate blog DOES have its advantages!

Posted by: The Warden on March 2, 2005 11:39 PM

Instalanche is on.

Posted by: on March 3, 2005 01:35 AM

Yes, thank you, I know. I hope he doesn't start blogging until late in the morning so the link doesn't get too buried. It was the best link he's given me yet.

He was also nice enough to write a brief email.

So, very cool of Instapundit.
