Dan Rather: "The Blogging Machine," on Orders from the White House, Will Begin Drumbeat for Kerry Concession

Rather's commentary is both infuriating and hysterical. The White House, understandably, wants Kerry to knock it off with fantasies about litigating his way to victory, but Rather characterizes this as some sort of nefarious strategy. Meanwhile, as the Democrats talk of spending one or two weeks in Florida style recounts, Dan Rather assures us that "we'll just have to wait."

He's telling us that we need to go through with this bullshit, and that we should all be happy to do so. Is news or opinion, Document Dan?

But it turns out the White House won't be making these crazy demands alone. Oh, no. It will be employing its propgaganda organ, something called "The Blogging Machine," to agitate for an unconstitutional end to the election.

After Ed Bradley explains to Dan that if there are only 175,000 votes outstanding, but John Kerry is behind by about 175,000, then there's no realistic chance Kerry could win (which difficult math Dan seemed perfectly baffled by, incidentally), Dan the Document Man offers us all a new reason to hate his partisan guts:

DAN RATHER: One would expect that the blogging machine which the White House and the Bush-Cheney campaign has used for any number of purposes over their four years will start now, if it hasn't started already, to say, listen, Kerry-Edwards, for the good of the country, need to concede.

ED BRADLEY: I'm sure it's started already. If we could tune into the Internet [ummm.. can't they? -- Ace] we'd see that people are already saying that now. That's certainly the drum the White House is beating.

Emphasis mine.

We're the ones coordinating with political parties, you asshole? I'm sorry, did I rush on a story backed by transparent forgeries delivered to you by a seethingly partisan Texas Democrat?

Now, Dan: When you malign thousands of amateur analysts and writers, each of whom acts independently and without pay, as being in the service of the White House and under its control ("used... for any number of purposes," you say), and without any evidence whatsoever to prove that:

Would that be fact or opinion, Dan?

I know you want to believe it's a fact, because we embarassed your tired, senile partisan ass so badly and so thoroughly. But is this "fact" backed up by any, you know, facts?

Or perhaps it's just something Bill Burkett told you, dear?

Say it about me, personally, Danny, and I'll slap you with a libel suit.

I don't know anyone at the White House, and they don't "use" me. I have political opinions, Danny, just like you do, and also like you do, I use the means at my disposal to convey them. Of course, I merely have a keyboard and an internet connection, whereas you have a major news organization with which to push your leftist bias down our throats.

I think of this stupid shit all on my own. (Well, okay, I get a lot of it from Drudge and Instapundit, and they get it directly from the White House, but still.)*

Unbelievable.

They still don't get it. They never will.

By the way, Dan Rather actually says "the Bush-KERRY campaign has used [the blogging machine] for any number of purposes," but that was clearly just a verbal typo; in context, he clearly meant Bush-Cheney, and said Bush-Kerry accidentally. After all, the Bush-Kerry campaign doesn't exist, and it certainly hasn't existed for four years, as Rather specified.

* Just kidding about that, of course.

I turned that lunatic off to eat a quick dinner in peace, and this is what I miss? Because I have a question:

Where's my check, Dan? Where's Dick Cheney with my fucking check already? And don't tell me it's in the mail; Karl Rove assured me just last week I had direct deposit all set up.

God, but he's hateable. Dan, I mean. I wouldn't know about the others personally because I don't take orders from them.

He wants a steel cage death match with the blogosphere? Bring it on, Danny Boy.

Posted by: someone on November 3, 2004 04:30 AM

I missed this one!

I was busy seeing how many of the lefty blogger shut up shop early, crawled into bed and pulled the covers over their heads and bawled their eyes out.

You'd be surprised how high the count was. Pretty much all of them shut down at 11:00 PM. Josh Marshall, Tapped, Atrios, Kos, the whole yellow lot of them.

Enough for now, my implanted microchip just recieved a secret transmission from my Rovian overlord.

Must...blog...drumbeat...for...Kerry...concession.

Posted by: H.D. Miller on November 3, 2004 04:33 AM

I guess since CBS News threw everything but the kitchen sink at Pres. Bush, Dan figured he might as well use that too while he has the chance.

Posted by: Capp on November 3, 2004 04:37 AM

Drunk as I am, I had utterly forgotten to savor Bush's victory by watching Rather collapse on live TV. A friend mentioned Rather late in the night, so I immediately switched over. Somewhere in the middle of the Violent Femmes I heard "turnip soup" from assface. What was he talking about? Who knows.

But he and all his little tin soldiers looked thoroughly devastated and miserable, and that was enough for me.

Posted by: Rob on November 3, 2004 04:41 AM

Speak for yrself. When I called in to the VRWC yesterday for my instructions, I was told to intimidate black voters in East Oakland. Crap.

I ended up wearing a Saruman outfit with white staff & palantir, because as everyone knows, blacks DON'T DO FANTASY.

Stupid Dan:

The President can’t start the Blogging Machine. Only Ace can do that. Well Ace, Is it time?

Posted by: Jake on November 3, 2004 05:53 AM

The democratic party has no one to blame except for themselves for thinking they were clever enough to stuff a mythical fabricator who's created each and every one of his very own special "facts of life" down the throats of a group of people in our country who they've determined must not be smart enough to know they are being jacked-off-by-a-liberal-in-the-box, who when viewed dry, without any reverb or special effects whatsoever, becomes crystally clear that the only real achievement in his life, that could possibly be worthy of any praise at all, is unfortunately only real in the small small world that's currently occupied by the ver-wy special senator from Massachusetts, because unfortunately in the virtual real world of which the rest of us exist in, it's been exposed as just another pathetic lie that was specifically created by the pathelogical lying liberal from the most leftists region of the democratic parties far left region of itself for no other reason than to make him and his party feel good. See map > way over here. He was conflicted about whether he should've told his party or not, but in his extreme nuanced fashion he rationalized, why fuck up a good thing, especially when they don't know it's not real.

Posted by: Gary B. on November 3, 2004 07:13 AM

Exactly why they are less and less relevant. I am new to "the blogsphere" and I love it. This is where I come now, I do not watch MSM and rarely watch FNC. I do hit the news sites and the popular Blogs. The MSM has lost me forever. Keep up the good work everyone.

Posted by: Fireproof4Ever on November 3, 2004 07:17 AM

Ace, do you know why New Mexico, Nevada, and Iowa have not been called for the presdient? I don't even watch CBS anymore. I knew the news media was Liberal and biased, but I never really believed they would try and steal an election for the DNC. I think the exit polls were a deliberate attempt to supress Republican votes, and I'm beginning to think Florida in 2000 was just the same.

Posted by: Pam on November 3, 2004 08:30 AM

Sometime in the middle of the night, with the President ahead in Ohio by about 140,000 votes Rather said something like, "Ed Bradley is looking at the numbers out of Ohio and it is starting to look like Ohio is kinda, sorta looking like it might be leaning toward Bush."

Courage, Dan. Courage.

Posted by: Steve L. on November 3, 2004 08:39 AM

The "Blogging Machine" reference reminded me of the LLMSM channeling WH talking points during Clinton's tenure.

[Un]tune your ears the same way you slightly unfocus your eyes to see the hidden image in the scrambled picture and perhaps you'll "hear" what I mean. Their complaints reveal much in this respect.

In closing...

YAHOO!

WE WON!

Posted by: Scorpyon46 on November 3, 2004 09:02 AM

Ace, you forgot to mention that the blogosphere doesn't falsely maintain it's non-partisan like Dan does. A small point, but relevant in this instance; it would be easier to stomach these comments if Dan would just be Honest about his bias.

PS: Bill over at InDC has forbidden folks from getting overly gloaty. So, can we do it here? ;)

Miami Blogging Machine?

Posted by: Steve the Llamabutcher on November 3, 2004 09:30 AM

The 2000 operation to generate false Democrat momentum was much more effective than last night's. In 2000 they were calling Florida when report after report showed it as a tie, while this year, although the bogus exit polls boosted Kerry, the returns showed Bush with a big lead. No way the MSM could pull off a wrong call with these numbers. The public can only swallow so much bologny. Thanks to the bloggers and their white house handlers for a great night. How sweet it is!

Posted by: James on November 3, 2004 09:36 AM

Douchebag Dan is beyond irrelevant.

Posted by: zetetic on November 3, 2004 09:40 AM

Rather and Bradley -- it's a generational thing. CBS at this point is AARP TV. Both of those guys are ready for the Liberal Media Nursing Home. Somebody shoud tell Bradley that you don't "tune in" to the Internet. The soooner a new generation takes over at CBS, the better.

Posted by: dicklobb on November 3, 2004 09:50 AM

Ace,
You need to get on the phone and make sure that the VRWC gets your check to you. If they don't, you should start writing for Kerry.

You did fill out the necessary forms at the last VRWC meeting, didn't you?

Posted by: CTStephen on November 3, 2004 10:16 AM

Mr. Rather: keep a stiff upper chin.
For interminable weeks after 9/11 you exorted us with a patriotic "Courage" at the end of your newscasts.
Now, at the very end of all your newscasts forever, we say to you:
"Porridge... its on your bib."

Posted by: misles on November 3, 2004 10:24 AM

Brokaw did a much better job of hiding his true feelings. But, they were exposed recently when he slammed the blogosphere for attacking Rather over filegate. My respect for the man plummeted through the floor. No, the network of Katie and Matt isn't any less biased than the rest of the alphabets. Such a shame.

It must be the living in the artificial bubble of NYC that does it. When you are bombarded from all sides 24/7 with the relentless assault on truth and rationality that hangs over the city like a cloud of killer bees, I reckon its impossible to prevent eventual penetration of the powerful mind control rays emanating from the hive.

Er, excuse me for that somewhat tortured mixed metaphor. I'm still a little giddy.

Posted by: Reid on November 3, 2004 10:29 AM

Dan the man's calling you a machine? Revel in it Ace. Sure, you'd be happier if Kim Richards were calling you a machine, but this is almost as good isn't it? Being called a machine by...Dan...err.. never mind.

Posted by: Phil on November 3, 2004 11:51 AM

Poor Ed. He had to explain to Dan 4 of 5 times that there simply were not enough votes left in Ohio for Kerry to win, and then, good ol' Dan, insisted we would have to wait and see.

I stopped watching Dan for news. I now watch him for entertainment. Yes, it is mean, but he is the one who put on the clown suit.

It is just impossible for me to muster any sympathy for him, no matter how sad a character he has become.

This once respected (by his peers) broadcaster has thrown away his professional and personal reputation, aided in the destruction of an entire news channel and will soon slink away to a sad, lonely life.

GOOD! Hey, the arrogant asshole DID try to personally make a president.

The only thing that would give me more pleasure is for Dan to hang on by the fingernails until 2008 and then see Hillary LOSE in a landslide to anyone else.

Posted by: Just Don on November 3, 2004 12:45 PM

I was flipping around like everybody else last night, and one thing I noticed was that for several hours, Fox News was giving Kerry more electoral votes than CNN or CBS. I guess it was some Rove plot to get the Democrats' hopes up or something.

Posted by: Jim Treacher on November 3, 2004 02:26 PM

I flipped to watch the CBS despair just in time to see Dan's blog-slam. I know it was late, and every network looked tired, but jeez, these two looked, I don't know, re-animated (in a corpse brought to life against the laws of nature sort of way). It felt like a BSnews deathwatch. Bradley looked barely able to support himself, clutching his notes. And for some reason, the CBS set looked abandoned. I think only three people were left - Dan, Ed, and analyst (?). Had everyone else gone home to work on the next installment of the National Guard story (There must be an impeachable offense in there somewhere!)?

Posted by: Bill on November 3, 2004 02:59 PM

I can just see Good old Dan flying around on a boomstick shaking is fist and scraming..."Curse You George Bush.. I'll get you.. and your little blog too!"

Posted by: LarryConley on November 3, 2004 03:48 PM

Dan said that the reason his network had not called Ohio for Bush when other networks had that, "We have a long standing principle, uh, we'd rather be last than wrong."

Hehe.

He actually said this more than once!

Posted by: Robert on November 3, 2004 07:47 PM

When will Dan Rather give his concession speech?

Posted by: Greg Schreiber on November 3, 2004 07:51 PM

President Bush's most memorable line in the closing days? "Come stand with me." An eloquence as simplistic as found in the Gettysburg Address.

Posted by: Cincinnatus on November 3, 2004 07:56 PM

Dan Rather's ignorance of the internet and the blogosphere is hilariously sad. I don't expect the guy to be a network admin or anything, but the tangible paranoia in his comments about the White House "using" bloggers to advance a political agenda in some kind of coherent, organized way?

Please. It's like herding cats.

If Dan’s is shilling for Windsurfer/Pony Boy & the DNC, then of course its perfectly logical for him to attribute the Blogger’s drum beat to concede - to the White House/Rove.

Obviously, if he’s doing it, it’s natural for him to think that every else one is guilty of illegal electioneering!

He did it in 2000 when he prematurely called Florida for Gore, while the polls were still open in the panhandle, which probably held down REP votes for Bush. He/CBS News then promised the FCC/FEC that he would behave himself. Right!

Well, by this slip, we all know where Dan gets his marching orders from – hung again by his on rope! He is comical, but deserves a criminal conviction. Maybe this will start to stem the tide with the MSM anchors straight-faced collusion.

On the CBS “Elitist Views”, tonight, old douche bag Dan even blamed the bloggers for the rigged exit polls’ false alarm on the web yesterday. Really!

Well, his company help pay for the polls, so they have more responsibility for the false impact on the election than the bloggers. By the way, who in the MSM leaked the rigged exit poll news to Drudge, to set up and take advantage of Blogworld to spread the news and “suppress” voters participation????? Hummmm, Danny Boy? Somebody needs to be incarcerated for this faux pas.

I will never forget the look on Ed Bradley's face as he tried to explain the OH voter math to Danny Boy, hilarious! Get out the straight jacket for Dan.

By the way, Ace, now that we’re victorious thur W, let’s get back to Sumner Redstone to find out if he’s permanently tabled that sham investigation of Rathergate – or will he release it now that the election is complete, as he stated he would. What say?

Exposure of these people for what they are is the best way to defeat their evil deeds.

Congrats to all in Blogworld on the victory of this battle – but the war goes on. The DEMS don’t, and won’t get it.

Yes they appear to have attempted to hijack this election with rigged exit polls w/ the MSM and trial lawyers in tow (jackals).

This is par for these power hungry elitist bastards, and they aren’t going away. Notice The Nation’s Kristan Vanden Heuvel’s angry and defiant rant today on Hardball in response to W's win, calling for a leftist, nonpartisan Revolution over the next four years, or senile shill Cronkite telling Larry King on 10/29 that Rove called Bin Laden to send in his tape last week, or, Bill Moyer last night suggesting that Bush/Rove/RNC will stage a Coup, if they loose.

Truly sad people. We all have real problems (global) to solve now, and little time for their continuing BS.

Best line of the campaign? On 11/3/04: “Kerry should have realized that the global test starts at home”.

Neither will we go away, because we call the red states – Home!

The Goat.

Posted by: Tge Goat on November 4, 2004 04:09 AM

Mr. Rather says that we're supposed to start a drumbeat for a Kerry concession? That's not what the Karl Rove mind-control ray told ME! The voices in my head tell me to start a drumbeat for Mr. Rather's resignation. Mr. Rather is obviously not on Kenneth's frequency.

Islam reveres Him as a major prophet and messenger of the Lord, believes He performed miracles, and states that He will return to Earth to defeat the Antichrist.
