Bitch, Bitch, Bitch

Does Andrew Sullivan have anything to offer anymore except shrill partisan whining?

Just curious.

Of course he does. Sometimes, it's incoherent shrill partisan whining, mixed in with gratuitous ass-covering. And t-cell updates.

Posted by: Patton on October 18, 2004 08:34 PM

He liked "Team America." Other than that, not really.

It's not even the partisanship and endless carping on the administration and intellectually dishonest putdowns of fellow bloggers that really made him irrelevant. Not even linking to Daily Kos did that. IMO it was his being practically AWOL during Rathergate that sealed his fate. Given his resume, his silence on the issue was more deafening than that of the Times.

Bitchy is as Bitchie does !

Posted by: Vote Bush on October 18, 2004 08:49 PM

Ugh! It's astonishing, really, how quickly he has gone from being one of my favorite bloggers to someone I can barely tolerate reading. Seriously, I'm coming close to delinking his site.

And it's not just because he's turning against Bush. If he were to come out and say look, I was wrong, I've had a change of heart based on what I've seen over the past year, I could respect that.

But no. He's gone from (what I consider to be) Bush apologist to shrill, hysterical Kerry partisan seemingly overnight. I'm sorry, but I cannot fuckin' deal.

Posted by: Cynical Nation on October 18, 2004 09:03 PM

I was told that not only could I play my radio at a reasonable volume but that one of the other side benefits of your blog was I don't have to read Andy anymore -- you would take that one for the team.

Thanks by the way.

Posted by: capitano on October 18, 2004 09:06 PM

Sullivan! I remember him, used to have a blog. What ever happened to that guy?

Posted by: David [.net] on October 18, 2004 09:22 PM

Yeah, Andrew Sullivan, he's the guy who sold his soul for the chance at a Kerry-signed marriage license, right?

Posted by: JW on October 18, 2004 09:25 PM

Andrew who now?

Posted by: zetetic on October 18, 2004 09:31 PM

Delinked months ago- I guess I don't understand her nuanced thinking.

Posted by: jj shaka on October 18, 2004 10:06 PM

Not sure what Sullivan's middle initial is, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's "S".

BTW Ace, the link to Sullivan is broken. I'd ask you to fix it, but I think it's better this way. Really.

Posted by: John on October 18, 2004 10:07 PM

He gives us all something to mock and make fun of, that's something, isn't it? Jeff at beautifulatrocities.com has certainly been having fun...

Posted by: eric on October 18, 2004 10:27 PM

John, I'm sure that bad link's intentional.

Posted by: Moonbat_One on October 18, 2004 10:45 PM

It's sad, really, to see what was once such an interesting site degenerate; first into the gay marriage bulletin board, and then into foot-stamping anti-Bush hysterics. The site would still be useful if it was an alternate viewpoint. Instead it's from an alternate universe.

Does Andrew Sullivan have anything to offer anymore except shrill partisan whining?

"Anymore"...? :)

Posted by: Kent on October 19, 2004 12:19 AM

No.

So why do you bother?

Posted by: Bubba on October 19, 2004 01:20 AM

Sully Translation: "The rest of the Michael Gordon piece makes you want to weep: because of the promise in Iraq that was lost, because of a noble, vital war undermined by the Federal Marriage Act, er, I mean, arrogance and incompetence."

Posted by: Johnny Walker Red on October 19, 2004 01:37 AM

Face it. Sullivan's a Blogasaur. As in: old, passe, trite, predictable, irrelevant.

Harsh? Yeah.

True? Maybe.

Think about it. The blogosphere is extremely young but old enough now to fashion a pespective impossible to consider even two years ago.

Sullivan started his blog early and benefitted from his uniqueness/schtick, i.e., gay conservative (cough).

There's too much competition from too many blogs now.

He's a Blogasaur. His time has passed.

PS. I googled "blogasaur". Five hits. Damn, you, Frank J.

Posted by: The Black Republican on October 19, 2004 02:18 AM

Aw, why'd you even bother bringing him up? I actually bothered to take a look at his site again, and the answer to your question is a resounding "no."

I blame you, Ace, for several minutes of my life that I'll never get back.

Posted by: Sean M. on October 19, 2004 02:28 AM

I'm surprised he hasn't started channeling Daman Wayans' character from 10 years ago...

HATED It!

Posted by: OneDrummer on October 19, 2004 02:30 AM

Just checked Andy's site and was pretty appalled. He's quoting a CBS poll for cripes' sake and calling the obviously friggin' outlier poll result of a 44 percent approval rating bad news for the president.

What a jackass. A stupid, stupid jackass.

Posted by: Slubgob on October 19, 2004 09:22 AM

Andrew who?

Posted by: Larry J on October 19, 2004 09:27 AM

Does Sullivan have anything to offer?

His martyrdom! He is guiltier than any fundamIntalist Christian ever has been at trying to make his zealously religious views on homosexuality public policy. So he offers the sacrifice of his credibility on the altar of political orthodoxy.

Does he still blog?

Posted by: rdbrewer on October 19, 2004 10:44 AM

Heh. I got this error message repeatedly:

CommInt Submission Error
Your commInt submission failed for the following reasons:
Your commInt could not be submitted due to questionable content: mIn
Please correct the error in the form below, then press Post to post your commInt.

Finally I changed the spelling of "fundamIntalist." It posted. I guess the program doesn't approve of "mIn" and "Sullivan" in the same context.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.

Oof. Reviewers do not like Scary Movie 6. The criticism I keep hearing is that the movie mistakes a reference for an actual joke. The movie (they say) keeps Key Jangling a reference to another movie (or some other pop culture ephemera) and you expect there to be a joke but nope, the Key Jangle was the joke. Other reviewers say that the promise that "no lines will be uncrossed" is a fake-out, and that the movie is bland and inoffensively corporate.
Whoops! I posted about Dan Goldman losing the NY congressional primary. He might do that, but it won't be tonight -- the primary isn't held until June 23.
One race to keep an eye on: the Levi's heir nepo baby and egregious "Designated Liar" Dan Goldman -- one of the Democrats from a safe district Democrats send out to spread their most indefensible lies -- may actually lose his lower Manhattan/Brooklyn set due to, get this, antisemitism in the Democrat primary electorate.
Antisemitism? In the anti-Nazi Democrat Party? Sounds crazy, I know, but apparently the anti-Nazi Party wants to eliminate Jews.

Democrat Senator Rueben Gallego, who served his wife with divorce papers when she was nine months pregnant so that he could marry his side-piece, counsels us that we should not judge Graham Platner for his infidelity because these things are personal matters, Racists:

Sahil Kapur
@sahilkapur

Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., on Platner: "We know that Graham has lived not your typical political experience. He's been very clear and open with his wife, and they worked through whatever they worked through. At the end of the day, this man has had 60 more town halls than Susan Collins has. He's winning the polls, he's willing to accept that he has grown as a person, and I think we should accept that."

Gallego says the drip-drip of revelations won't harm Platner's campaign.

"I think you guys are all in a bubble here right now. The drip, drip that's actually happening is Americans are really, really hurt the fact that gas is still high, food is still high, they can't buy a home, you can't afford rent. They're not going to care about text messages and everything else like that that happened years ago, especially when it was worked out between spouses."

I like that he says that it's okay that Graham Platner sexted 12 different women within months of marrying the woman to sponge off her because he wasn't then "living a political life" -- the clear meaning being, "We all cheat, we just don't cheat when we're running for office, and he didn't know he was running for office when he was sending dicpics to half the women he ran into."
Except he was running: His own wife turned the sexts over to his campaign.
And obviously Reuben Gallego didn't let his "political life" get in the way of his extramarital dating life:
