Cheney got a pass on a very similar issue four years ago. See: http://www.tompaine.com/feature2.cfm/ID/3566
It would be nice to see this hurt Daschle, but it helps to keep straight which sauce goes on the goose and the gander (or which pot calls the other black... or [insert cliche here]).
(P.S. I am supporting Bush this election, as last time).
Anyone who has had to deal with cross border tax returns knows that each jurisdiction has its own rules, and generally recognizes no requirement that its rules should be consistent with those of a different jurisdiction.
You can thus easily wind up domiciled on more than one place (this one for the purposes of this tax, that one for the purpose of that tax or other piece of paperwork) even if you don't want to be.
Much as I dislike Daschle and much of what he stands for, I can see that this sort of mess must happen to people in Congress all the time, and as the Cheney example suggests on both sides of the aisle.
We could straighten all this out, but most likely at the expense of the Federalism (real ability for different jurisdictions to go their own ways) which is such a valued feature of our constitution. Tidy systems are not always the best systems, especially in politics. Better I think just to look the other way from time to time, as seems likely to happen here.
CORRECTION: I inadvertently reported that our NSA and CIA "intelligence" professionals were talking about "anal bleaching" in government checks while on the taxpayers' dime. In fact, they were discussing "butthole lasers."
"Butthole lasers" may be used for anal bleaching, but also for anal fistulas.
Laser treatments for the anus and rectum can be used for a variety of conditions, including hemorrhoids, fissures, and fistulas. Laser treatments can also be used for hair removal and anal bleaching.
I apologize to all "intelligence" professionals I maligned. I regret the error and vow to do better in the future.

I prefer the heat. I can always wear shorts and flip-flops if it gets hot. But when it's below freezing it's not like I can just put pants on.

More fraudulent journalism at CBS: 60 Minutes interviewed two people who lost their jobs as a result of DOGE overhauling USAID. Kristina Drye & Adam Dubard emoted on behalf of thousands of USAID employees who have been terminated, but neither Kristina nor Adam was actually an employee of USAID. Clever word parsing and dishonest editing conveyed otherwise. [Buck]
