New Blog on the Block

Frequent Ace of Spades HQ contributor and long-time correspondent Nicholas Kronos finally took my advice and started himself a blog.

Nick's a smart guy. Over at the Perfect World, I was constantly getting myself into trouble by making bold statements which I wasn't sure were actually, err, "factual" or not.

You see, like Reagan and Bush before me, I am a "big picture guy," unconcerned about the "details," with a penchant for "delegating" and relying on my charm, humor, and optimism to beguile the American public into thinking all sorts of crazy things that are exactly opposite their economic and political interests.

Fortunately, Nick Kronos was frequently able to provide these so-called "facts" I've heard so much about, just as I was about to admit that I really had no good idea what the hell I was talking about. He's saved me from embarassment on any number of occasions.

So, Nick's blog should be a good one. I suppose I should be upset to be losing such a valuable contributor. But I don't see as losing a contributor, so much as gaining a minion, plus another freaking link for The Truth Laid Bear ecosystem.

OT: Re: New Motto "New Format: Nothin' But Butt-Sex and Weiners"... like they say, write what you know. Since you took the dive and starting playing blue with that Wonketteish travelogue / spin on the reb brick floor of hell that you did a few weeks ago, this blog has been getting more and more comfortable with its latent desires. "I didn't know much about gay sex, except what I'd seen in movies based on terrible novels by Brett Easton Ellis." Oh tres coy!
...Not quite as much 'man-train action' over at this new link but the content's pretty good.

Schmoll: 53% of New Jersey likely voters say their neighbors are voting for Ciattarelli, while 47% say the cheater/grifter Mikie Sherrill
The "who do you think your neighbors are voting for" question is designed to avoid the Shy Tory problem, wherein conservative people lie to schmollsters because they don't want to go on record with a likely left-winger telling them who they're really voting for. So instead the question is who do you think your neighbors are voting for, so people can talk about who they themselves support without actually having to admit it to a left-wing rando stranger recording their answers on the phone.

Interesting football history: How the forward pass was created in response to the nineteen -- 19! -- people killed playing football in 1905 alone
The original rules of football did not allow forward passes. The ball was primarily advanced by running, with blockers forming lines with interlocked arms and just smashing into the similarly-interlocked defensive lines. It was basically Greek hoplite spear formations but with a semi-spherical ball. As calls to ban the sport entirely grew, some looked for ways to de-emphasize mass charges as the primary means of advancing the ball, and some specifically championed allowing a passer to throw the ball forward.

Atari to release former competitor Intellivision with 45 games for $149
I always thought Intellivision was kinda lame (to the extent a cutting edge videogame box can be lame).
Intellivision insists upon itself.
Pitfall was a really good game. I don't know if it was available on Intellivision. Update: It was. But I don't know if it's included in the new unit.
