Sadly, A "Very Large Number" of Sadrists Were Killed Last Night

He really said "sadly:"

BAGHDAD (AFP) - US-led forces killed a "very large number" of Shiite militiamen waging an uprising against coalition troops in overnight fighting in Baghdad and the holy city of Najaf, a senior military official confirmed.

He sadly confirmed that.

When asked how many militiamen were killed in 21 engagements in Baghdad's Sadr City and five in Najaf, Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt told a news conference: "sadly a very large number".

He then took our a tissue and began crying into it.

Pressed later by AFP, he put the total number killed at "less than 100," with "less than 30" killed in the Baghdad slum, which is a stronghold of radical cleric Moqtada Sadr's militia.

He said Wednesday that "less than 100" were killed in the Najaf fighting.

Planners were seen throwing themselves out of high Pentagon windows when they heard the sad news.

Coalition officials have made it clear they are determined to wipe out the Mehdi Army and bring the popular leader to justice over his alleged role in the murder of a rival cleric last year.

More out of sadness than anger, though.

Sad, sad, sad.

Cry, cry, cry.

that had to be a slip of the tongue.

That's right. Our troops don't go around gratuitously shooting Sadrists and then bragging about it in seedy non-com clubs. No we go around gratuitously shooting Sadrists and then agonizing about it for hours with our girl-friends... or to the media. And then we write novels about it. In crayon.

lauraw,

Yeah, I don't think he meant that. I think he was just required to not gloat about it, and, off the top of his head, he came up with the "sadly" formulation.

It's still sorta funny.

May,

That sounds like a bit from The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.

That is just so ... sad.

"Sadly a very large number of Sadrists were killed" But on the good side I havent seen any reports of U.S. Casualties. Yes, how unfortunate for the Sadrists that they are stupid enough to fuck with our Marines, how very sad (for them).

It is sad for the families of the Sadr loyalists. They lost their sons and brothers.

When an American soldier dies, it is sad too.

Death is sad.

Just because you disagree with the idea that Iraqis should have control over their own country, it doesn't mean that they are subhumans that should be killed en masse. Anybody dying in combat is sad. That's just a basic rule.

Did you ever read "All Quiet on the Western Front" by Erich Maria Remarque? Although he was technically our enemy at the time, reading about his 19 year old German friends getting shot was tragic, no matter what.

Unless you're saying that Iraqis don't deserve basic human respect.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
