"A Decent and Honorable Young Man..."

Remember John Walker Lindh? You know, the kid who fought alongside the Taliban in Afghanistan? His dad says it's time for the president to forgive the boy:

After years of silence, the father of American-born Taliban soldier John Walker Lindh said Thursday he has asked President Bush to grant his son clemency, adding that the then teenager never raised arms against the United States.

"In simple terms, this is the story of a decent and honorable young man embarked on a spiritual quest," said Frank Lindh, swallowing back tears at times during a speech at the Commonwealth Club, a nonprofit organization.

You know, my dad grounded me for a month when I accidentally broke the windshield of the family car when I threw a rock at a hornet's nest. If Lindh had been my dad, I probably would have been given forgiveness and a puppy.

Later in the article, Lindh talks about how proud he is of his son. That seems...odd. I would understand if Lindh said he loved his son, but pride seems like a strange emotion to feel for a boy who fought alongside extremists.

Who the heck wrote this post? Read on...

My name is Slublog. Okay, that's not my real name, but it works for me. I have my own blog, which I use to rant about politics. It keeps me from yelling at the television and annoying my wife, so it's a worthy hobby. I comment often on Ace's site and enjoy the debate.

I live in Maine, and work in higher education administration. I'm married, with a kid on the way and agree with Dave that the Burger King commercials are creepy.

I'm grateful to Ace for the opportunity to post here, and thanks to all of you for reading this.

The man's got it bad.

Lindh's dad actually had a fluff piece in the DC Bar Association magazine earlier in 2005. I couldn't be bothered to read the article, but it had all sorts of excepts about the blah blah blah of how we were friends with Al Qaeda (you know, we built them, cough) and junk like that.

I thought it was weird, yet appropriate that the presumably lefty DC Bar Ass. was flacking for the bad guys.

Its patriotic, you fuckers!

Set the boy loose. Let Mike Spamm's buddies in the covert section of the CIA practice on him.

Frank Lindh said his son thought he had been rescued by U.S. soldiers until he was taken into custody and tortured

Fuck that whole marin county, America-hating hippie liberal cocksucking family.
Mommie, daddy and lil' johnny should all hang.
Tortured? Fucking pigs, throwing that lie in there.
"Thought he had been rescued"??
Shit yeah, he was.
Should've greased him then and there, traitorous fuck.
Or let him rot in an Afghani prison with the rest of his "honorable" brethren.
"Bucolic marin county."
Liberal shithole produces scum like this.

Damn Hippie!

Damn. Hippie.

I feel sorry for him only in the sense that his parents did such a horrible horrible job in raising him. Why on earth would one allow their child to join some fucked up cult and not do a thing about it? I suspect he didn't go to Afganistan with out his parent's help. They paid his way. Like the Corries -- with out the parents picking up the tab, these kids who never held a job in their lives, would not gotten involved in this crap.

I dimly remember hearing a list of the books he requested during his trial. 'Autobiography of Malcolm X', something about Ghandi, etc. It's not that there is anything wrong with the parts, but the total speaks volumes. I laughed my ass off because of the utter predictability.

Hmm . . . if you're gonna be posting here, then can I guest blog at your site? It'll put me just one step closer to getting all of that crazy blog-traffic . . .

Hey, Slub, thank for posting here.

It's fun. I'm glad Ace gave me the opportunity.

I have to admit, though - it's really strange to see my writing on the front page.

Posted by: Slublog on January 19, 2006 11:17 PM

Funny how Christian parents let their kids become Muslim but if a child of Muslims wanted to become a Christian...

I think Lindh (the traitor) is a traitor and was an active combatant against the United States. He should be stripped of his citizenship and/or executed. We are in a time of war, after all.

Harsh? Yes. But necessary to make an example of him and to prevent him from doing any more damage.

Posted by: Muslihoon on January 19, 2006 11:55 PM

Oh, it gets even better. This week is "Islam Awareness Week" at Northwestern University. They even had a Q&A forum of people who converted to Islam, discussing their experiences with it and what not.

Do you think any other religion would receive such treatment?

Posted by: Hal on January 20, 2006 12:04 AM

Muslihoon -

You just don't understand Islam - maybe you should take some time to learn about it ;-)

Posted by: steve_in_hb on January 20, 2006 12:08 AM

Can't we all just get along?

Posted by: Cat Stevens on January 20, 2006 08:22 AM

He says it's "time for forgiveness", but apparently without first consulting the magical Forgiveness Groundhog.

So let's go see if he comes out of his hole and gives the signal.

Nothing... wait... I see motion... could the magical Forgiveness Groundhog be emerging to signal the approaching redemption of Johnny?? Motion... erm... nope... not coming out...

Sigh. Welp, looks like it is in fact not time for traitor boy to be "forgiven". Sorry Mr Traitor-Raiser, not this year. We'll come back next year and see if the ol' FG comes out of his hole then.

He is as nasty and as creepy as the freak in the ugly chicken mask in the crummy ad from last summer put on by BURGER KING

Posted by: spurwing plover on January 20, 2006 08:58 AM

This kid is the embodiment of the current DNC base -- Far left, anti-American, pro-Islamofascist, anti-capitalism, homosexual (product of whacked -out parents) from San Francisco.

John Walker Lindh is the poster child for the Dems!

I'd wanted to review Parts 2, 3, and 4 of Ryan Lizza's revenge posts about Olivia Nuzzi, but they're all paywalled. I thought about briefly subscribing to get at them, but then I read this in Part 2:
Remember the bamboo from Part 1?

Do I ever! It's all I remember!
Well, bamboo is actually a type of grass, and underground, it's all connected in a sprawling network, just like the parts of this story I never wanted to tell. I wish I hadn't been put in this position, that I didn't have to write about any of this, that I didn't have to subject myself or my loved ones to embarrassment and further loss of privacy.

We're back to the fucking bamboo. Guys, I don't think I can pay for bamboo ruminations.
I think he added that because he was embarrassed about all the bamboo imagery from Part 1. He's justifying his twin obsessions: His ex, and bamboo. Which is not a tree but a kind of grass, he'll have you know.
Olivia Nuzzi's crappy Sex and the City fanfic book isn't selling, says CNN (and CNN seems pretty pleased about that)
On Tuesday, the book arrived in stores. At lunchtime, in the Midtown Manhattan nexus of media and publishing, interest in Nuzzi's story seemed more muted. The Barnes and Noble on Fifth Avenue had seven copies tucked into a "New & Notable" rack next to the escalator, below Malala Yousafzai's "Finding My Way." Not many had sold so far, a store employee said.

A few blocks uptown, at a branch of the local independent chain McNally Jackson Books, a few volumes lay on a table of new and noteworthy nonfiction near the front of the store. No one was lining up to get them, or even browsing. Bookseller Alex Howe told CNN around 3 p.m. that though the store had procured "several dozen" copies, not a single one had yet sold -- a figure he said was surprising, considering how many people in media and publishing work in the area.

"We ordered a lot and so far, people have not been beating down the door," Howe said. "I'm not sure where we're gonna put them because right now, supply is outpacing demand." (A manager at McNally Jackson noted that Howe was speaking only in a personal capacity, not as a representative of the store.)

She trashes Ryan Lizza for his "Revenge Porn" here. Emily Jashinsky says that when the Bulwark's gay grifter Tim Miller asked why she didn't report on the (alleged) use of ketamine by RFKJr., she broke down in tears and asked to end the interview.
