As a member in good standing of the Whitey tribe, I would also like to complain that my numerous avenues of filthy lucre (government protections, Mommy & Daddy's untold wealth, etc.) have so far failed to pay off. This has got to be the only society in history where you can be "poor" and still afford two color televisions (with cable!), two cars, groceries (and not just staples), and clothes that even well-off people in the third world would envy. Even the homeless in America are better off than about 50% of the people in India or sub-Saharan Africa.

Think about it: illegal Mexican immigrants are willing to chance robbery, rape, and even death to get here -- just to make minimum wage at some menial job, most of which they send home. And it's still better than where they came from, by a long way.

I think Larry Elder wrote that if "Black America" were it's own country, it would have the 10th largest economy in the world. In the world. That's oppression? The middle class among blacks is sizable and keeps growing. The fact that some black neighborhoods in urban areas (and some rural) remain in perpetual squalor is hardly the fault of the white man. But it's much easier to couple racism with a victim complex and blame "rich whiteys" than it is to self evaluate and work towards something better.

Last summer I had a new roof put on my house. I contracted with the firm chosen by my insurance company (the new roof was required because of hail damage).

Turns out, the crew was all Hispanic. The only one who spoke English was the crew chief (female) who occasionally showed up to check on the work. I couldn't help but be impressed by how hard these guys were working in the baking hot summer sun. They were fast, they were efficient, and you could see if you watched them that they took pride in the quality of their work.

So I got a new roof. I doubt that any of those guys were in the country legally.

When I lived in Texas, I saw this all the time. Hispanics working their asses off, and doing a great job.

Yeah, I agree with that. I'm not at all threatened at the thought of people coming here looking to do good and I don't want them to be exploited for their efforts.

Racism does go both ways. Perhaps the more PC term wold be "racialisism," but it's the same thing. Is not "racism" basically "determining a person's character, importance, and stereotypes based on one's ethnicity/skin color"?

I feel sad that I can get away with making remarks that people with white skin cannot. I really feel sorry for people with white skin. You have to unnecessarily take so much dreck. The way I see it, if "Black Power!" is acceptable, so should "White Power!" be. And if there are African and Latino departments in universities, there should be European and Anglo-Saxon departments. Equality to people of all origins, including those of European extraction, who basically, y'know, built this Nation up.

My family has consistently had one belief: if someone doesn't like something here, they're welcome to go away. My parents immigrated here from South Asia. They love it here. Sure, we make racist jokes, but we lambast all groups, even our own. For those of our ethnicity (South Asian) who're fond of attacking people with white skin, Jews, or America, my mother says: "They should pack up and move back."

For the record, in all the time I have interacted with Americans and lived in the US, I have only once had a racist comment slung against me. (I was little. And confused: they told me to go back where I came from. But I came from the US, y'know. When I asked what the guys meant, my mother gave them a piece of her mind. Today, I find it amusing, really, rather than bothering.) And yet, I have heard racist remarks against people with white skin far more often than anything said or done by people of white skin against people with non-white skin.

Yes, there is a significant race problem in the US. And, sadly, we're not addressing even half of it. Every time a minority says he/she deserves something by virtue of his/her race, he/she is perpetuating racism and is, in fact, racist. And there is no benign racism.

For the record, I absolutely hate the phrase "people of color." Yes, my skin is not white. But isn't white also a color? And just because my skin isn't white doesn't mean I'm so different from people with white skin or so similar to other ethnicies. Whenever someone refers to me by that term - and it's always someone who is not white - a wave of rage sweeps through me. Why? Because I am not racist, and "people of color" is an inherently racist term. I don't care who calls me that: It. Does. Not. Describe. Who. I. Am. At. All.

Here's something that puzzles me: Egypt is considered to be part of Africa. Are Egyptian Americans, therefore, African Americans? Are they Arab Americans? If an Egyptian American applies for a job, can he/she get double affirmative action benefits, because he/she is African and Arab? Should African departments in universities teach Arabic also? :-) How much further can I mess up this situation?
