S.O.S. in Oklahoma

'Stop Over Spending' is a tremendous idea, and Oklahomans are petitioning to get this initiative on the ballot.

The Stop Over Spending (SOS) initiative places a cap on how much politicians can increase government spending. From year to year, the increases cannot be greater than inflation plus population growth. No cuts in spending are mandated, but the increases are capped. That is, unless the people of Oklahoma vote to let their state government spend more money, which they can do. The SOS Amendment thus puts government on a citizen-controlled diet.

State Senator Randy Brogdon of Owasso calls the measure "a true friend of taxpayers, a fuel for the economy and the enemy of the bureaucrats and big spenders." He points out that state government spending is growing four times faster this year than the income of the average Oklahoma household.

Wow. Keeping spending apace with growth and inflation. Draconian.

An article by Townhall contributor Paul Jacob explains how this effort which is actually quite popular with citizens is being undemocratically targeted by its opponents in the Oklahoma Education Association:

The message from Brenda Snider, the union's "membership accounts consultant," reads:

While you are shopping, going to the post office or sitting at a football game please be on the lookout for the petitioners. If you see a petitioner while shopping this weekend contact the malls at the numbers listed below and tell them that you are being bothered by their petitioning. Print a copy of the message and take it with you this weekend.

The natural result is that it is the petitioners, lawfully engaging in democratic activities, who are actually being harassed by Union members.
Tell me again who the brownshirts are?

This is what happens when zealots confront the reality that their agenda is wildly unpopular. Having no hope of success in a representative government, they must try to subvert the system itself.

I raise my coffee cup to the good people of Oklahoma, and wish them success in reclaiming ownership of their government and their wallets.
Wish my state had the same spirit.

Damn, if that's not a great conservative idea, someone smart's going to have to explain to me why not.

Like to see more Gov's get on board with that.

If I'm not mistaken, the state of Colorado had an identical law in place. It is going to be suspended in light of some urgent need or other.

I view these kind of laws dimly, not for their intent at restraining growth, but that we feel the need to resort to these measures in a government out of control. Further, as in the case of Colorado, they can side-step it whenever they feel they have to by voting it down.

The damned republicans don't offer a counter to the damnocrats, at all. The two positions are almost the same. The dems want to grow the already massive federal government even more while the republicans want to grow it just a little less.

PATHETIC.

Here in CO. they voted to suspend the TABOR amendment for 5 years, freeing up some 5 billion or so dollars. They did it by threatening schools, medicare, and roads. They could have saved the same amount if they had just cracked down on illegal immigration. My state is becoming more and more blue every year. California has become such a joke that even the moderate lefts are leaving and coming here to ruin for the rest of us.

It bears repeating: Nazis are socialists. Lefties are socialists. Unions are socialist to the core. Unions are so much closer to Nazis than the most radical fringe of the right, they look like social siamese twins, especially when it comes to repressing ideas anathema to their own.

Want to help destroy America? Join a union. The members are generally just Joe America-types. They pay for the loony leaders, and the loony leaders would like nothing more than to see our system of representative government and economic system of playtime capitalism destroyed.

Any state wise enough to pass a TABOR law, then lets it get gutted by the politicians deserves what it gets. I already live in a solid blue state, and the political hacks here will never figure out why our unemployment rate is near the highest in the nation, why companies are leaving the state in droves, and why 3/4 of the state hates the State of Portland (Oregon), where the whores of Hawthorne play fast and loose with any laws they don't like.

I agree with the idea of SOS, but wonder how well known it is. I've never heard of it and I probably pay more attention to state politics than my average fellow Oklahoman. Hopefully it's not something that's only getting covered on talk radio and union websites. If I run into a petitioner I'll give them a signature.

Kind of on topic: Oklahoma collected too much income tax last year. Everybody that paid last year is getting a $45 check this month as a rebate.

dbs, no way!!!!! i lived there for years and usually complained about the income tax system. we ALWAYS had to pay come filing time (could usually use the fed refund to cover it). one time it was only a dollar, but still. most interesting.

DBS,
I just got my 90 dollar check in the mail (i'm HoH) I remember the debate to identify what we would spend the money on, and can recall the teacher's union begging for that money as well.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.

Oof. Reviewers do not like Scary Movie 6. The criticism I keep hearing is that the movie mistakes a reference for an actual joke. The movie (they say) keeps Key Jangling a reference to another movie (or some other pop culture ephemera) and you expect there to be a joke but nope, the Key Jangle was the joke. Other reviewers say that the promise that "no lines will be uncrossed" is a fake-out, and that the movie is bland and inoffensively corporate.
Whoops! I posted about Dan Goldman losing the NY congressional primary. He might do that, but it won't be tonight -- the primary isn't held until June 23.
One race to keep an eye on: the Levi's heir nepo baby and egregious "Designated Liar" Dan Goldman -- one of the Democrats from a safe district Democrats send out to spread their most indefensible lies -- may actually lose his lower Manhattan/Brooklyn set due to, get this, antisemitism in the Democrat primary electorate.
Antisemitism? In the anti-Nazi Democrat Party? Sounds crazy, I know, but apparently the anti-Nazi Party wants to eliminate Jews.

Democrat Senator Rueben Gallego, who served his wife with divorce papers when she was nine months pregnant so that he could marry his side-piece, counsels us that we should not judge Graham Platner for his infidelity because these things are personal matters, Racists:

Sahil Kapur
@sahilkapur

Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., on Platner: "We know that Graham has lived not your typical political experience. He's been very clear and open with his wife, and they worked through whatever they worked through. At the end of the day, this man has had 60 more town halls than Susan Collins has. He's winning the polls, he's willing to accept that he has grown as a person, and I think we should accept that."

Gallego says the drip-drip of revelations won't harm Platner's campaign.

"I think you guys are all in a bubble here right now. The drip, drip that's actually happening is Americans are really, really hurt the fact that gas is still high, food is still high, they can't buy a home, you can't afford rent. They're not going to care about text messages and everything else like that that happened years ago, especially when it was worked out between spouses."

I like that he says that it's okay that Graham Platner sexted 12 different women within months of marrying the woman to sponge off her because he wasn't then "living a political life" -- the clear meaning being, "We all cheat, we just don't cheat when we're running for office, and he didn't know he was running for office when he was sending dicpics to half the women he ran into."
Except he was running: His own wife turned the sexts over to his campaign.
And obviously Reuben Gallego didn't let his "political life" get in the way of his extramarital dating life:
