French Rap Makes You Torch Cars

I'm surprised it took them this long to find a suitable scapegoat.

Mr Grosdidier, a member of President Jacques Chirac's conservative ruling UMP party, said songs like Monsieur R's FranSSe incite racism and hatred, and should be banned from radio play.

He told France-Info: "When people hear this all day long and when these words swirl round in their heads, it is no surprise that they then see red as soon as they walk past policemen or simply people who are different from them."

I guess someone in a country with state-controlled media would know, eh?

Also: How weak of a friggin' gangsta rap name is 'Monsieur R?'
What are you gonna do, shoot me with a truffle-gun? Treat me rudely, and serve my soup to me a few degrees too cold?

Dude. That's like calling yourself 'Pastry Chef D.'
Sincerely. Not tough.

UPDATE: French gangsta rapper 'Nonpareil C' found murdered by the River Seine. Initial police report indicates Death by Chocolate.

Ya but he names his songs FranSSe, implying the French are like the S S.
But who isn't like the SS these days? Or fascists?
Monsieur R is speaking truth to power.

It seems to me - please correct me if I'm wrong -- that France's conservative party has all the bad traits of our Republican party and all the bad traits of the our Democratic party. That means Jacque Chirac is a mixture of Ted Kennedy and Arlen Specter. No?

Posted by: Bart on November 24, 2005 10:25 PM

David Brooks tried to be hip on this topic, and wound up citing lyrics that were 15-20 years old...

It inspired a great takedown column by someone who actually knew a hell of a lot about French rap -- I think it was in The Nation.

Anyway, the idea that all French are wusses accustomed to over-rarified luxury... it's just dumb.

Plenty of rude boys living rough on the streets of Paris.

anybody got a light?

Posted by: Dave in Paris on November 24, 2005 11:32 PM

The mainstream French, yeah, they're generally a bunch of wusses. If it were otherwise, the young punks torching cars would have been taken down a long time ago. Remember, these are the descendants of the generations which surrendered to the Germans, and lost to the Algerians and Vietnamese. They have no justified pride in themselves, and deep down, they may even know it.

As for anyone bothering to know "a hell of a lot about French rap," how sad of a life do you have to lead in order to achieve that?

Monsieur R is speaking truth to power.

In France?

Posted by: VRWC Agent on November 24, 2005 11:54 PM

The mainstream French, yeah, they're generally a bunch of wusses.

Know anything about the French in Algeria?

and lost to the Algerians and Vietnamese.

Anyone catch the irony about losing to the Vietnamese?

I couldn't make this stuff up. Keep it up, Eric!

Posted by: tubino on November 24, 2005 11:56 PM

A mixture of Ted Kennedy and Arlen Specter would get you Joe Biden. A mixture of Nancy Pelosi and a Pepé Le Pew gets you Jaques Chirac.

Posted by: Planet Moron on November 24, 2005 11:59 PM

The mainstream French, yeah, they're generally a bunch of wusses

Who thinks that French rap is the product of mainstream French, anyway? Is that what you think about rap in the US?

Isn't the idea of the joke that the French don't know anything about the kind of conditions that created rap in the US, because they are all pampered wusses?

As if there is no social stratification in France.

Posted by: on November 25, 2005 12:01 AM

Um, not for anything, but don't you see how my asshole brother just sucked you dummies into an argument?

Oh, and the poster with no name is also Tubino.

Um, not for anything, but don't you see how my asshole brother just sucked you dummies into an argument?

Yup. I see. Well done, in my opinion.

While we are on the subject of French pussies, notice how the Canadian government shake-up is getting almost zero media coverage?

The news about Jessica Simpson and that guy she married is getting more press. The Macy's parade floats are getting more air time.

Why?

Because nobody cares what happens in Canada.
Canada is inconsequential country with inconsequential people living in it.

Yet, in Canada the media is dominated with news of America. The same goes for those little Europeon countries like Finland, Norway, and Sweden. Nothing happens there; life is boring; they're all jealous of America. To make themselves feel better for being losers they spend most of their time convincing each other they are socially and morally superior to Americans. And Americans are fat, too. Stupid and fat.

Fucking ninnies.

Tubino you dickhead, we didn't lose in Vietnam. The Democrats made us quit.

The French were actually defeated on the battlefield.

Posted by: Lloyd on November 25, 2005 01:19 AM

Lloyd, I assume you have been reading a while so let me offer a few questions about feeding our troll:

Do you really think he's worked through his position with intellectual honesty?

Do you really think his position will change if you lay the relevant facts and logic out for him?

Do you think his position has anything to do with facts and logic?

In light of the foregoing, why do you think he is posting?

Tubino you dickhead, we didn't lose in Vietnam. The Democrats made us quit.

I laugh at your ignorance.
Who was elected President in 1968?

How tied were Nixon's hands, considering he was able to secretly bomb Cambodia, with no Congressional oversight?

Who ran on a platform of getting the US out of Vietnam? TIP: be sure to include Milhous in your answer.

Note for contemporary relevance: What percentage of the US turned against the war in Vietnam? What percentage now believes the Cheney administration MISLED the US into the war, and now believes iit was mistake?

Posted by: tubino on November 25, 2005 08:03 AM

tub-jizz-on-face-ino:

Nixon tried to win it (and could have) with tactics like bombing Hanoi and attacking NVA sanctuaries in Cambodia. But the American left ("Democrats") squealed like you on a Saturday night (obviously with a dick up your ass). In Democratic ("make the US military fight with one hand tied behind its back") logic, the NVA could attack us from Cambodia, but we couldn't attack them back there.

We signed a peace treaty in 1973, for which Kissinger and Le Duc Tho won Noble prizes, that maintained the status quo of two Vietnams (our original objective in entering Vietnam in the first place).

Then we withdrew, undefeated on the battlefield, with a 20 to 1 kill ratio.

When North Vietnam promptly and predictably pissed on the treaty and invaded South Vietnam, the Democratic controlled Congress made us sit on our hands and watch our former allies get overrun.

We did not lose in Vietnam. But France did.

Now go ahead and laugh at my ignorance.

Posted by: Lloyd on November 25, 2005 10:26 AM

"It seems to me - please correct me if I'm wrong -- that France's conservative party has all the bad traits of our Republican party and all the bad traits of the our Democratic party."

Over-simplified, Bart. The equivalent of the Republican right wing is in the Front National.

Posted by: alistair on November 25, 2005 12:57 PM

alistair, I call Bullshit - the FN is David Duke land. Chirac's "conservative" party is at its most conservative, like Jim Jeffords. France has no truly "conservative" party.

Posted by: holdfas on November 25, 2005 01:18 PM

Now my asshole brother is posting as "alistair."
Poor kid, he knows not of what he does.

Posted by: Tubino's brother on November 25, 2005 06:18 PM

Um. French rap does make you torch cars. I thought this was common knowledge.

Posted by: rd on November 25, 2005 07:24 PM

Uh oh, rd. I may have to issue a correction?
Wouldn't be the first time.

Do you have a cite?

(If they've proved this through controlled experiments on rhesus monkeys, I may have to rethink my approval of animal testing.)

Posted by: lauraw on November 25, 2005 08:22 PM

I thought French rap made you burn out your own eardrums with red-hot brands* to end the pain.

Oh, wait. American rap does that, too.

(*why the heck is the word "p-o-k-e-r-s" blocked by the filter?!?)

Posted by: Xoxotl on November 25, 2005 10:52 PM

I know I shouldn't feed the troll...

Tubino,

Of course the French are wusses. Please explain how hundreds of them ended up being handcuffed by Bosnian Serb forces and used as human shields when they were part of UNPROFOR without a shot being fired. I remember an interview of a French colonel scoffing at the idea of fighting back, something about not wanting to die for peace...

Apparently, they had orders not to fire unless fired upon, so the Serbs walked up to them with handcuffs and the French, natural bureaucrats to the end, took their orders a little too literally.

This was the French Army, not the regular citizenry. Does anyone seriously believe that the mainstream French public has a stronger backbone than its army?

Posted by: EricTheRed21 on November 26, 2005 12:17 AM

Eric, its such a silly post for him to have responded to, anyway.
I don't actually believe that 'french' gangsters are less murderous than any other brand.

But it had to show up and disturb some shit because that is its nature.

Posted by: lauraw on November 26, 2005 09:40 AM

Are these "rappeurs" taking back the word "grenouille" for their people?

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
