Update On Hotel-Bombing As Disguised Assassination

The Purple Avenger strikes again, noting that...

The Palestinian Special Forces, under the command of the Bashir Nafeh - also a member of the unofficial "disengagement talks" - have logged a number of key arrests lately, some in coordination with the IDF and the Shin Bet.

Purple Avenger speculates that the other two bombings were merely cover to hide the actual target of the strike.

It would explain what is otherwise baffling-- killing scores of Jordanians for no very good reason except to make another group of people hate Al Qaeda. Although, to be fair, that seems to be Al Qaeda's whole gig.

Premature? Coincidence morphing into conspiracy? I don't know, but it is interesting.

Thanks to cutaway.

I think some of the conspiracy thinking comes from disbelief that a person would just walk in on a wedding and blow themselves up.

But interviews with terrorists and terrorist handlers show that is exactly the kind of thing they have done repeatedly, happening to choose a particular bus or cafe on sudden whim at the time. I'm not dismissing the conspiracy, but I don't think people should dismiss the randomness of the attack either. Not that it was entirely random...

Well, we know there was *some* sort of conspiracy at work in this case - the sort that gets 3 'splodeydopes coordinated at the same time, anyhow. So the targets weren't just random.

I think Zarqawi knows his days in Iraq are numbered, and is looking to retrench and set up a new base in Gaza. Which, long-term, looks somewhat suicidal, as it essentially means adding Israel to the list of "people who want you dead," and the Israelis don't mess around.

All that said, it's certainly not the only possibility. It could be the operation's goal was as simple as "Intimidate Jordan." Which apparently didn't work, but neither does much else al Qaeda tries these days.

Of course the coordination could have ended at the timing and hotel dropoff, leaving the bombers themselves to seek whatever grouping seemed opportune to them once inside.

Lost Seventies Mystery Click: The Darkest Song Ever Recorded?
I think Professor of Rock (on YouTube) claimed this song was so upsetting that people used to pull over to the side of the road when it came on the radio. It's about a fatal plane crash, but obviously it suggests a fatal car crash too, which could wig out a driver.
It's like one of those nasty 70s anti-war body horror movies. Not for the squeamish. I'm not even going to post the lyrics because they're upsetting too.

I'm frankly surprised the title is 107 Days. I would have thought it would be:

Days Are Important: The Amount of Days Was a Number and That Number Was 100 Plus 7 Which is 107. 107. One Hundred and Seven. It's a Memoir and Memoirs are About Remembering Things Because Remembering Things is Good. Not Bad. Good. Memoir. A Memoir. Like a Reservoir But With Memory. We Have to Let it Flow. We Have to Let It Flow Into the Reservoir of Our Mind and Our Heart. Our Heart Which is the Beating Heart of Not Just Our Blood, But Our Progress. And Our People. And Democracy. The End.
