Iran's Supreme Ruler Not So Supreme?

A government-encouraged rally against the Italian embassy drew "many" students.

How many? Several dozen.

Embarassing, eh? So the government claimed...

...it had not given the green light for the manifestation to be held. This is a somewhat curious statement, given the rigid control imposed on any public meeting in Teheran, not to mention the presence of members of the forces of order, who did nothing to prevent the event.

And there's actually vocal internal dissent against this thug:

Mohammad Khatami and Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, two former reformist presidents, are openly critical of his policies. On Sunday, Mr Khatami accused the new leader of “using fascist values and principles in the name of Islam to criticise liberalism”. Mohammad Atrianfar, a close Rafsanjani ally, yesterday called the sackings a big diplomatic mistake. “The President does not understand that he should proceed with caution,” he said.

I used to be in the restaurant business during the 80's, after the fall of the Shah, and I worked with a lot of expatriate Persians. Logic was not their strong suit, even the intellectual guys. And they would scream at you and you could scream at them and share a joint 10 minutes later. No grudges.

But just try calling them cowards--they would fight Tyson if he called them pussies. And since it's time for the moderate elements in Iran to get off the dime and get rid of their extremist mullahs I have something to share with them.

I was standing behind the walk-in changing my shirt and I heard Mahmoud say you were a pussy to the salad girl. He said he would have been tossed already if you guys weren't such a pack of gaping snappers.
