Whoa: DHS Chief Vows To "Expel Every Illegal (Alien) Entrant"Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said his department aims without exception to expel all those who enter the United States illegally. posted by Ace at 01:43 PM

Do you realize what this would do to the price of California GRAPES? And what it would to the wages of everyone working LEGALLY? Just you watch. This "steely resolve" won't last two news cycles. A lot of powerful people benefit from having illegal immigrants in the labor market. Posted by: tubino on October 18, 2005 01:52 PM
I want to believe... Posted by: apotheosis on October 18, 2005 01:54 PM
"And what it would to the wages of everyone working LEGALLY?" Er, by 'everyone', I mean everyone who works in the labor market alongside illegal immigrants. oops. Posted by: tubino on October 18, 2005 01:54 PM
How long until his resignation is called for? This is obviously racist. /sarcasm I second apotheosis' comment Posted by: brak on October 18, 2005 02:08 PM
This'll never happen, but it's sweet music to my ears. While we're at it, put up a wall all along the US/Mexico border complete with motion-sensors and cameras. The main problem, of course, is that about 20% of the Latino population of the Southwest is there illegally. Can you imagine the outcry if we tried to deport those illegals back to Mexico? Every Liberal both here and aborad would start screaming "Nazi", and Latino-majority cities like L.A. would simply explode. You'd need to use the National Guard to enforce this (or grandfather in every illegal who's already here, which kind of defeats the whole point). And the Mexican politicians would a) shit their collective pants, and b) pull out all the stops to keep the deportation from happening. Almost half of Mexico's GDP comes from illegals employed in the US -- if that revenue stream goes kaput, so does Mexico's economy (and in a big way). The Mexican government has for decades relied on the US "safety valve" to save them from having to reform their own corrupt and useless federal government. But hey: we ought to at least try. What the hell does citizenship mean if we don't try to enforce immigration controls? And what does it say to all the foreign-born immigrants who get in the legal way? Posted by: Monty on October 18, 2005 02:10 PM
Yes, I was just pulling your leg.
Posted by: Michael Chertoff on October 18, 2005 02:18 PM
It's kind of nice (and tremendously sad) that, for the first time since GWB took office, someone in his administration has at least acknowledged that our immigration laws are worth enforcing. And of course it will never happen. Posted by: Sobek on October 18, 2005 02:44 PM
I still say we're putting the leverage on the wrong side of the equation. Fine employers, say, $100 a day for every "undocumented" worker on the payroll, and the jobs would dry up quick. No jobs (and for chrissakes, no welfare), no illegals. Or at least force them to get really good forged credentials. Posted by: S. Weasel on October 18, 2005 02:51 PM
If we crack down on employing illegal immigrants, then the employers will get together and lobby to raise immigration quotas for legal immigrants. This will drive up wages and costs a little bit, but not much. It will also improve US security, and the working conditions and legal rights of Mexican laborers. I'm very "pro-immigrant". My parents are immigrants. I'm all in favor of letting more people into the country. But it has to be on the books. Illegal immigration is ultimately bad for everyone. It's undermining rule of law and it's creating a caste system which is fueling racial discord. Posted by: SJKevin on October 18, 2005 03:20 PM
"No jobs (and for chrissakes, no welfare), no illegals." Ah, S. Weasel is apparently unaware that, according to the Supreme Court, you can't discriminate on the grounds of citizenship. I've never been able to find that clause, myself, but it's gotta be there somewhere... Posted by: Sobek on October 18, 2005 03:30 PM
Weasel says, "I still say we're putting the leverage on the wrong side of the equation. Fine employers, say, $100 a day for every "undocumented" worker on the payroll, and the jobs would dry up quick. " Yup. Now who do you think has more political clout, the employers or the unions? Now you know why it won't ever happen. And that goes double under republicans. Posted by: tubino on October 18, 2005 04:51 PM
Hey. He's not talking about the 10-15 million illegal aliens already here. He's just talking about the "catch and release" policy in effect for non-Mexican crossers. They're never going to do anything about those already in residence. Here's a quote from the article. Read the whole thing. "Through a comprehensive approach, we are moving to end this 'catch and release' style of border enforcement by reengineering our detention and removal process." Posted by: rls on October 18, 2005 05:45 PM
We send ELIEN GOZALAS back to the tyranical country of CUBA then they allow thousands of illeagl aleins in with who knows how many AL QUEDA comming over with them what do you call this? Posted by: spurwing plover on October 18, 2005 11:26 PM
I'll believe it when I see it. Granted, we do need to get serious about illegal immigration in general, and our open borders in particular. I would like to see the Mexican border sealed properly - mines, barbed wire, guard towers, automated machine guns, the works. However: 1. Republican politicians like the idea of cheap labor and So, don't get your hopes up. This sounds like the administration tossing a rubber bone to us conservatives. "It's f**king f**ked."
-- reportedly a genuine comment offered by a "senior Labour source" Correction: I wrote that Labour is losing 88% (now 87%) of the seats it is "defending." I think that's wrong. The right way to say it is the seats they are contesting -- that is, they don't necessarily already hold these seats, but they have put up a candidate to run for the seat. It's still very bad but not as bad as losing 87% of the seats they already held. Basil the Great
"The end of the two party system in the UK" as first the Fake Conservatives and now Labour chooses political suicide rather than simply STOPPING THE INVASION
Incidentally, the only reason this didn't already happen in the US is because of the Very Bad Orange Man (who is right on 85% of all policy calls and extremely, existentially right on 15% of them)
No political party that is NOT also a doomsday religious cult would EVER choose a cataclysmic loss -- and possible extinction as a party -- to support a toxically unpopular favoritism of NON-CITIZEN ILLEGAL MIGRANTS over actual citizen voters.
Only a cult does this.
Now they've lost 84%.
Annunziata Rees-Mogg Update: They've now lost 88% of the seats they're defending. As I mentioned earlier, I think I heard that London will not bail them out, as many of those Labour seats will probably flip to "Muslim Independent" or Green. Detroit's 5am vote will not save them.
Yup, Labour is losing 80% of its seats...
The British Patriot Wow, up to 1700-2100 seats. It's not incredible that this is happening. It's incredible that the Davos crowd is so absolutely determined to privilege Muslim "migrants" over the actual native population who elects them, no matter how loudly the natives scream that they want to be prioritized, that they will gladly self-extinguish as a party rather than simply representing the interests of their own voters. Astonishing. Remember, when they call other people "cultists" -- they are the ones so imprisoned in their social reinforcement and discipline bubbles that they will choose political death rather than dare upset the Karen Enforcement Officers of their cult. Update: Now they've lost 83% of the seats they were defending. (((Dan Hodges))) Nick Lowles
STARMERGEDDON: In early returns, Reform gains 135 seats, Labour loses 90, the Fake Conservatives lose 36 (and I didn't even know they could fall any further), the Lib Dems lose 4, and the Greens gain 6. Note that the only other party gaining seats is the Greens and they're only gaining a handful of seats.
Update: Reform now up 145, Labour down 98. Labour projected to lose Wales -- where they've ruled for 27 years. Fulton County Georgia just discovered 400 boxes of ballots for Labour Update: REF +156, LAB -107, CON -45 Brutal: In four out of five council seats where Labour is defending, they've lost. 80%. I'm sure it's not this simple, but Reform is straight taking Labour's and the "Conservatives'" seats. They've lost almost exactly what Reform gained. If understand this right (and warning, I probably don't), all of London's council seats are up for election, and Labour might lose hugely there, as their old voters abandon them for Reform, Muslim Indenpendents, and the Greens. REF +190, LAB -134, CON -56.
Updates on the Labour collapse in council elections -- which wags are calling #Starmergeddon -- from Beege Welborne. There are about 5000 seats up for grabs, Labour is expected to lose 1,800, Reform will probably gain 1,580, up from... zero. So this would be more than that.
People claim that while Labour has adopted the Sharia Agenda to appeal to the million Muslims it allowed to migrate to the country, those voters are ditching Labour to vote for the Muslim Independent Party or the Greens. Delicious. This shadenfreude is going straight to my thighs. Oh, and if Starmer loses about as badly as expected, Labour will toss him out of a window Braveheart style and replace him. He will announce he is resigning to spend more time with his Gay Ukrainian Male Prostitutes.
Media bias and senationalism are as old as, well, the media:
![]() That was written by Denny O'Neill and illustrated by, get this, Frank Miller. Editor to the Stars Jim Shooter was in charge at the time. I always thought the gag was original to the comic book, but in fact the "Threat or Menace" headline was a satirical joke about media bias and sensationalism for a long while. The Harvard Lampoon used it in a parody of Life magazine: "Flying Saucers: Threat or Menace?"
