NYT's Public Editor Continues Being a Dick

And that's just jake by me.

He slams TV critic Alessandra Staley for incorrectly reporting that Geraldo Rivera "nudged" military personnel out of the way in order to help a wheelchair bound woman down some stairs. The tape simply shows no "nudge" at all; top Times honcho Bill Keller seems to be claiming that he "metaphorically nudged" people aside through grandstanding, and that's good enough to be reported as a literal, physical nudge, without correction.

He repeats that the Times is not enforcing its corrections policy as regards its editorial page's finest left-wing blogger in print format, Paul Krugman.

And then he notes that the Times, which has a policy now of posting substantive corrections in a "Corrections" column where minor errata (mispelled names, incorrect titles, etc.) are listed in a "For the Record" column, seems to be slipping quite a few substantive, important corrections into the "For the Record" list.

Thereby covering up how many big, important errors they actual make.

On f'n' fire. On. F'n'. Fire.

This guy has clearly crossed the line -- he's gone beyond pesky irritant to outright sedition and armed revolt.

He's going to need a food taster and have his car checked for bombs every time he starts it.

If you are willing to routinely lie to the world -- AND suffer the public economic penalties for doing it, what would prevent you from just spending another $50K to have this guy whacked by a pro to shut him up?

After all, we are dealing with people for whom ethical behavior is a completely foreign concept. I've always felt that integrity is like virginity - easy to loose, very hard to regain.

Not that anyone would ever accuse me of having integrity of course, I'm thoroughly corrupt through and through, but just saying...

I just love Alessandra Stanley's reasoning that since Geraldo acted badly after the article she was justified in claiming that he acted bad before the article. With that kind of justification at work here she would have had no right to complain if Geraldo had called her out for a street fight weeks before Katrina hit.

and the "fake but accurate" goes on...

Well, at least one person can see the NYT's growing irrelevance. Nice job Byron.

Could it be time for another of Ace's fabulous Top ten lists?
and where, oh, where, is the list of signs that Bob Dole is on frickin' fire?

Apparently in the Times' alternate universe, crap like this ( which has become routine), and diving profits and layoffs are mutually exclusive events.
NYT to shareholders: "For the greater good your sacrifice shall be noted".
Sound of gunshot.

Mr. Calame sounds like an honest man. Therefore, he'll be sacked.

At least the Times policy is consistent.

Members of the media are drinking their own bathwater. My hope is that their credibility is completely gone before they realize that they are leaving a documentable trail.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
