Canada: Safe Haven for America's Gay Doctors

Canada’s set themselves up a nice little medical system outside those passing twin fancies of American economic thought, “supply” and “demand,” paying Ontario doctors about half what they make in the U.S.

The bizarro-world result: "Ontario is short almost 2,200 physicians, leaving almost 1.2 million patients without access to a doctor."

Who’da guessed.

And the solution?

Ontario will attempt to lure disgruntled gay and lesbian U.S. medical professionals to the province, Health Minister George Smitherman said yesterday…

[Silverman] said the province was capitalizing on Canada's image for left-leaning values - which includes gay marriage legislation.

Yep, Canada skips the market reforms, attempting instead to stir up shit and further drive a stake between gay Americans and their country over cultural issues.

The campaign’s next stage:

African-American Doctors: Consider relocating to Canada. Y’know… before all the lynching starts up again.

Canada. We don’t lynch doctors.

(Because in your heart, you know it’s just a matter of time.)

Are they going to give immigrant doctors tax breaks? Who wants to be taxed to death in Canada? And who wants to move to the boonies? They'll all want to live in Toronto. Do they think gay professionals are going to sacrifice half their pay for a little gold ring? This seems like a real dumb idea. But, hey, my neighbor has just decided to move to canada b/c all the film roles are up there.

Increasing supply is easy -- lower quality.

Opening soon - Dr. Tony's school of medicine and foreign car repair.

Based on the principle that anyone with a heartbeat can be a brain surgeon if they try hard enough and have good self-esteem and know how to operate a torque wrench. Conventional medical arts are unaware that carburator cleaner is a wonderful operating room disinfectant. This and many other "conventional" medical orthodoxies are shattered in this revolutionary 90 day become a doctor and brake technician program.

Wow.
What a coincidence.
Just yesterday, a Gay Bigfoot Doctor friend of mine mentioned how fed up he was with the US, and that he was thinking of moving to Canada, specifically the Lake Okanagan area of BC. He's been seeing the Ogopogo (Lake Okanagan's version of the Loch Ness Monster http://sunnyokanagan.com/ogopogo/), and they seem to be getting serious.
My friend referred to Canada's left-leaning gay-interspecies marriage legislation as a big factor in his decision making process...

I hear Cuba has about 1500 doctors who don't have much to do right now.

[Silverman] said the province was capitalizing on Canada's image for left-leaning values

Uh, lefties don't want to move to a country that their policies have already ruined, they want to ruin this country. Duh.

Good point, lauraw. Anyway, this kind of reminds me of how Zimbabwe (I think) wanted to bring in westerners to work on their farms. The lure: since so many of us in the developed world are overweight, we can come to the farms in Zimbabwe and work off our fat.

I'm pretty sure this was real, and I also think I first heard about it on the Ace of Spades HQ.

They do need doctors besides proctologists, right?

...and, here I was worried about getting having my annual physical (with prostate exam) too close to San Francisco...

At least it's not further north.

I just knew this was going to happen. . . all the bathhouses will be converted to doctor's offices. But seriously. . . I live in chatham ontario, and don't have a doctor (my choice). The toronto point is probably true, most small towns won't be where the doctor's want to live, even with the luring incentives (my money) the provincial goverment trys to use. Many small town citizens will have to make a choice. . .to have a gay/lesbian doctor. . .or no doctor at all. Oh by the way, can anyone help me out of this backward left-wing hellhole called Canaduh?

Posted by: David Ryan on September 24, 2005 10:50 PM

Nothin new here -- look in the back of the Advocate or any other american magazine for gays, and you'll see plenty of advertisements from Canadian immigration lawyers -- some from the Canadian government itself -- basically saying "Come to Canada! We're queer as a three dollar bill!"

Uncle Jefe, before you doctor friend moves to Canada, he should take a squint at The Barbarian Invasions - specifically at the first five minutes, which walks the viewer through a Montreal hospital. Granted, it's a comic film; but my friends who practice medicine in Canada tell me that it's not much of an exaggeration.

If your friend thinks that dealing with insurance companies is rough here, he should imagine what it would be like if there were only one insurance company and it ran all the hospitals. That's Canadian medicine in a nutshell. Small wonder that for each American doctor who emigrates to Canada, 19 Canadian doctors emigrate to the US.

" for each American doctor who emigrates to Canada, 19 Canadian doctors emigrate to the US."

Aw, jeez, and that single doc coming up here to Canada must be one dumb cluck. He's probably the guy I'll get stuck with next time I need a doctor.

Yeah, but on the bright side, he'll actually enjoy that "turn your head and cough" thing.

When your doctor does a prostate exam, is he supposed to have both hands on your shoulders?

Posted by: zetetic on September 25, 2005 06:54 PM

The last time I saw any stats (a few years ago) it was estimated the largest illegal alien population in south FL was Canadians.

The figure was something like 150,000 of them who came down for a "vacation" and decided to stay. I personally know 3 of them.

For some (obviously unfathomable) reason they found notion of keeping most of the money they were earning attractive.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
