Linked By... Andrew Sullivan?

Okay, it's one of those "here, here, here, and here" slinks (shit-links), but whatever.

I will not be ignored, baby.

And it's long overdue. After all, I've linked him once or twice myself.

Thanks to Allah for the tip, who asks if this is one of the seven seals of the Apocalypse.

How do you get linked by Andrew Sullivan? Same way you get mentioned on CNN's Inside Politics-- say something bad about Bush and/or Republicans.

Do you feel.......dirty? :)

He linked me a few times last year and once called me ... "irrepressible."

It haunts me to this day.

Posted by: Allah on September 16, 2005 12:26 PM

I question the timing.

Cheers,
Dave at Garfield Ridge

P.S. C'mon, Andrew should be linking *me*. After all, that Powers Boothe thing has to count for something, right?

Oh, wait, I'm not really gay. And I *am* conservative, and not a poseur.

Never mind.

Posted by: Dave at Garfield Ridge on September 16, 2005 12:28 PM

He likes to link to gay people (not that there is anything wrong with it)

You're saying my George Clooney revelation bought me some Sullivan cred?

10-4. I would recommend sharing your beagle fantasies as well. That, my friend, gets you on his blogroll.

Posted by: BrewFan on September 16, 2005 01:13 PM

Allah--I was introduced to your blog through a Sullivan link way back in the day. It was to a Thomas Friedman parody ("did you break into my desk, you dirty Jew"?). Which eventually led me to you, Ace. Um...sorry.

Posted by: Alex on September 16, 2005 02:19 PM

Alex -- Right, I'd forgotten. He did link the Friedman parody. He also linked me when I did a Photoshop of Howard Dean after the scream. That was what drew the "irrepressible" comment.

Good times. Simpler times. A time when Sullivan was still kinda sorta conservative.

"Good times. Simpler times. A time when Sullivan was still kinda sorta conservative."

When was this magical time? I must've been drinking during this period.

Oh, and Allah? Your voice is sorely missed. We need you back on that wall, pal.

That, and we also need B.J. and The Bear. Now, there's a show I never grow tired of-- a man and his monkey.

Cheers,
Dave at Garfield Ridge

Posted by: Dave at Garfield Ridge on September 16, 2005 03:32 PM

Dave,

Alas! I think we'll never get back B.J. and the Bearas a TV show. It was a dark day indeed when it got cancelled. However, considering recent trends in Hollywood a B.J. and the Bear movie may be in the not too distant future!

Posted by: Enas Yorl on September 16, 2005 03:41 PM

That's the first time I've read Sullivan in ages...I find it amazing that he can castigate the administration for not doing 'enough' at the beginning of the Hurricane/floods, but now they're doing too much. Will Ace now have a fundraiser to cover those increased bandwidth charges the Sullivan link throws his way?

Posted by: pmm on September 16, 2005 04:49 PM

That, and we also need B.J. and The Bear.

Never heard of that show. But any show involving bears and blowjobs must have been appealing to you.

Posted by: Michael on September 16, 2005 04:58 PM

He's never linked me -- though he did respond to my having suggested he was no better than a Kos diarist by saying that such an accusation against a "classical liberal" such as he was, well, "excitable."

And I gotta admit it -- I got wood.

But then when I was done rubbing one out, I laughed and laughed at idea the "classical liberal" thing.

Posted by: Jeff G on September 16, 2005 05:54 PM

Michael,

There were no actual bears in the show. Bear was the name of the monkey. B.J. owned Bear and they drove around in a big rig hauling stuff. B.J. owned a small shipping company and his other drivers were some very attractive gals. The one with the big boobs was nicknamed "Stacks". This was back in the day when everything "Truckin'" related was popular.

TV gold I tell ya.

Let me get this straight: He accuses you of liking a show involving bears and blowjobs, and your response is, "No, it was a monkey."

OK.

"Good times. Simpler times. A time when Sullivan was still kinda sorta conservative."

Sullivan was pretty cool post-9/11. He was very strong on self-defense, coming up with this whole "Eagles" concept which he contrasted with Hawks. I think the basic idea was Eagles weren't hawkish in the sense that they were quick to go to war, but if attacked they would go all out with their response. I'm probably mangling it; it sounded cool at the time, especially coupled with his fiscal conservatism.

Then the whole gay marriage thing came up, and he turned on Bush and everything Bush stood for, capped by his ridiculous "undecided" stance when it was clear he was going for Kerry, followed by the laughable "endorsement I never thought I'd write" for Kerry which was apparently supposed to be a big shock, etc.

But, yeah, the gay marriage thing really ruined him. I forgot who came up with this, but as crude as it is it sums the situation up perfectly: Andrew Sullivan sees everything through the prism of his asshole.

Posted by: Craiggers on September 16, 2005 06:34 PM

I think Sully also lost his boyfriend somewhere around the time of the gay marriage flap. Made him a little testes, I mean testy.

Or at least, appealing to Sully.

Posted by: Alex on September 16, 2005 08:16 PM

Craiggers,

I thought my description of the show mentioned by Dave explained that B.J. was the name of a truck driver, and not any kind of reference to a slang term for oral sex. Unfortunately, I did not take into account the nature of the typical Ace of Spades reader. I shall elucidate (which means clarify). For the show B.J. and the Bear:

B.J. = The name of a truck driver
B.J. > Blow Job, or any other kind of reference to an act of oral sex

Bear = The name of a monkey
Bear > an actual bear, or any large bear-like mammal

For further clarification, there was not at any time during any episode any act of oral sex between a bear and a man. Or monkey and man. Or bear and monkey. Or, for that matter, man and woman. It was a family show and a completely oral sex free zone.

Gah! Sorry, that's not supposed to read ">" greater than. That's supposed to be NOT equal to ">". Sorry, in the preview pane it worked.

Posted by: Enas Yorl on September 16, 2005 09:47 PM

It's not one of the Seven Signs, but if there was ever any question about Ace's sexuality -- and there was -- I don't think this leaves any more room for doubt.

Later,
bbeck

Posted by: bbeck on September 16, 2005 10:37 PM

Bear is also gay slang for a large, hairy man, so Sulli probably was indeed a fan of the show.

Posted by: digitalbrownshirt on September 16, 2005 10:45 PM

Please, somebody has to know of a nice girl for ace. Anybody?

Well, as soon as the pool boy is done with her there's always Mrs. Michael.

Posted by: BrewFan on September 16, 2005 11:35 PM

Now I'm confused. Was a bear giving blowjobs to a monkey or what? I want to see the tapes.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
