ABC Interviews Wrong Black People

Sheesh, what does a network have to do to get some juicy anti-Bush quotes these days?

Is there any possibility Cindy Sheehan lost a distant relative in the hurricane? Even a third cousin twice removed would do.

Update: Video of one interviewee and transcripts of the others at Newsbusters.

Wait, are you trying to tell me they reacted. . . rationally?

Unlike, say, Celine Dion on Larry King Live?

Huh. Strange.

Cheers,

Ace..I saw that too. I was laughing my ass off at the flop sweat coming off that ABC "journalist". I paraphrase for those who may have missed it:

ABC: "So, Ms. Evacuee, aren't you just angry at the President for his utter failure in the response to the Hurricane?"

Ms. Evacuee: "Nope. I like what the President said. I blame the Mayor of New Orleans."

ABC: "Umm..but you don't really believe the President wants to rebuild the city, do you? Surely you are skeptical ofhis claims?"

Ms. Evacuee: "Nope. I believe him. I have faith in him. He wasn't the one who caused all those buses to sit and get flooded."

ABC: "Umm..maybe I should ask the next evacuee. Surely, you are angry?"

Evacuee 2: "At the President? Nope. Truth be told, I had a chance to get out but didn't take it because I didnt believe the hurricane warnings. I can't blame the President for my decision."

Ditto Evacuee 3, 4 and 5.

Ted Koppel's quote about "If this group of evacuees is reflective of the national mood, the President did very well" was just icing on the cake.

I can't recall Celine Dion ever crying for all the Iraqis that Saddam killed.

Posted by: canuck on September 16, 2005 12:14 AM

I posted my stuff before I read the "not liveblogging" thread. A lot of commenters posted similar things about the ABC interviews, so anyone who wants to get a better feel for how they went down should scan that thread too.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

It is a Christ-like principal to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and shelter the homeless. That's what is happening in Algiers and other places in Louisiana…but by the people of America, not the so-called "Christians" in charge. If George Bush truly listened to God and read the words of the Christ, Iraq and the devastation in New Orleans would have never happened.
It's so sad to see someone grasping at a fame that is no longer theirs and losing touch with a reality as a result.

Posted by: Slublog on September 16, 2005 12:17 AM

losing touch with a reality as a result.

Man, could that sentence be worse? Probably.

I meant "losing touch with reality as a result."

Posted by: Slublog on September 16, 2005 12:18 AM

Must've been the five remaining black agents who Bush hasn't purged from the CIA.

Posted by: Hubris on September 16, 2005 12:21 AM

Holy crap. In laughing at the above, I completely missed this insanity:

I don't care if a human being is black, brown, white, yellow or pink. I don't care if a human being is Christian, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, or pagan. I don't care what flag a person salutes: if a human being is hungry, then it is up to another human being to feed him/her. George Bush needs to stop talking, admit the mistakes of his all around failed administration, pull our troops out of occupied New Orleans and Iraq, and excuse his self from power. The only way America will become more secure is if we have a new administration that cares about Americans even if they don't fall into the top two percent of the wealthiest.
Emphasis mine.

Did she really just say 'occupied New Orleans?'

Seriously. Did she, or is it the wine?

Posted by: Slublog on September 16, 2005 01:25 AM

I can't recall Celine Dion ever crying for all the Iraqis that Saddam killed.

Body count means nothing to a leftie unless there's political gain from it.

This is the best and most uplifting topic of the day.
ABC tried to railroad the interviewings into spouting bush hate, and they did the opposite. A dream come true.

Posted by: Village Idiot on September 16, 2005 02:27 AM

I found a link to the video of the first part of the interview and to a transcript of it all.

If you missed it, watch it now. It is priceless. Karl Rove could not have written a better response.

Posted by: Lorie Byrd on September 16, 2005 02:37 AM

Did she really just say 'occupied New Orleans?'

Yup, Slu, she sure did. And here I thought one of the lefty talking points was that Bu$hitler didn't get the troops into New Orleans fast enough!

Oh well, you heard Mother Sheehan. I guess the pullout should begin immediately, seeing as how she's the one with the "absolute moral authority."

Posted by: Sean M. on September 16, 2005 03:03 AM

So, according to St. Cindy, Bush now has the power to control freakin' Hurricanes? We now have a god-king a la darius the great as president? What next, do the leftists expect him to whip the water to make it behave? Does this woman actually listen to herself, or is this yet another case of leftist verbal spewing?

And THIS is a spokeswoman for the anti-war movement? This pathetic crackpot is their poster girl for peace?

Sheesh!

Posted by: BattleofthePyramids on September 16, 2005 03:03 AM

So, according to St. Cindy, Bush now has the power to control freakin' Hurricanes?

Uh-oh, Chindy has found out about the Weather Machine! Alert Karl Rove! ;-)

Posted by: rosignol on September 16, 2005 04:42 AM

So the President was supposed to go to the mouth of the Mississippi, build an altar, and sacrifice a ram on it to appease the diety into sparing the city.

And we're supposed to do weather forecasting by poking about in the entrails of a goat.

Nice, real nice.

Oh man. I saw that last night.
I was bracing myself for the usual blah-blah-blah, and when that lady answered the first question, my whole family cheered.
No matter what this guy did, he couldn't get anyone to take his bait.

Posted by: Zorachus on September 16, 2005 08:35 AM

but by the people of America, not the so-called "Christians" in charge.

Just exactly who does Moore think are the people that are doing all the giving? That's right, they are the Christians that he loves to mock so often.

If Moore really believes that the government should be the ones passing out aid, then he should send them a big, fat (pun intended) check. He could then sit back and watch 40% of it go to administrative costs for the 27 people that government regulations say have to sign off on every penny sent.

Of course, if he gave it to the "so-called Christians," they might just recklessly spend it on food and clothing for the people devastated by the hurricane. He can't be having that.

Posted by: Steve L. on September 16, 2005 08:43 AM

Not surprising really. Rove's minions discovered ABC's plans for the interview/ambush at the Astrodome, and he ordered the Karl Rove Mind Beam™ aimed squarely at it.

Full power I said, damn you! Full power!

Poor bastards never had a chance.

Interviewee #1 "Bush, he doesn't care,, doesn't caare..mmpphmmpf.. ow, my head doesn't care how much it take to restore New Orleans, or how difficult it will be! He will make it happen! God Bless President George Bush"!

Interviewee #2 "It was Bush who didn't get the... POING the....uh BOOP proper handoff of control from an inept governor and a do-nothing mayor. Thank God he arrived and saved the day"!

Interviewee #3 "I just love Laura Bush".

Posted by: Dave in Texas on September 16, 2005 08:47 AM

but by the people of America, not the so-called "Christians" in charge.

I live in Long Beach, MS, and sat out Katrina at home. The first help to show up was the Salvation Army and the Southern Baptist Convention disaster relief team. They set up field kitchens and were providing water and hot meals by Wednesday, two days after the storm. They're still there now. The Red Cross got there Thursday.

FEMA showed up Saturday.

Is it me, or did the reporter seem a little taken aback that those misguided black people didn't reflexively and irrationally blame the President and "whitey"? Cocooned, elite reporters have such a narrow, myopic view of what people that don't hobnob at swanky New York restaurants think and do, and it's damn funny when the "common folk" don't react the way they expect or want.

Posted by: UGAdawg on September 16, 2005 09:55 AM

I watched the video of the interview. Dean Reynolds talked to that woman like she was a child. Pure condescension.

A sitting president with the most diverse administration in history has to respond to the charge that "he doesn't care about black people" while the guy who treats a woman like a 5 yr old because her skin happens to be dark is beyond reproach because he's a "caring" liberal. What an elitist fuck this shitbag is.

Posted by: The Warden on September 16, 2005 09:57 AM

Ah, the perils of live television!!! No way those interviews would have been aired if they had been pre-taped.

Lately many on the right have second-guessed Bush for taking the high road instead of brawling with the MSM in their own gutter. My money says that decision will appear very wise in hindsight.

Posted by: quiggs on September 16, 2005 10:02 AM

well, ABC must've worked through the night to find what they needed - friend of mine at work said she watched ABC this morning and they showed two more interviewees, one, mildly saying the speech gave her hope, and the other saying Bush failed us!

Way to go ABC!

Posted by: Slublog on September 16, 2005 10:09 AM

UGADawg,

Yeah, Dean Reynolds sounded astounded. I mean, how dare those negroes go off and think for themselves? Obviously they are even dumber than the white liberals think. What's needed is more education until these coloreds get the message:

GEORGE BUSH IS A SMIRKY LITTLE CHIMP WHO HATES BLACK PEOPLE!!!! SAY IT, YOU INGRATEFUL NEGRO!!!! I TALK LOUDLY WITH MY WHITE FRIENDS AT COCKTAIL PARTIES ABOUT HOW BADLY REPUBLICANS OPPRESS YOU, AND THIS IS THE THANKS I GET????!!!!!

Check out ABC online! ROFL

Can't stand it

Posted by: lauraw on September 16, 2005 10:13 AM

Of course they worked their butts off to find someone to tow the party line! This is Pravda, who do you think you're dealing with?

Posted by: Billy D on September 16, 2005 10:20 AM

Even the NY Times reported that the evacuees had a positive reponse to Bush's speech. Coming from the Times, that's a suprise!

Partial text of the NY Times article::
HOUMA, La., Sept. 15 - Evacuees at a shelter here said they took comfort Thursday night from both the substance and the symbolism of the speech President Bush gave in the city many of them had fled.

When Mr. Bush talked about breaking the cycle of poverty and increasing the rate of home ownership on the Gulf Coast, one evacuee shouted, "Thank you! Thank you!" Others at the shelter, at the civic center in Houma, a small city southwest of New Orleans, nodded in approval at several points during the speech.

"I feel very encouraged because he's accepted responsibility, and in doing that, I feel that he has stepped up to the plate," said Evelyn Green, 58, a retired health care worker from the New Orleans area. "He touched me. I know now he's going to be there to help us rebuild our cities and towns. I take him at his word. I want to see everything he said tonight fulfilled."

Warden,

You're right and that kind of rich liberal condescension pisses me off to no end. I live in Savannah, GA, which is Clarence Thomas's home town. Now Justice Thomas is easily one of the most reviled black men in the universe by the left, especially cretins like Julianne Malvauex and her band of sub-moron racial grandstanders. All because Thomas dares to think for himself. If he was a liberal, there would be half a dozen schools named after him down here, instead he's Satan in horn-rimmed glasses.

Posted by: UGAdawg on September 16, 2005 11:01 AM

OBVIOUSLY, this reveals a HUGE GINORMOUS HUMUNGOUS PROBLEM:

FEMA is OBVIOUSLY not providng these evacuees with enough copies of the NYTIMES so that they could "learn" - from the likes of Herbert, Krugman, Rich and Dowd - that Bush was the problem - and Iraq.

Sarcasm off.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
