Mike Kinsley: It Ain't Bush's Fault

Shockingly enough, the reliably liberal partisan editor of the reliably partisan LA Times slams the media for assigning blame to Bush, and blames all of the previous Presidents except Bush.

Here's a little secret: There are disasters waiting to happen all over, and yes, when they come, we'll find there were people warning us about them for decades.

But people often choose the very inexpensive option of hoping for the best than the much pricier option of preparing for the worst.

We do this every day.

I don't know about you, but my fire alarm is too sensitive and often goes off when the oven's cooking something, and I tend to disable it, and then forget about promptly turning it back on.

If I fire strikes, I'll be kicking myself. Assuming I'm still alive.

But we make calculated decisions to risk catastrophe every day, as individuals and collectively as a nation.

Take your blood pressure medication before you read it. Or, if you're not on blood pressure medication, go mug someone old and agitated on the street and ~~loot~~ "take" theirs.

You'll be happy you did.

The NY Times article was semi-fair as well, except they didn't differentiate between LEMA and FEMA.

Goldstein has an excellent post, with some great commenters after (see especially the post from "Chris").

The MSM seems to be provoking the "Let's not play the blame game" talk while at the same time leading the charge of blaming. If I had to put blame where it hasn't been aimed yet, I'd have to say the MSM is slowing down efforts at help/search/rescue by the very fact they are in the way (typical of those who'd rather be the story than get the story).

The MSM are dastardly fucks. They'll do anything to further their careers. Now Kinsley has even resorted to telling the truth. What a cop out prostitute. He know he's supposed to lie like all the rest of the MSM. Is there no end to their perfidy?

But yeah, I know what you mean. Except the media would have reported the story very differently - Blanco and Nagin might have taken some of the blame in that alternate universe.

Based on past performance, honesty or integrity simply aren't credible options here.
