Michael Brown, Pink-SlippedI haven't been this distraught since the left bagged Ultimate Champion Man-God Jeff Gannon, who was just like a berserking barbarian in a Frank Frazzetta painting, only not as much of a pussy. Update: Resume Padding. Well, Michael Brown didn't quite have the experience he claimed. Matthew thinks it's a perfect case of life imitating The Office: Brown's official biography on the FEMA Web site says that his background in state and local government also includes serving as "an assistant city manager with emergency services oversight" and as a city councilman. -- Quoted here. [From the first episode of The Office, "Training Day:" posted by Ace at 02:18 PM

Actually, "pink-slipped" isn't really the case. More like "90% of the early work is done anyway, so he's going back to DC to oversee prep for Hurrican Ophelia and the rest of the storms we're going to see in the second half of the hurricane season." So they're putting in a nice, loud, charismatic guy to "run" the effort, when most of what's left for FEMA to do is hand out checks to the folks in the area. People should know better than to rely on TIME accuracy. From the Edmond Sun: However, this morning, Deakins disputes Time's quotes attributed to her. "I spoke with two reporters from Time Magazine Thursday. I answered questions about the City of Edmond, the organizational structure and role of the city manager and his staff. My comments were in the context of the organization as it functions today. I explained that my employment with the city of Edmond began in 1997, several years after Michael D. Brown's employment by the city and that I could not speak to the specifics of the organizational structure as it was during that time. I also explained that I could not I speak to the details of Mr. Brown's role within the organization. "The only people who can speak with authority with regard to Mr. Brown's position in the organization are those who were at the City of Edmond during that time and worked with Mr. Brown, such as the city manager or members of the city council. "I regret any misunderstanding that may have occurred as a result of my comments." Deakins also said that e-mail and phone calls have been pouring into her office this morning in light of the online report, including one e-mail from a person who serves as an assistant to a city manager on the East Coast and was upset at the characterization of what that job entails. Deakins said this person's e-mail said an assistant to a city manager is often the No. 2 or No. 3 person in a city government organization and has a wide variety of repsonsibilities. The Daily Oklahomantoday had some quotes about Michael Brown from Stephen Jones, the lawyer for Timothy McVeigh. Apparently Brown worked for his law office for a couple of years. When the the practice split up, all but two of the employees were hired by the various partners. Brown was one of the two not re-hired. Posted by: digitalbrownshirt on September 9, 2005 06:07 PM
With an assist from me too. I've been wanting him gone for a year now. He mismanaged FEMA horribly in Florida. Posted by: Donnah on September 9, 2005 11:03 PM
