Ghost Ship Haunts Columbia River

Supposedly it was an old gambling paddler that burned to the keel with 250 souls on board, and yet the Gamblin' Dead continue plying up and down the river, always pissin' and moanin' about that asshole who stayed in with a pair of fours and got a third one on his last card.

Wait, no it's not that at all. It's supposed to be a stealth ship, either a stealth patrol boat for sneaky interdictions or a "SEALion" SEAL infiltration craft.

Kinda cool.

LOL... One of the guys in the article claims the story being told amongst the locals is that this boat/ship/mystery machine is being built for the Israelis.

Whether it's true or not, I expect Cedarford to comment shortly.

A ghost turd haunts my bowels.

And, judging from my shorts, it sure as hell doesn't have "stealth" properties.

I expect it's being engineered for the ChiComs, and our children will be footing the bill! Either that or it's part of the IDF's secret plan to flood Gaza and patrol it with death-dealing gunboats using the stolen American riverine technology that they paid for with their money-grubbing.

I heard it was a sub. Maybe a Joo-Boat.

"It's a boat for a particular customer who wishes to remain anonymous"

In other words, it's for Batman.

I have two words for you: Test Bed.

Stealth (meaning low radar cross-section) hulls are becoming standard in naval architecture. The Scandinavian (Swedish, Norwegian, and Finnish) navies are all deploying missile corvettes that have "stealth" hulls. The French Lafayette-class frigate has a stealth hull (versions have been sold to Saudi Arabia and Taiwan, among others). The US Navy is developing the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), with teams from General Dynamics and Lockheed Martin competing, that are largely based on the experience of the Scandinavian navies.

A 70-foot hull suggests that the Columbia River design is related to the US LCS effort.

The Israeli navy is very practical, and tends to rely more on the active radar jammers produced by its own electronic warfare industry (Elisra, Tadiran, Elta, Rafael) than in exotic hull types.

Just my opinion.

There's actually a picture of the thing on the Newhouse News homepage.

My theory? Canadian drug smugglers got their tunnel found out, so they're looking into another method of sneaking the wacky weed in.

There was fear aplenty. But the truth is, a lot of the panic Americans saw on television was performative. The throngs of people along Convention Center Boulevard sat patiently in the broiling weather, five or six deep in folding chairs on the sidewalk, waiting for something, someone, to arrive. Then, a television crew or photographer would show up, and people would pour into the street, falling on their knees, screaming and gesticulating to the camera. It was an awful situation, obviously, but when the camera wasn't on them, it was remarkable how patient and orderly everyone was.

Elric the Blade says he's no longer sure that Trump will have the right to appeal in the NY fraud case:
Yesterday, I thought that Trump had an appeal as of right on the fraud liability, based upon news reports that cited the second opinion as declining to find in favor of liability. That would give Trump at least 2 dissenting judges for an appeal as of right.
But now, after seeing the actual decisions, I'm not so sure. Sorry, guys. I've never seen or heard of what the second opinion did. They dissented, but ... decided not to dissent? I'm not sure what the effect is in terms of whether Trump has a right to appeal. I doubt anyone does.
I think even if Trump doesn't have a right of appeal, the Court of Appeals (NY's highest court) will take the case. But ... it's a liberal court so who knows how they'll rule. I have the docket number so I can track what gets appealed to the Court of Appeals. If Trump wants to appeal, I think he might file an appeal as of right and a petition for permission to appeal. His lawyers know this case much better than I, but even they might know what the effect of all the opinions are.
I don't think they'll take the appeal. Judges are lazy and cowardly and will duck any hot potato case they can. These judges are also liberal hacks, and do not want to deliver Trump a full victory.
