Liking The Who: It's Hard

Because I can just sort of put that Pete Townsend internet-child-porn thing out of mind long enough to dig 5:15 again, but then he does something stupid again.

Like speaking up on behalf of Michael Jackson:

PETE TOWNSHEND is thrilled MICHAEL JACKSON has been acquitted of child abuse charges, and has slammed the star's harrowing child abuse trial as"absurd".

The WHO guitarist, who was also at the centre of a media frenzy after he visited a child porn website for research purposes two years ago (03), sympathises with the THRILLER singer, and is convinced his intentions around children have always been pure.

A statement on his official website reads, "So, another absurd celebrity trial collapsed. I was pleased Michael was cleared.

"My only experience of his dealings with children is that he's unselfishly helped every cause, and individual child, I have sent his way."

Next up: Tom Sizemore and Robert Downey Jr. defend Nick Nolte and Billy Joel.

Daniel Baldwin will defend them too, but who the hell cares about Daniel Baldwin? On the Baldwin-meter, he just barely rates above Cousin Bernie the Accountant.

Thanks to Master of None.

Hey, I'm just surprised Sizemore didn't speak up when Vikings RB Onterrio Smith got pegged for using his own Whizzinator.

I figured they'd be two peas in a pod.

Cheers,

Watch what you say about Townshend. He's my rock hero. Any man who can write both "Won't Get Fooled Again" AND "Now I'm A Farmer" ("it's alarming how charming it is to be a-farming!") gets every benefit of the doubt.

Posted by: Jeff B. on June 28, 2005 02:15 PM

Except in the UK, "farming" is slang for "trolling for illegal underage mangina."

Posted by: brak on June 28, 2005 02:26 PM

My only experience of his dealings with children is that he's unselfishly helped every cause, and individual child, I have sent his way.

I didn't realize pedos traded victims like baseball cards. What do they do - make pre-pubescent boys into individual spokes on undersized wheels of pain? Clack, clack, clack, clack . . . Sounds just like a motorcycle with a nice tight tail pipe!

Research my ass. (not literally)

They are all perverts... and the fact that we let them wander free is the real reason that the islamofacist terrorists are able to recruit so well...

Posted by: jtb-in-texas on June 28, 2005 03:05 PM

As a rabid Who fan, I have to say that I find this to be disheartening.

I guess we all should have known where Townshend was coming from after he wrote "Rough Boys".

Posted by: The Warden on June 28, 2005 03:18 PM

Keep in mind, it was Entwistle who wrote the pedophilia song ("Fiddle About" from Tommy):

I'm your wicked Uncle Ernie
I'm glad you won't see or hear me as I
Fiddle about, fiddle about, fiddle about

Your mother left me here to mind you
Now I'm doing what I want to
Fiddling about, fiddling about, fiddle about

Down with the bedclothes,
Up with yer nightshirt
Fiddle about, fiddle about, fiddle about

Classy stuff.

Another priceless line from rock's seediest concept album: "We forsake you/Gonna rape you."

Fewer people should be paying attention to Pete Townshend's public states and more should be listening to the wisdom of John Lennon.

Check out this interview with Lennon found at Colby Cosh's site http://www.colbycosh.com/. Think Lennon knew something that the promoters of Live8 didn't?

And I just bought a Who CD....yick. None of these offending songs are on it though. (Live at Leeds).

Posted by: Master of None on June 28, 2005 03:47 PM

Yeah, but Who's Next is one of the few old CD's I can't seem to tire of. Keith Moon was fantastic!

Posted by: 72 3-legged dogs on June 28, 2005 04:22 PM

" Keith Moon was fantastic!"

That's why I like Live at Leeds. Nobody plays any kind of music on any kind of instrument as well as Keith Moon.

There is a drum solo by him online (sound is poor) at:

Live at Leeds is unquestionably the greatest live album ever. I wouldn't single anybody out only because it's an amazing example of ensemble playing. But if you want to have your jaw drop, the next time you listen to it, focus on Entwistle. The man was a towering giant. Held the whole thing up on his shoulders. He was an innovator in a lot of areas, too, not just playing. Did you know that he invented round-wound strings? That was what gave him that driving sound.

I saw Zeppelin open for them at Meriwhether Post Pavilion (MD) when Zep's first album had just come out, and they were relative unknowns (except for the musicians in the crowd).

After Zeppelin's set, the consensus was that they had stolen the show. Ahhh....no. The Who came out and blew them out of the water.

Man, another major icon demolished. This is just pathetic.

Who?

Posted by: on June 28, 2005 07:52 PM

I had tickets for a performance of Daltry and Entwistle along with a full orchestra. It was called something like "Daltry Sings Townsend" or something like that. My seats were third row, but the concert was cancelled because Entwistle had cut his hand. I bought the tickets just for a chance to see Entwistle up close.

Posted by: Master of None on June 28, 2005 10:07 PM

If you're into the Who, get the Isle of Wight 2 CD set. It kicks ass. Roughly the same time as Live at Leeds, great performance, hilarious banter between Townshend, Moon and Daltrey, fantastic sound. Some excellent songs that are not on any albums, and are rarely heard (Heaven and Hell, Don't Even Know Myself, Water, etc.) Lots of blues covers.

Posted by: Dogstar on June 29, 2005 12:34 AM

I listened to their "Live In Cincinnati" CD the other day and it was crap, just full of screaming.

The only decent track was 'Get the fuck off me'.

Posted by: DelphiGuy on June 29, 2005 01:53 AM

Please get real, if wacko was really abusing kids they would have come out of the woodwork in droves, yes it is really odd what he was doing with hoards of youg kids bit I dot believe abuse was on the menu, the claimants parents sent him back after the last accusations from THEM???? if he was guilty of abuse then why were they not charged with procuring? Compare what wacko was accused of compared to the hoard of catholic pedo priests, they must be laughing their socks off at Jackson. As for Townsend they filth took awar 3 or 4 G4 towers and found nothing to charge him with, his was one of 1500 names including the upper reaches of law and church supplied by the US police, where are the high prifile arrests of the pedo lwyers, judjes, politicos and bishops??? this all adds up to a handy smokescreen for the real bastards, looik for the bigger picture

Posted by: chris Edwards on June 29, 2005 08:13 AM

So Chris. Would you describe yourself as Pro-pedophile?

Posted by: Master of None on June 29, 2005 09:36 AM

Delphi- that was awful, but hilarious

Important Message from Recent Convert to Christianity and Yet Super-Serious Christian Tuq'r Qarlson: Actually Muslims love Jesus, it's Trump and his neocons who hate him
Tucker Carlson Network
@TCNetwork

The people in charge [Jews, of course -- ace] don't want you to know this, but Muslims love Jesus.

Islam reveres Him as a major prophet and messenger of the Lord, believes He performed miracles, and states that He will return to Earth to defeat the Antichrist. That's why Donald Trump's painting depicting himself as the Son of God offended the president of Iran. It was an attack on his religion as well as Christianity.

Trump's trolling tweet was ill-advised, but Tucker is just lying when he claims the Christianity-hating President of Iran was "offended" by this.
He's one step away from announcing his official conversion to Islam. He literally never stops praising Islam. Well, he suddenly became Christian two years ago, there's not much stopping him from converting again.
You can track Tuq'r's official conversion to Islam with this Bingo card.
