Shock: Something Interesting Happens in... CanadaThe liberal government survives a tie no-confidence vote only due to the defection of an opportunistic auto-parts empress. Yeah, I know it's Canada. But, believe it or not, it's interesting. posted by Ace at 11:58 AM
CommentsI can't believe I read to the end of this insufferably long and boring post about Canada. Posted by: a4g on May 20, 2005 12:01 PM
Canada...Canada...nope, it's not ringing a bell. What is this Canada you speak of? (I kid, I kid. I used to do a lot of consulting work in Edmonton, and I formed a bizarre but long-lasting affection for the Smitty's restaurant franchise. Folks in Alberta and B.C. are great people. Les Quebecois, on the other hand, can shampoo my crotch.) Posted by: Monty on May 20, 2005 12:05 PM
Oh, please just keep ignoring Canada! What's been happening up here is so humiliating, I can only hope that people from real countries aren't noticing. I can't admit that I'm Canadian anymore - I'm going to start pretending to be American. Posted by: Wanda on May 20, 2005 12:33 PM
It is actually a pretty bad situation. The Libs lost the confidence of the house, but then used technicalities to delay a confidence vote so that they could effectively buy votes to regain confidence. No government in Canada has ever done such a thing. There may be some pretty radical changes in Canada in the next few years. Posted by: Nathan S. on May 20, 2005 12:35 PM
Canada is about to become a banana republic, and we'd better pay attention, because this could happen to lots of other nations in what we still call "the West." Posted by: Joshua Chamberlain on May 20, 2005 02:28 PM

Actually the part of the scandal that I think is most interesting is the current government caught on tape trying to corrupt an opposition member of parliament just before last week's vote: here. Read it, you'll learn how to approach someone while making it appear they approached you, how to agree what the "truth" is, how to lie about a deal being made without getting caught in a lie, how to make sure your guy makes the first corrupting move first. All I can say is that the Prime Minister's chief of staff is very well versed in the dark arts... Posted by: Jezebel on May 21, 2005 09:10 AM

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals. The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite. Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
