Terry "Have You No Decency, Sir?" Moran Gets Slapped Up By Hugh HewittMoran was the guy who asked Scott McClellan if he was now the editor in chief of Al-Newsweek, and how he could dare to presume to lecture the magazine that it might want to verify stories that would inflame Muslim passions before running them. Moran further says the White House has no right to criticize the press. That whole dissent/accountability thingee seems to run in only one direction. After a radio interview with Hugh (which, to be fair, Moran was sort of gutsy to agree to): ...listeners and emailers reacted negatively to the arrogance that seeped from almost every answer Moran gave and to the press corps's hostility to the president and to the idea that the president's spokesman could legitimately call upon--not order, but urge--Newsweek to do more to reverse the damage done by their story. Here's one small bit of Moran's view of the world:I don't think the media should be immune from criticism. I think the elected leader of the United States has his or her hands full, and plenty of things for the elected leader of the United States to do. I think media criticism is a great thing. I think what you do is a great thing. I do not think it's a great thing for the president's spokesperson to begin instructing the media how to go about its business. It's all worth quoting, but fair use, alas, doesn't permit that. Read the whole thing. Hewitt also rounds up blogger reaction to all this. And then make sure you read the full transcript, which is pretty damn compelling. Some of the best bits after the jump, but it's all worth reading. Moran accuses Hewitt of practicing "demogoguery," and seems strangley uninterested (shock!) in Kerry's failure to release his full military records, as he promised. And those aren't even the best bits. TM: Not at all, no. Not at all. posted by Ace at 02:53 PM
CommentsI took some broadcasting and journalism classes in college and even in the lower level po dunk classes they begin to teach you the "sacredness" of the press. I can only imagine what it is like by the time you get to Journalism school. I'm serious. It was taught like a religion and the 'honor' in it. I think that is how most journalists see themselves (ironically) like a some sort of "religious warrior" fighting the good fight. Posted by: Rightwingsparkle on May 19, 2005 03:19 PM
The most telling line was the one about "old media and old royalty". Many moons ago, when I was but a pup, I was taught the function of a reporter was to report the facts. Not the facts as a reporter wishes them, but the facts. By the time I was into advanced playschool (a respected left coast university), kids were becoming "journalists" because "they wanted to make a difference". I didn't understand that then, but I do now. Bleeding brains took the same path with the law and with education: teach what you wish was real, and it will become real soon enough. The power of the pen was enormous. Now watch the power of the blog! Posted by: Carlos on May 19, 2005 03:31 PM
It is gutsy of Moran to do the radio show. If I run into him on the street a few years from now I'll be sure to drop a dollar in his cup. Posted by: Alex_fs on May 19, 2005 03:35 PM
I think you left out one of the most damning quotes of all: Terry Moran: It comes from, I think, a huge gulf of misunderstanding, for which I lay plenty of blame on the media itself. There is, Hugh, I agree with you, a deep anti-military bias in the media. One that begins from the premise that the military must be lying, and that American projection of power around the world must be wrong. I think that that is a hangover from Vietnam, and I think it's very dangerous. (emphasis added) Posted by: max on May 19, 2005 04:42 PM
That's quoted in boldface in the extended quote from the interview, after the continue reading jump. Posted by: ace on May 19, 2005 04:56 PM
HH took a few good hits there himself ACE, TM is nothing if not feisty. I once heard Hannity anihillate Charles Rangel (and oh what a beautiful thing it was!), and with Rangel's stupid Nu Yawk Lowd-mout that's not easy. I wish Moran would go on his show or Rush's, either of whom would tear him a new asshole! Posted by: 72 opium poppies on May 19, 2005 05:57 PM
I'm listening to Hewitt right now. He's talking about the Pepsi middlefinger fiasco. He's right. It's getting no play in the western press. Posted by: on May 19, 2005 06:39 PM
Ace, you left out the part of the transcript where TM goes after HH because Hugh has "never been to Iraq". He gets reeeeeeeeeeealy pissy about it, then backs down after Hugh starts to rip him on the attitude. That was my favorite part, but the parts you put up have enough admissions on TM's part to make him look like a real asshat (boy, I really like using that word). For a further example of msm hypocrisy re the White House criticizing NewsweeK see: http://libertyfiles.blogspot.com/ I couldn't get the Terry Moran haranguing of Scott McClellan which I discussed earlier today out of my craw. And then I remembered a time when it was just fine for the White House to go beyond asking the media to clean up its act, to actually threatening the media if they ran an unfavorable story. Anyone recall the Juanita Broaddrick story? She alleged, at the height of the Clinton impeachment, that Clinton raped her back in the 1978 when he was Arkansas Attorney General. And NBC's Lisa Myers had interviewed her. But then, Joe Lockhart, White House spokesman at the time, personally called the networks and threatened them with unspecified trouble if they even dared to run the story. And NBC acquiesced. The story went beyond the widely believed rumors of presidential lechery and entered the realm of sex crimes. And because a Democrat president demanded that the press bury the story at a very critical time for him, they did. Who's editing whom Mr. Moran? Posted by: max on May 19, 2005 07:29 PM
"you're teaching the law. I'm living it. ...let me explain to you blablabla bsbsbs " Howinhell do you fit that head through doors, Moron?!? "journalists with big heads and little *ahem* resumes, acting like they know how the world works" Game, set and match. Posted by: Claire on May 22, 2005 04:10 PM

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals. The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite. Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
