See?! That Bandwidth Is So Expensive Sometimes I Have to Choose Between the Blog and Medicine

Update: Sorry for that outage; it happens, alas.

Thanks for all the donations thus far.

If you've thought about donating before, but didn't, it would be a terrific time to reconsider. Hit the PayPal button in the sidebar (it comes right after the Sully Freak-Out Meter, and then my little bad-res logo for Winning Wizbang's Best of the Top 100 Blogs).

It would definitely help the cause.

And for those of you who have donated, and who keep donating-- thanks. You have no idea how much I appreciate it.

All right already. Now, as you would say, get off my t1t.

:)

Thanks a lot, BBeck.

Hmmm...t1t...

Posted by: harrison on May 18, 2005 09:44 AM

Does two weeks ago count as spring, or are you hitting me up again?

Posted by: Dave at Garfield Ridge on May 18, 2005 10:04 AM

Okay, but if we find out you've gone to Europe to research a book or something outlandish like that, we'll...uh...issue empty threats.

Posted by: Slublog on May 18, 2005 10:17 AM

Okay, what's the proper way to enter your GD email address? Is it actually aceofspadesATgmailDOTcom? Because I tried using the @ and the . and said you weren't yet registered. Make this shit clearer for us imbiciles willing to part with our money!

Posted by: compos mentis on May 18, 2005 10:19 AM

Never mind. Found the Paypal clicky. Although it's not as much fun because there's no place to add comments such as:

Ace-san, I just want you to know that I ruv your brog and, though I must now ask each of my seven chirdren to work five extra hour in sweatshop, I make donation to get you out of poor house.

Posted by: compos mentis on May 18, 2005 10:33 AM

Do the t-shirts count? Because I bought two.

Posted by: physics geek on May 18, 2005 10:33 AM

t-shirts definitely count, although RockNClothing is screwing me and claiming "No profits."

Over a hundred shirts sold... "no profits."

No profits for ME, they mean. They're not even answering my emails.

But it's the thought that counts.

Dave,

Of course I'm not trying to hit you up again. Thanks for your generosity. : )

Compos, Slu,

Thanks an awful lot. It really helps.

Bandwidth is a bitch. Ask Andy.

Posted by: ace on May 18, 2005 10:56 AM

ok - I'm a retard like compos. When I tried to pay, it told me you were not registered...but I don't see a paypal clicky.

Could you be clearer...preferably step by step instructions?

Posted by: tinkerbelle on May 18, 2005 10:58 AM

Tink...it's easier if you hit the PayPal button on the sidebar. That takes you right to the donation page.

Posted by: Slublog on May 18, 2005 11:07 AM

tinkerbelle - ok - I'm a retard like compos.

Hey!!! lol (I resemble that remark!)

Posted by: compos mentis on May 18, 2005 11:19 AM

ok- took Slublog's advice and used the link in the sidebar - much easier.

by the way, I still haven't received my shirt I ordered.

LOL dude, I hate to be that guy, but I told you those ass-munchers were shady. Those t-shirts you had made, if you sold 100, probably cost those guys an average of $6-$7 to make each (including prorated template fee's for the silkscreen). Fuck those guys man. If you want a deal, go with what you know. I've got friends in NYC who can set you up, if you want.
Posted by: fat kid on May 18, 2005 12:23 PM

I know. I was previously warned by Heather of Thisfish.com, too, who'd been screwed by them as well.

Posted by: ace on May 18, 2005 12:25 PM

fat kid,

any of those friends carry baseball bats?

man ace, that fucking bites. I couldn't justify a donation to the wife, but a tshirt seemed the perfect way of showing you some love.

I'm really pissed

Posted by: hobgoblin on May 18, 2005 12:29 PM

Well, they can dodge emails for a bit, and then comes the threat. We'll see.

Posted by: ace on May 18, 2005 12:31 PM

Maybe 100 sold, but I saw at least that many in a moldy stack under the Williamsburg bridge, and that's after an army of homeless guys picked some up to wash windshields with. Where do you think I got that snappy name for your radio gig?

All right, I'll fork up for milking that tired joke.

Posted by: spongeworthy on May 18, 2005 12:33 PM

I tried to donate some of George Galloway's unredeemed oil vouchers, but that's not an option in PayPal. Time to call tech support, I guess.

Posted by: Cynical Nation on May 18, 2005 12:40 PM

Ace, more than glad to hit the tipjar, you produce a great product. And valu-rite vodka ain't gettin any cheaper now is it? About your friends at rockn-clothing; What bullshit. No profits? howthefuck do you stay in business if you have to guess how much you'll make on each unit? Sorry you got screwed. I bought one, and was pretty dissapointed with the quality (not your fault). The material was so thin you could literally see through it if you held it up to the light, and the sizing was way off too. Liked the design. If you ever do another run with a real company, I'd buy another.

Posted by: Gromulin on May 18, 2005 12:43 PM

That sucks about the t-shirts. Does it comfort you to know that the quote on it has shocked the hell out of a lot of people I know?

My wife won't let me wear it to church, though. Pity.

Posted by: Slublog on May 18, 2005 12:48 PM

The material was so thin you could literally see through it if you held it up to the light,

Oh yeah baby! I'm thinking Ace has produced some high quality wet t-shirt material! First female (you dorks) hottie to post a wet T pic in one of Ace's shirts gets a serious one-handed clap from me and I might even tip Ace again.

Posted by: compos mentis on May 18, 2005 12:54 PM

Ace, you hoser, the reason your Paypal link doesn't work is that the link on the sidebar includes hidden input parameters to take people to the correct page. If you don't include that, it just goes to some generic Paypal page.

Here is what you want:
Click here to donate to that Ace loser

And, yes, it's a hideous link. Here it is in plain text:

What a bunch of shady assholes. The shirt I bought developed a hole in the armpit after one wash.

Anyway, I'm happy to hit the tip jar. You provide me with more entertainment than any magazine I could subscribe to.

BTW, I'd love to see an Ace of Spades fundraiser. I'm thinking you could work a lot of humor into that.

Posted by: The Warden on May 18, 2005 02:00 PM

The thing I didn't get about the whole T-shirt thing is that I thought they'd be designed, then made available, and then they'd continue to be available indefinitely. Instead they were made, then there were posts about how they weren't selling, then they were being taken away on a certain date, then they were taken away before then, then brought back for a while, and then they were gone. And now on top of it you didn't get paid?

Maybe you should have just gone with something like Cafe Press (yes, I know, they accepted some Bush-hate shirts...that's why I said like Cafe Press). You would have made a couple of bucks a shirt and could have kept them for sale forever.

Maybe RockNClothing supposedly had better quality or could print on black, but what's with their "sell a bunch of shirts NOW or we're cutting you" attitude? Did you know that was the deal from the start?

Posted by: Bob on May 18, 2005 02:38 PM

I'll donate if you send me of pic of you....;-)

Posted by: Rightwingsparkle on May 18, 2005 02:58 PM

$30.00 inbound.

That's the best I can do right now.

Tell Johnny Coldcuts to lay off the mayo. That stuff aint cheap...

Compos, the girl T doesn't get translucent when wet as it is black and evidently made of a thicker fabric. Guess how I know? ;)

bbeck, it doesn't?

damn. Ok, I'm in anyway. Off to find a link that works...

Bob,

That code doesn't work either. It leads to an "abort" page.

Thanks for trying, though.

Man, if I had know the T-shirt deal was going to suck so badly, I would have just made a paypal donation instead!

Posted by: NickS on May 19, 2005 03:14 PM

Ace,

It works for me in Firefox. I tried it in IE, and IE seems to have a limit on URL length or something, so that truncates it, so, yeah, it gets to an abort page.

PayPal probably has some other way to do it.

Posted by: Bob on May 19, 2005 05:15 PM
