I Want One

The Sins lists it under "Pride," but "Lust" is more like it.

Lust... and Wrath, baby. A delicious little cocktail of passion. And robotronic ass-kicking.

this is what they would refer to as men who overcompensate for areas they are "lacking"

Posted by: tinkerbelle on May 9, 2005 07:27 PM

sorry- thought I was in the flame thread and got all excited because I didn't have to write it in a stupid haiku.

Posted by: tinkerbelle on May 9, 2005 07:28 PM

So... you're saying some men don't have big enough legs?

It's a Labor! Where's Alphonse?! ;)

Posted by: Patrick Chester on May 9, 2005 07:35 PM

Way too slow at 1.5km/h; I'd make short work of it with my "snowspeeder" (tricycle with realistic cardboard cockpit) and clothesline "tripping wire."

Posted by: Hubris on May 9, 2005 07:39 PM

I love you guys, but Jesus Christ. How about reading a good book? And I don't mean the coffee-table book of scenes from Star Wars. Maybe playing with your kids?.....oh, yeah. Sorry.

Posted by: CraigC on May 9, 2005 07:43 PM

They're going to need to install some big arms with pincher claws on them before I buy one. How else am I going to be able to throw large alien creatures out of the air lock?

Posted by: GregD on May 9, 2005 07:51 PM

I guess you could put a midget with a 12-gauge on a turret in each robot calf to take care of the quicker stuff.

Posted by: Hubris on May 9, 2005 07:57 PM

Is Stupidity a deadly sin? It should be.

Posted by: Rightwingsparkle on May 9, 2005 08:03 PM

is dorkporn sinful?

Posted by: on May 9, 2005 08:25 PM

Doesn't appear to be.

Just very sad....;-)

Posted by: Rightwingsparkle on May 9, 2005 08:26 PM

Speed that bitch up. Gimme a 120mm Abrams main gun with a 25 round drum mag in one arm, and a
flamethrower/.50 Browning combo in the other with a big mechanical fist.

Yeah, I played a lot more Battletech than D&D....does it show?

Posted by: SGT Dan on May 9, 2005 08:26 PM

RWS,

They have one with a nice pastel sun dress if that would make it more palatable.

Posted by: Hubris on May 9, 2005 08:30 PM

It actually kinda shuffles rather than walks.
I blogged this when slashdot carried the orginal Japanese language story a month ago.

Posted by: Mark on May 9, 2005 08:40 PM

RWS - that isn't sad - it's the closest thing to owning an actual Battle Mech than.. oh never mind. You go play with your barbies - we'll crush things in our mechanical dork heads. Heh. :-)

Posted by: Hector Vex on May 9, 2005 08:47 PM

I was thinking more in the way of Imperator Autocannons and Sunspot PPCs, SgtDave, but the flamer is a good idea.

Posted by: Alex_fs on May 9, 2005 09:10 PM

This thing looks like it might just skate instead of stomp. I'm thinking it'd have a problem with sand, stairs and inclines.

Posted by: -S- on May 9, 2005 09:14 PM

Well, to the see and experience the ultimate dorkdom go here.
and click on "watch film" under Darth. Be patient, the next to last scene with Darth on stage is worth the wait.

Posted by: Rightwingsparkle on May 9, 2005 09:48 PM

OH, and this film won some sort of Star Wars dork award. It is 45 min long and downloadable for free.

Go enjoy. Look at it as my dorkgift to you....;-)

Posted by: Rightwingsparkle on May 9, 2005 09:51 PM

Is anyone else thinking more ED-209 than At-At?

Posted by: See-Dubya on May 9, 2005 09:54 PM

Oh, I wish I had know you liked this one, I saw it months ago.

;-).

BTW, three questions:

1. Does it come in Wermacht feldgrau?
2. Can I get it in four legs with a chainsaw?
3. If it fought this guy, who would win?

Cheers,
Dave at Garfield Ridge

Posted by: Dave at Garfield Ridge on May 9, 2005 09:54 PM

why do I find the expression "dorkgift" stimulating?

*wanders off to ponder these things*

Posted by: Dave in Texas on May 9, 2005 11:11 PM

Too slow, too big a target to be really useful in combat- at least for now. But, I could see it as having some uses - it would make a great prison guard, for example. Maybe if it was made more like a four-footed animal (at-at) it would be useful in mountains and such, but I can't see this being issued to the troops as is.

Of course, I am not sure what would be better - something like a BattleMech, an AT-AT, or Starship Trooper (the book, not that lousy film) power armor. In any event, we need something for our infantry other than the XM-8 and that new grenade launcher.

Posted by: BattleofthePyramids on May 9, 2005 11:59 PM

See-dubya,

Clearly Battletech/Mechwarrior inspired. But ED-209 is closer than an AT-ST.

Posted by: Russell Wardlow on May 10, 2005 12:36 AM

Here's a good look at how they made ED-209: http://www.robocoparchive.com/info/making1-ed209.htm

I wouldn't know Battletech if it stomped me in the bottom.

Posted by: See-Dubya on May 10, 2005 01:16 AM

Yeah, but just think of the expression on the face of your friendly neighborhood jihadi when that comes lumbering out of the smoke and dust.

I salute our benevolent battle robot overlords!

(Actually what this says is "guy with lots of money and way, way too much time on his hands").

Posted by: Mikey on May 10, 2005 11:10 AM

It kinda looks like one of the machines in Robocop.

Posted by: Kirk on May 10, 2005 02:49 PM

Kirk--

Yeah, like an ED-209!

All I have to say is:

Still one of Wolf's Dragoons at heart.
