Political Quiz From a British Point of View

It measures your beliefs against the general (British) population on crime and punishment, foreign policy, economics, and war.

Karol from Alarming News is considered "very right wing" on the economy and war. Thank goodness. I can't keep up this "conservative" act of mine much longer.

One of these days I have to just drop the pretense and admit that I pretty much agree with everything Jeneane Garafalo says, down the line.

I ended up with roughly the same place on the scatterplot. Which means, according to my views on free markets and the war, that I'm most like a British National Party voter! Gee, thanks for blood libel, guys.

(The BNP is a quasi-racist, xenophobic party. Being lumped in with them is quite the insult.)

Also, I love how Oliver Kamm, Labourite, is thought of as a "far right winger."

Er...roughly the same place on the scatterplot as Karol, of course.

Assuming this "Karol" isn't a fictional conceit created by Ace to take some of the heat off for the upcoming show.

Crime and punishment, internationalism
Your position on this axis is 4.1
You are likely to be fairly punitive and isolationist.

Economics, etc
Your position on this axis is 4.8
You are likely to be very free-market and pro-war.

Shocking.

In passing, this test rates me as far less extreme (though in the same quadrant) than the one Karol linked to, since both the questions and the parameters are much less Euro-centric.

Posted by: Megan on May 8, 2005 05:06 PM

Test linked above:

Economic Left/Right: 6.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.72

Note also that the Political Compass test doesn't provide an easy out in the form of a wishy-washy "don't know" answer. I think that produces far more accurate results.

I pretty much agree with everything Jeneane Garafalo says, down the line.

One night in heaven with Jeneane was all it took for ace to turn!

Here's a link to my results.

"Compared to other women... 94.0% are significantly to your left"

Well, now I know where not to look for a date. I guess this might be a problem if American girls weren't approximately 80,000 times hotter than yours. (Or any other country's, come to think of it.)

We're not sure where you live (outside Great Britain?)"

No fucking shit. That's why we had a goddamn Revolution.

Posted by: Megan on May 8, 2005 05:20 PM

99.3% of Britain is to the left of me on the 2nd axis
(public v private, inter. trade, taxes and Iraq).
Bunch o' weenies.

O/T but happy Mother's Day to you moms out there!

Posted by: BrewFan on May 8, 2005 06:12 PM

Just for fun, I took this test. And it suggested I'd be a right wing religious whacko NUTCASE in Great Britian. Damn.. I'm sure glad I don't live over there.

Posted by: Gun-Toting Liberal on May 8, 2005 10:16 PM

HA! Busted, GTL! I KNEW you were one of us all along! ;-)

You can compare your Political Compass test results (link in Megan's comment above) with other bloggers HERE.

I'm 7.6 / 3.4 --in other words, definitely in the wingnut camp.

Posted by: Beth on May 8, 2005 10:39 PM

On that test (too British!) from Alarming News:

scores: 4.3 / 4.3

results

Posted by: Beth on May 8, 2005 10:49 PM

5.3/3.7, seems like the British Conservative party is to the left of the Democrats...
I'd say that the Political Compass test is bull****, come on, just look at the first question:

"If economic globalisation is inevitable, it should primarily serve humanity rather than the interests of trans-national corporations."

What if I believe economic globalisation serves both? That everyone wins with free markets. What tripe, reminds me of another BS poll question I once encountered that went something like: "Do you believe a person chooses to be gay or that it is genetically determined?". Ugh, pathetic.

Posted by: Otho Laurence on May 8, 2005 10:55 PM

If the statistical sampling of people who took that test is valid, Britain is doomed. I'm pretty much a centrist in Australia, but that thing flagged me as a "right wing religious whacko NUTCASE" along with GTL. Which is an odd thing for an atheist...

The survey Ace linked to has me pegged as a "hanging, flogging eurosceptic" - which sounds just fine to me:)

Posted by: BattleofthePyramids on May 9, 2005 01:48 AM

Well I'm a radical right-wing not by British standards apparantly.....and I wouldn't want it any other way

Posted by: brak on May 9, 2005 09:28 AM

Laurence: "If economic globalisation is inevitable, it should primarily serve humanity rather than the interests of trans-national corporations."

I didn't have a problem with this question and I have the same exact opinion on free markets that you do. I picked "Strongly Disagree" for this one - if we all win, then focus on serving concrete and quantifiable corporate interests rather than some nebulous "humanity."

In conjunction with the subsequent question on the same theme ("The freer the market, the freer the people") I think the test recognizes and accounts for our position.

Posted by: Megan on May 9, 2005 09:58 AM

Crime & Punishment, Internationalism -- .9 (Center)

Economics -- 4.0 (Wingnut)

Wish we could find one of these for the U.S.

Posted by: Michael on May 9, 2005 11:33 AM

Sorry, Megan, on the first pass I missed your link to the alternative, non-UK-centric test.

So, I'm big-time right-wing on the economic scale, and significantly libertarian on the social scale.

Guess I knew that already.
