Don't Bother With This Post; This Is Just For Mom

Dem Bloggers has video of my quick mention on CNN's Inside Politics yesterday.

Mom, it's near the end of the clip.

I enjoyed Judy Woodruff's wondering how it is that someone could just start a blog without reavealing his real name, and if we shoud "talk about that further."

It's scary in the blogosphere, Judy. It's like Thunderdome, except without as many retards in crude iron helmets.

Wait a minute. Scratch that, reverse it. It's just like Thunderdome, come to think of it.

You're kidding - your mom reads this blog? LOL - no wonder Johnny Coldcuts went the way of the dodo...

Posted by: fat kid on May 5, 2005 12:31 PM

LOL!! Good one.

Posted by: lauraw on May 5, 2005 12:31 PM

She posts under the name "Cedarford."

And you're always wondering why I don't ban her.

She means well. She just doesn't like Jews.

Posted by: ace on May 5, 2005 12:33 PM

I'm half expecting them to label you a "fundamentalist right wing nazi-facist" - lol

Posted by: fat kid on May 5, 2005 12:35 PM

BWAHAHAHAHHAA - a "concentrated dose" eh?

LMFAO - how she said that with a straight face, I'll never know...

Posted by: fat kid on May 5, 2005 12:37 PM

Judy's wondering how it is someone can start a blog without revealing who he is? Didn't CNN just do a segment about the fact that children are starting there own blogs in leaps and bounds? Does she want everyone's name, rank, and serial number. WTF?? That was just stupid! Okay! No one is allowed to give political opinions unless you get approval from Ms. Woodruff....

Posted by: Terri on May 5, 2005 12:43 PM

Lorenzo Lamas huh??

I want proof.

Posted by: Rightwingsparkle on May 5, 2005 12:43 PM

I also loved how she said the "concentrated dose" thing with such a straight face. (serious stuff here at CNN) It made it even funnier.

Posted by: Rightwingsparkle on May 5, 2005 12:44 PM

Hi Ace's mom!

Ace, when are you going to introduce us? Didn't you tell me I'm just the type of girl you want to take home to her?

;P

Am I the only one who finds it just a little embarrassing to have people on CNN and MSNBC doing "blog round ups" like this?

Don't get me wrong, I'm one of the blog true believers as much as anyone else, but watching Jarvis and others just do these run-downs of "what's heating up in the blogosphere" seem so pointless and such a waste of time.

I'm not sure, but I think my problem with it may be that they're not reporting news stories. They're reporting and talking about what other people who report and talk about news are reporting and talking about. It would be like Dan Rather doing a rundown of what Tom Brokaw and Peter Jennings said that night.

Like I said, I'm a big blog cheerleader, and think that the collective efforts of blogs routinely put MSM to shame, and that they deserve a lot of recognition. But it seems to me that this daily (weekly?) cable news rundown of stuff people said on blogs completely misses the point.

Hmmm... sort of off topic, wasn't that?

I don't know why I'm being like this. I don't so this for a living.

Posted by: Russell Wardlow on May 5, 2005 01:04 PM

Russell, do you just want to go crazy on Jeff Jarvis? Is it the glasses?

Posted by: Megan on May 5, 2005 01:07 PM

The fact that they talk about the blogosphere means that the MSM is nowing losing the fight. They tried to discredit it with Rather's Pajamahadeen comments and now their using it for a political news segment. They have lost control, Russell. I think it's great and it's FREE PUBLICITY! Increase the traffic that's what I say. Ace will attract some more loyal readers....

Posted by: Terri on May 5, 2005 01:12 PM

CNN has got to do something with the way they keep losing ratings to FOX. This is just their way to dry to jump on something emerging before FOX comes along and does it better

Posted by: brak on May 5, 2005 01:18 PM

I'm of the opinion that even bad publicity is good publicity, unless someone goes to jail.

That said, I agree with the line of thought that argues these Inside Politics blurbs are the MSM equivalent of a condescending head-pat.

They don't care about blogs. Hell, they don't even care about news. They're a business-- whatever gets them ratings.

And blogs are so fucking hot right now, so we get the press. Give it a few months, there'll be something new and shiny to attract their attention, like a blue car.

Cheers,
Dave at Garfield Ridge

IMO, any blogger who sees his or her site displayed (not merely mentioned) on one of these blog report things should sue the channel for" improper use of copyrighted material for commercial gain." I'm no lawyer, but if you're selling advertising time before and after you use my property, on a medium other than my intended method of display of said property, without my express permission, you've violated my copyright, period.

Posted by: TC@LeatherPenguin on May 5, 2005 01:23 PM

I dunno, I think it's more than a little hypocritical for bloggers to shit all over the MSM Monday through Friday, and then pop a woody because someone at Fox or CNN wants to interview them. (Not sayin this is true of Ace, but still...)

Seriously, people. The only reason I turn the frigging idiot box on anymore is to catch baseball games on FSN North. If there's a TV show on that's worth a crap, the DVD season-sets can't be far behind (Battlestar Galactica). And as for getting "news"...pffft. FoxNews is just as bad as CNN these days, just the other way.

Besides, I'd have more respect for these "blog roundups" if they'd include the non-political stuff. I mean, take the zombie thread we had going. That was a hell of a thread! Funny, informative, half-serious and half ball-busting, and everybody chiming in. Ace had his good stuff working on the main post, and the comments made it great. But no; all the drones on teevee care about is politics or Wonkette's keester dramas. Or take the hilarious mash-up Allah did of Pat O'Brien -- that was some classic hilarious shit. Any network could have drawn a couple of points audience share just for playing it.

Bah. Network television should just lay down and die right now.

Dave,

Or a brown dog.

Posted by: Russell Wardlow on May 5, 2005 01:36 PM

Plus which: if Ace is Thunderdome, Dave and Allah could be the Master/Blaster duo! (Who gets to be the dwarf?)

Posted by: Monty on May 5, 2005 01:43 PM

Monty, Allah is obviously the brains in that duo.

And that's not a compliment to Allah.

Posted by: hobogblin on May 5, 2005 01:46 PM

Here's an even better question for Judy to contemplate. How can a Christian-hating, environmentalist nutjob, married-to-a-war-protesting treasonous actress, millionaire scumbag start his own cable news netwrok?

Posted by: Red State Jim on May 5, 2005 02:07 PM

TC - See 17 USC sec. 107: "Limitations on exclusive rights: fair use." And settle down.

Posted by: Alex on May 5, 2005 02:13 PM

Where's my helmet?

I must have missed that perk, dangit.

Posted by: Slublog on May 5, 2005 02:25 PM

I'm guessing that she doesn't know who Lorenzo Lamas is.

I know I cracked up listening to it, especially that flat delivery.

Bwa ha ha ha

Posted by: meep on May 5, 2005 02:38 PM

I thought "Ace of Spades" was your real name. Ya mean to tell me I've been getting the cutting edge social and political analysis that makes me a rave party chick magnet from some pixel pusher who won't even tell us his real name?!?! And I thought my scam radar had kicked in after that Nigerian Oil Minister e-mail incident and the Flowbie purchase. [Kicking self in ass]

Posted by: Tongueboy on May 5, 2005 03:26 PM

Dude that was too fucking funny. Way to screw with that fucking airhead.

So, her job is to read the random opinions of random jerkoffs. That Judy -- you insufferable douchebag you is "hmmmph...interesting."

40-50 thousand new blogs a day? C'mon. I don't believe we should count all of these new "blogs" such as:

IcantbelievetheyvotedoffConstantine.blogspot.com

or

LetsusethenuclearoptionandIcan'tbelieveLauraBushtoldanaughtyjoke.mu.nu

Losers.

Posted by: bostonirish on May 5, 2005 03:30 PM

Ace,

It's not "scratch" that, it's "Strike that. Reverse it."

....a la "Willie Wonka"..... jus' sayin's all....

surf-actant

Posted by: surf-actant on May 5, 2005 03:31 PM

Most of the "reporting" they do is just a rundown of "what they're talking about in the New York Times" anyway. This is an improvement.
