Shock: Soldier Makes Unsubstantiated Claims of Brutality Against US Military, MSM Eats It Up

Well knock me over with a feather and stack me naked in a pile of dirty men.

Always remember: They support our troops. After all, they keep saying so, don't they?

The Mainstream Media

Believe everything we say. We went to better schools than you did! And even if we didn't-- we dress nice!

By the Way, He's Got An Agenda:

Three and a half years later, both his parents are “really proud of me,” Delgado says. Not so much because he went to war—serving a year in Iraq—but because he fought for and won status as a conscientious objector (CO), and is now speaking out against the war, the way his grandfather had spoken out against the wars in Korea and Vietnam, when his father had not.

In other artcles he describes himself as a liberal and notes early reluctance to want to fight, even prior to his negative experiences in the military, and especially at Abu Ghraib. If the example of the Left was followed when it came to allegations made by anyone with a possible agenda or political affiliation, then Delgado’s claims would already have been discredited by the media. (Just think about how many times allegations against Bill Clinton or John Kerry were dismissed out of hand because those making the allegations were either registered Republicans or had any affiliation whatsoever with anyone on the Right.) I do not believe that just because someone has an affiliation or agenda that his or her claims should be ignored, but those facts should obviously be taken into consideration, and I wanted to point out the media’s double standard when it comes to these things.

I'm certain Bob Herbert dilligently noted all this.

I'm certain about a lot of things.

I'm crazy.

I read a book of Ernie Pyle's dispatches from the Pacific during World War II. I know it was a different time and a different war, but I can't help but think that Pyle would be ashamed of the "journalists" covering the war now. Whatever else he was, Ernie was American first and a newspaperman second -- he didn't pretend to have some Godlike objectivist viewpoint. And he sure didn't actively work to subvert confidence in the troops at home.

Journalists are increasingly "activist" in outlook, looking not for a story in and of itself but rather for a "hook" to a larger "theme". Showing American troops in a good light subverts their obvious theme of "Iraq is a disaster", but negative stories (even apocryphal ones) are grist for the mill.

This is the true legacy of the My Lai and Watergate stories. They convinced journalists that they are not there to simply report the events of the day; every story has to conform to some larger ethos or pattern, and since journalism is populated with leftists the ethos is also leftist. I don't think this bias is deliberate or even conscious in any organized way -- it's simply an outgrowth of a monoculture that began in the 1960's. J-School grads are taught by old 1960's radicals, who themselves were taught by 1940's marxists.

We are seeing the end of this kind of agenda journalism, and I for one thank God for it.

We are seeing the end of this kind of agenda journalism

Yeah, but nowhere near soon enough to really help our war effort though.

Why was this guy honorably discharged? I can understand a conscientious objector receiving that status when there's a draft on, but this fucker volunteered.

Seen FOX News lately??? I support totally unbiased news and it's no where to be found.

Okay, who's making all of the anonymous comments? Are you the same troll from last night?

I wonder if this guys dad was Hector "Shipwreck" Delgado... That might even make me a concientious objector...

"Journalists are increasingly "activist" in outlook, looking not for a story in and of itself but rather for a "hook" to a larger "theme"."

"So justice is driven back, and righteousness stands at a distance; truth has stumbled in the streets, honesty cannot enter. Truth is nowhere to be found, and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey."

So saith Isaiah.

You know what this means..expect Spc. Aidan Delgado to become the Jr Senator from New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, or one of the other NE blue states and in 2036, he will run for President - on his war record in Iraq.

Posted by: tinkerbelle on May 3, 2005 06:59 PM

There is no frickin way that an all voluteer military should allow ANYONE to claim conchie status. When there's a draft on, sure, make them medics with the infantry so that it's all the danger with none of the fun, but these fuckers should get a BCD and then be sued into indentured servitude for breach of contract.

After a whole shit load of blanket parties.

In a related story, Lynndie England was in the news again today. Seems she might have been oxygen deprived at birth. I think it's something else.

Has anyone even verified anything from this story. I mean come on, the guy (or at least the paper, which isn't trustworthy) said he enlisted the morning of Spet 11th, PRIOR to the hijackings being known. The first plane hit at 0846, ok so that would give until maybe 10AM before word had really spread and the whole country shut down. Tha't giving a benefit of an hour. What a coincidence that the one guy to get enlisted "just before" the attacks would also become a poster boy for the cowards.

Cheesh, what is the world coming to?

If you can't trust a war-protesting-conscience-objecting-son-of-a-draft-dodger who can you trust?

Grendel's Dragon, a cool new blog by a former Marine says that when guys go for the CO status, they tell him that USMC stands for "U Signed the Mother-f'ing Contract."
