eBay, the Sixth Seal of the Apocalypse

For all of you obsessed with the Jennifer Wilbanks Runaway Bride story-- and I know I'm not -- you can now buy her gift registry and a piece of toast alleged to contain her face amidst the scorched bread.

In a year or two, that sort of memorabilia could be worth... nothing. Same as it's worth now, actually.

So it's a good investment. No downside, you see.

Thanks to LauraW.

"Crazy eBay Mom:" very sad. This woman's house is crammed, floor to ceiling, with crap that she's buying off eBay.

I liked this part:

Those buttplug looking things on the monitor are old glass insulators they used to use on telegraph and telephone lines. I'm assured they also are quite valuable.

It's the electronic-marketplace equivalent of having nineteen cats, three of which are named "Clay" after your American Idol fave Clay Aiken.

Thanks to Yukari.

Wow. Spring cleaning resumes today.

I think I know what her mom's problem is. She doesn't want the stuff -- she just likes typing on the clicky Model M keyboard but doesn't realize that's what keeps drawing her back.

Whoa. That last link simply *cannot* be real. If CSS ever caught whiff of that house, they'd commandeer any living thing under that womans control.

Holy batshit crazy...

I much prefer the 5th Trumpet to the 6th Seal.

During the 80's when Reagan deployed the Neutron Bomb to Europe to counter the imbalance between Soviet and NATO armor, the planners called it the 5th Trumpet, as in Revelations chp 9:

“Then the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth. … It opened the passage to the abyss, and smoke came out of that passage like smoke from a huge furnace. The sun and the air were darkened by the smoke from the passage. Locusts came out of the smoke onto the land, and they were given the same power as the scorpions of the earth. … not to harm the grass of the earth, nor any plant nor any tree, but only those people who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. They were not allowed to kill them but only torment them for five months; the torment they inflicted was like that of a scorpion bite. During that time these people will seek death but they will not find it.”

I actually saved (feb 2004) that Something Awful thread on which this first appeared (December 15, 2003), it was so damn insane. Right now, this useless crap is cluttering my harddrive, making data walk through little cardboard box lined corridors.

Spaz, thy name is I.

Posted by: hobgoblin on May 3, 2005 01:03 PM

truly insane

i'm actually reading the orginal thread just listening to the poor guy answer questions

My best friend in high school collected those glass insulators.

Yes, we played D&D, why do you ask?

I know someone who collects Nazi memerobilia on ebay. His house is full of genuine Nazi memorabilia, WWII era K-98 Mauser rifles, ammo cans of 8mm ammo (some WWII some later), bayonets, SS daggers, helmuts, books, plates and pictures of Hitler.

Posted by: 72NAZIS on May 3, 2005 01:39 PM

helmuts

Now that's really German!

Posted by: hobgoblin on May 3, 2005 02:27 PM

Oh, forgot to mention the gas mask and the mess kit they use every day to eat with.

Incidentally, some of that military 8mm Mauser ammo is hot and some is REALLY HOT! Especially when shot through a light carbine like the K-98. I've always thought it needed punch to cycle through an MG-42.

72Virgins:

Never heard about the neutron bomb being called the 5th Trumpet back then, but I love it!

What stuck in my head was the liberal cant that neutron nukes were the Capitalist Bomb -- destroys people but not property. Gotta admit, that was pretty clever.
