How To Blog (If You Must)

It's probably better you didn't -- you don't need the headache and frustration, and I don't need the competition -- but if you pine to opine, you should take Mudville Gazette's advice.

He recommends, as I always do, that new bloggers begin on Blogspot. It's the gateway drug of blogging, the joint that inexorably leads to heroin spiked with powdered shark penis.

Ahhh, Blogspot. I remember those days. . .

So, if I follow his rules, will I get crazy blog-money like you Ace?

Really, how do you get so many hits each day? Are we really all that "differently abled"?

Or are we just looking at the t-shirt ad chicks?

I just don't know.

Cheers,
Dave at Garfield Ridge

Oh, BTW, don't give away all the secrets. What's next, are you gonna tell them about backdoors? Well, are you, Mister Potatohead?

MISTER POTATOHEAD?

Cheers,
Dave at Garfield Ridge

I used to wish I had the time to make my own blog (like Allah and The Jawa Report) to fill full of Islamic news, invective and vitriol. But believe it or not, I've finally grown weary of all the bad news from the middle east and sick at heart as our MSM and Liberals just continue to pound at everything Bush does (or tries to do) to fight terrorism. I'd have thought by now they'd have started telling some of the good news from Iraq and quit harping about silly shit like Abu Graib (Who gives a shit?) and spreading defeatism.

Eisenhower said that optimism and pesimism are infectious, obviously true. Sometimes I think W really has stepped in this time. If the Goddamed Liberals would just get the fuck out of the way we could really do something over there! Oh, well. Guess I'll just jerk myself off like the rest of you dorks here.

Backdoors??!!

No one ever told me about backdoors!

OMG!

I think Im starting to grow out of Blogspot and Haloscan now. Just not sure where to go yet. Anyone with any suggestions please let me know.

And don't get me started on Haloscan

Whoever invented Haloscan is the Anti-Christ and must be destroyed.

I've graduated to uncut powdered shark penis, myself.

I've graduated to uncut powdered shark penis, myself.

Once it's been cut you can't exactly "uncut" it now can you?

Hey, I resemble those remarks.
I'm still AT Blogspot.

It has one major advantage;
I'm not paying for the storage and bandwidth. Both these have become major concerns as I move up the TTLB scale, and as the years go by. It'll be two years this June.

With the exeption of their weeks long hiccup of last Febuary, It's been fairly smooth, all told.

Posted by: Bithead on May 2, 2005 01:38 PM

I'm still blogspotting, but then I didn't know about the powdered shark penis...

Posted by: Karl Maher on May 2, 2005 02:22 PM

With Blogspot, we get what we pay for. A service whose servers are constantly down, a service that takes forever to update recent posts, and a service whose idea of customer service is to send out automated replies but not do anything about the problem.

I'd switch in a heartbeat, but I'm relatively inept (insert punch line here) about such matters and I'm partial to my blog name, which isn't available as a standalone .com.

the above comment is mine - somehow I lost the name info when I tried editing the comment...

Posted by: steve sturm on May 2, 2005 04:36 PM

Well, as I say, since Last Feb or so, I've had no problems at all... and seldom before that bump in the road.

(Shrug)

Perhaps when I get rich....

I wrote a post today recommending Typepad as a best first blogging tool. Basically, I mentioned the better trackbacks and comments, and the slowness of the Blogger servers, exactly what LHM and Bithead complained about above.
