Fox Butterfield: Moron

This is an in-joke among conservative circles.

For the past, oh, I don't know, six thousand years Fox Butterfield has written the same story with the same headline at least once a year, sometimes several times a year.

The headline is always along the lines of...

Crime Rate Falls, Despite Soaring Prison Population

"Despite"? How about "Amost Certainly Because of"? But no, for Fox Butterfield, there's always some bizarre disconnect between the fact that crime falls as criminals are locked up in greater numbers.

He just can't grasp even the possibility of a cause-effect relationship between the twain.

National Review Online notes that Fox Butterfield's go-to headline is catching on. He doesn't even have to write it anymore; he's got other buffoons to write it for him.

In the Houston Chronicle, we are now treated to Butterfield pastiche...

Crime rate down, but prison population on the rise

Not quite as good as Butterfield -- "despite" is so much more expressive than "but" -- but I think this kid's got the chops.

He'll be a Managing Editor at the New York Times within a year.

That is by far one of my favorite conservative circle inside jokes.

It just KILLS, every time.

Ace, I think you're missing the *nuance* (or is it 3rd grade comprehension of causality?? - ed) .... if the prison population is on the rise, that must mean crime is up b/c George Bush KKKarl Rove Halliburton KKKBR's weather mind-control machine is acting up.

Geez man. Get with "the program".

;)

Damnit - strike throughs dont work.

Posted by: fat kid on April 26, 2005 12:30 PM

Are you saying that crime is caused by criminals?
I don't buy it.

Posted by: lauraw on April 26, 2005 12:38 PM

I know... there are "studies" disproving a link.

Citation? I don't need to cite these "studies." Just take my word for it.

Posted by: ace on April 26, 2005 12:40 PM

fat kid, yeah teh strike function doesn't seem to work, but everything else does (even font size.

wierd, huh?

Posted by: hobgoblin on April 26, 2005 12:49 PM

nope, it only works on preview as well.

loose shit ace.

While the U.S. crime rate has fallen over the past decade, the number of people in prison and jail is outpacing the number of inmates released, the government reports.

Why not:

While the number of people in prison and jail is outpacing the number of inmates released, the U.S. crime rate has fallen over the past decade, the government reports.

The crime rate has fallen BECAUSE of Get-Tough-Policies that work, (as Rudi Julianni proved in NY and Bob Lanier proved in Houston) not in-spite-of, or incidental to, these policies. Crime decreases when punishment increases, not the reverse.

Leave it to Liberals to get the facts and the truth totally as-bcakwards and fuck up all of our lives, again! God how I hate Liberals!

Well, there's a surprise; these are pretty much the same people who noticed that people who've done something worthwhile have a better opinion of themselves, and concluded that self-esteem causes achievement.

After all this time, I'm still in shock-and-awe of the Liberal mind process that can see reality and yet turn it completely upside down and backwards. I shall pray.

And Deliver us from Liberals ...

Well, you need to understand that the Houston Chronicle is now doing everything it can to emulate the NYTimes. Changed the layouts, changed the FONTS, for chrissakes. The writing has taken on a distinctly liberal tint in the last 5 years. The circulation is hemorhaging, and a major grocery chain now has signs up that they're taking their ads out of the paper and going to direct mail. Hearst Corp is about to drill another hole in the ground. I for one won't miss it (unless we have puppies).

Prison population on the rise, Crime rate down.

Less criminals, less crime.

Isn't this obvious to any sentenient being over 10 years old?

A friend informs me that the new Op Ed is a screaming Liberal. I won't miss it either Ed.

They also consistently ignore the relationship between armed citizens, and the safety of those same citizens.

The relationship between ownership of your own labor, and not being a slave. The relationship between lower expectations and lower achievement.

We can do this all day.

Well, all I know is that when I managed to lock up a burgelar, he had a little problem comminting burglaries until he made parole.
I must say that I prefer my criminals locked up.

Call Scooby-Doo and the gang in for this one.

Posted by: Moonbat_One on April 26, 2005 05:56 PM

You guys have it all wrong! Just as the midnight basketball programs for inner city yoot's start to pay off, those neanderthal conservatives start locking up the rehabilitated boys and throwing the key away. Just let the left get back in charge and they'll turn those victimized children out to show the world what you can do with a little self-esteem grafted on.

"He'll be a Managing Editor at the NYT..."

Uh, 'Siobhan' is a girl's name, Ace.

Good catch nonetheless.
