Nazi Professor Fired From Fairleigh Dickinson University

FDU's student paper reports the firing of a viciously anti-semitic and anti-black Nazi-supportin' professor:

Jacques Pluss, an adjunct professor at the Metropolitan Campus, openly discussed his March 21 dismissal from Fairleigh Dickinson in a 44-minute interview on a website of the National Socialist Movement designed with swastikas and a picture of Adolf Hitler. Pluss said he was "removed" from his classroom duties when he received a brief phone call at 5:30 p.m. from the department chairman who, he said, told him he was being released "for the convenience of the university" the following day. "I was stolen away in the night," he said. Pluss reported that he will be paid his salary through the end of this semester. He also said he will retire from "the academic world" and devote himself to the cause of the White Aryan Race Nation.

The professor speculated that he was dismissed because of his work with the National Socialist Movement on the internet, adding that the university "followed the typical Jewish, lawyerly, Hebrew line." He suggested that a "watchdog group" may have alerted FDU about his activities beyond the classroom. During one segment of the conversation, Pluss said the university did not want adverse publicity while its Division 1 basketball team was in the NCAA playoffs. He said the players are "n--- to the core" and "sit in the back of my class with CDs and earphones" listening to "ghastly rap music." Earlier in the same broadcast, Pluss referred to the "browning of America" and called FDU a "heavily Judaized institution" with a large minority student population. He said those students are "floating their way through school on taxpayer dollars," adding that it (FDU) is "not just browned, but singed." He also discussed attending a recent "gathering" of the White Aryan Race Nation in South Carolina, commenting that he had been gratified by the turnout.

I saw this story via Daily Kos. I thought it might be an April Fool's Day goof story, as college papers are wont to run, but it seems to be all too real.

Now, I certainly think this asshole should be shitcanned. But if we're not going to tolerate this form of vicious hate speech, please explain again why we're tolerating Ward Churchill's? Why does the left continue to enjoy the benefits of this absurd double-standard?

Either free speech on campus is absolute and sancrosanct or it is not. I'd prefer, actually, that it not be, tenured professor or not; I don't think a university should be forced to keep Nazis on the payroll.

And neither do I think they should be required to keep "professors" who suggest ways that their students can conduct actual violent terrorism against this country.

But again: Absolute and sancrosanct or not. And if it's not: Fire the left-wing terrorist-sympathizer and agitator Ward Churchill along with this Nazi.

The "National Socialist News Service" Notes His Firing... and whines about the chilling of dissent.

Again, I don't think Nazis and virulent racists have any place on campus... but, but, but: lefty-leaning colleges can't cry "absolute and untrammelled free speech" to protect a shitheel like Ward Churchill and then fire Nazis.

"Absolute" does not mean "sometimes absolute, when we sympathize with the person making the disgusting statements." See: that's not "absolute." That is "contingent" and "limited."

"I was stolen away in the night," he said.

And he's pissed about this? Is he complaining that the university was too half-assed to send actual brownshirts with actual lethal weapons to take him out, the way his heroes would have done?

I say put him and Churchill in a cage and let them fight it out.

Um... the Nazis have their own news service?

Posted by: zetetic on April 1, 2005 07:04 PM

Ace, Jacques Pluss was an adjunct professor of history, which is really low on the totem pole. He might even be a newly-minted Ph.D (although it looks like he's taught elsewhere before). Often adjuncts are people with real jobs who come in and teach a few classes, but aren't even tenure track.

Point being that Nazi boy here didn't have tenure, while Big Chief Little Eichmanns does.

Ya gotta love this line from the NSM's release. I can see where you thought this was a parody:

"We at the NSM also realize that the Constitution is best protected in a free marketplace of ideas rather than by school officials that may be controlled by political correctness and Jews."

Free marketplace, indeed.

Uh oh. Cedarford's gonna be pissed...

Posted by: someone on April 1, 2005 07:05 PM

Apparently. They were using my blog as their newswire for a while, but then they discovered that I enjoyed that "barbaric Negro jazz."

Posted by: ace on April 1, 2005 07:05 PM

Incidentally, "Jacques" seems an odd name for a Nazi.

A collaborator, sure, but an actual Nazi?

Yes, I kinda alluded to that. But tenure is not a thing of constitutional import. Universities can expand it and retract it at will. So I really don't care who's tenured and who is not (I'm sure that professors do).

The real question is whether one can be fired from a university for his beliefs, or whether the university exists to provide absolute and untrammelled exchanges of opinion.

It plainly does NOT (which is sensible enough), and why are we pretending it does? Only to protect left-wingers who cross the line.

I'm sure his real father or grandfather was a Nazi, you know what I mean?

Posted by: ace on April 1, 2005 07:08 PM

OTOH maybe this guy is Cedarford.

Posted by: someone on April 1, 2005 07:11 PM

I believe Pluss claims to be 1/32 Nazi on his mother's side.

Posted by: Alex_fs on April 1, 2005 07:17 PM

Well,I look at tenure as a contract between the university and the professor. You get to teach what you want, show up for class now and then, and you can say all kinds of crazy crap and still have a job in the morning.

That's why FDU is weaseling on the reasoning here. They're saying it's because Pluss didn't show up for class six times that they're firing him. Not because he's a nazi.

Posted by: see-dubya on April 1, 2005 07:22 PM

Um... the Nazis have their own news service?

Where else would Google News get its stories?

Posted by: Robert Crawford on April 1, 2005 07:34 PM

Apparently an "adjunct" professor is one step above "drooling retard" (aka. bloggers who read this site)

Posted by: fat kid on April 1, 2005 07:34 PM

I see the potential for a reality TV show, or at least a sitcom out of this.

The pitch: Jacques Pluss,Ward Churchill, and Farrakhan are stranded on a desert island, (with Adam Smith as their only reading material).
Watch the wacky hijinks they get into, blaming the US for their misfortunes and try to decide whether to call the US "the Man", ZOG, or big lying white father.

For a season finale, Sen. Lieberman can fly in on a USMC chopper and offer them aid.

That's why FDU is weaseling on the reasoning here.

Any contract can be broken. You know that.

And your second sentence undermines your first. It's because the universities claim they support absolute free speech that they feel they need to make up excuses to fire this Nazi jackass.

But they don't seem eager to use similar excuses to fire Ward Churchill. Maybe they will... we'll have to see.

Certainly you won't hear Al Franken championing this fuckweasel's right to talk about "niggers" and "kikes" in the classroom.

Vicious talk like that is only allowed to leftists.

Posted by: ace on April 1, 2005 08:00 PM

It's not true that removing someone from their soapbox infringes on their absolute freedom of speech. They can still say whatever they want, they just can't say it where they want.

Posted by: Snowy on April 1, 2005 08:04 PM

Yeah, Ace, CU is deliberating on the plagiarism and fake ethnicity complaints against Churchill. You can fire someone for "dishonesty" or "never showing up to teach", but not for "being a totalitarian jackass". So they want to preserve the illusion at least that both Churchill and Pluss are in trouble for cause and not for content.

I'm not disputing there's a double standard here, believe me. Just saying that there's a greater level of protection surrounding Churchill's position than Pluss's, and it's understandable that CU wants to preserve the illusion that tenure is sacrosanct.

Posted by: See-Dubya on April 1, 2005 08:53 PM

This is a joke, right? Right?

Posted by: ArrMatey on April 1, 2005 11:58 PM

By the way this is Fairleigh Dickinson University, yes the Fairleigh Dickinson, and I've got to tell ya...fellas...you have got what appears to be a dynamite sound.

Whoa whoa...fellas, it was sounding great...but, I coulda used a little more cowbell. Let's take it again, and Jacques? Really explore the studio space this time. I mean really. Explore the space. I like what I'm hearing.

Never question Fairleigh Dickinson! Roll it!

Posted by: See-Dubya on April 2, 2005 12:35 AM

See-dub,

Just don't say the following:

"I've got a fever and the only prescription is more National Social-ism".

Otherwise, Cedarford might view that as an invitation....

So is this a real story or what?

Posted by: John from WuzzaDem on April 2, 2005 02:51 AM

free speech kinda sucks sometimes .. Well I'm glad I can know counsel my kids to apply to the venerated Farleigh Dickinson U -- gosh I hope their SAT scores are high enough!

Posted by: psflanagan on April 2, 2005 09:49 AM

Think of the double standard in the use of symbols, too. I saw this young guy walk into my favorite coffeeshop last night, modeling a red tee-shirt with the hammer and sickle on it. No one made him leave; certainly I didn't, cuz I thought he was hot, commie or not. But I immediately thought that if he'd come in with a swastika on his shirt, he'd have been told to get out. Of course, maybe the hammer and sickle are viewed as kitsch these days. But my sense was that the guy was "serious."

Posted by: Coffeeshop Intellectual on April 2, 2005 11:20 AM

Jack,

Yes, it's real. First I thought there was a chance it was an April Fool's Day hoax, but it's not.

Real.

Posted by: ace on April 2, 2005 12:03 PM

I meant to address that to John.
