Video: DeLay Press Conferenence

Explaining the bill under consideration.

He blasted Michael Schiavo at the end of the full press conference -- asking "What kind of man is he?" to not even allow the woman to be taken outside in the sun for three years -- but that's not part of this clip.

Update: Trey is working on getting the video of the end of the presser up now. It will be in the same post as linked above, he says.

Good for him... though it'd have been better if he'd blasted him all over....

Posted by: Bithead on March 19, 2005 06:57 PM

I think i missed it. Where does he blast Shiavo?

Who would have ever thought that America would reach a point where their was actually a debate over whether we should allow a woman to starve to death?

Posted by: on March 19, 2005 07:37 PM

Hmmmm... he blasts him in the full version of the press conference. I assumed this video included the blasting.

Sorry if it doesn't. Bad assumption.

I forgive you...this time.

Why the hell would they edit out the best part? Its like watching Scarface on basic cable. Im surprised they didnt dub in DeLay calling Shiavo a "Slug in a Ditch" or a "Mother Hubbard."

Posted by: on March 19, 2005 07:51 PM

hah! Well, pardon the error. I assumed, I didn't check, but as I'd just watched the press conference, I didn't feel like watching it again.

I'll suggest that trey put up the bit at the end. It's not a long bit.

Posted by: ace on March 19, 2005 07:53 PM

So do you actually think they'll save her? Or do you think her ex husband will win in the end?

I actually thought that the Ex would have backed down by now.

This is it:

Question from Reporter:

Mr. Schiavo and his lawyer and his lawyer, and a lot of other people, actually, have been highly critical of you and Congress, saying that this was really none of Congress' business and that you were pretty heavy-handed with the subpoenas and how do you respond to that?

Tom Delay:

Well I've got to tell you, I don't have a whole lot of respect for a man that has treated this woman in this way. He has refused to allow her to have therapy. He has refused to even let her have an MRI.

For the last five years, five years, she's been kept in a hospice and every time they've asked just to take her outside, which they can do, he has refused. She's not been outside, I think, for the last three years. Um..uh, I think his abuse and neglect of his position as guardian is outrageous. And, and,...and partnered with this judge that has allowed him to treat Terri like this for the last eleven years is outrageous. And my question is, what kind of man is he?

Question from Reporter:

Why is this a Congressional issue?

Tom Delay:

'Cause the United States Constitution protects the lives of human beings from being taken by other human beings needlessly.

I'm Tom DeLay! You fuck with me, you fuckin' with the best! You wanna fuck with me? Okay. You wanna play rough? Okay. Say hello to my little friend!

Ace,

Sorry, I didn't see that the video link was being updated, don't want Trey to miss any traffic he's got coming (he earned it), feel free to delete my earlier comment.

Hey, I know, while the government of the crazy round-eyes is clowning around, let's go take Hawaii!

Posted by: Emperor Hirohito on March 19, 2005 09:52 PM

Wow, Tom DeLay is really laying into Schiavo there. I'm just waiting for "Have you at long last no decency?"

Posted by: Sonetka on March 20, 2005 12:07 AM

I loved it when Delay put the smackdown on that reporter that asked what business it was of Congress in this matter.

He referred to some little text in the Constitution that states that we all had a right to Life.

Good stuff!

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
