| Video: DeLay Press Conferenence »
March 19, 2005
Congress Back Tomorrow?Tom Delay: "Speaker Hastert is empowered to call the House back into emergency session, which he will do tomorrow afternoon - Palm Sunday - at one o'clock." From The Corner. Seems a little late-- she will have been starved for 48 hours by then. A normal person could go for 48 hours without food without major incident, but obviously Terri is not the healthiest patient in the world. Still-- I suppose it's something. Thanks to an unknown tipster. Although... You know, I'm sort of annoyed by the "Palm Sunday" thing. Why the hell is Tom DeLay even bringing that up? Is the GOP delaying coming back today just for the symbolic appeal of Palm Sunday? What the hell? And there's an obvious problem with this: the media, and much of the country, has an (often-irrational) antipathy to those who are religious. Can the GOP get that through their heads and stop making these counterproductive gestures which may appeal to one sector of the base but actually alienate a lot of moderates and liberals, and thereby hurt the possibility to enlist the wider public on their side? Update: No cite, but I'm informed the Senate is reconvening at 5pm today. CSPAN-2 Update: Should be covering the Senate in five minutes. From a Previous Press Conference: DeLay: "What kind of man is [Michael Shiavo]?"

CommentsI agree Ace. That was a dumb thing for DeLay to say. He seems to always be tripping over his tongue. But I am glad they are coming back into session. Hopefully not too late. There are some who of course see this as the collapse of the republic and the destruction of the balance of power within the government so expect a lot of squealing. Ace, I believe Terri went without food for almost a week the last time they pulled it. The DeLay is annoying, but I'm not sure that 2 days is going to be a problem. Dave Posted by: Dave S on March 19, 2005 04:52 PM
I've never been a big DeLay fan, but at a press conference earlier a reporter asked what he thought of Michael Schiavo's comments about DeLay and other members of congress who were trying to intervene on Terri's behalf. He basically said that he had very little respect for a man who has refused therapy for his disabled wife, has done nothing to prevent the neglect that she's suffering in the facility where he placed her, and who refused to allow an MRI to be done before starving her to death. Right. Fucking. On. Posted by: John from WuzzaDem on March 19, 2005 05:06 PM
“The Senate will meet today at 5:00 p.m. to pass an adjournment. Passing an adjournment resolution will enable us to bring both the House and Senate back into session under our emergency powers. The House will meet at 1:00pm on Sunday, March 20th in the hope of receiving unanimous consent to take up the measure. If unanimous consent cannot be attained, the measure will be considered on the House Suspension Calendar as early as 12:01 a.m. Monday, March 21. The Senate will continue to work through the weekend to ensure the bill can be passed shortly after the House has acted.” From the Corner again. So are they saying that its likely going to be Monday before the Senate even gets started? That Unanimous Consent thing worries me. Posted by: on March 19, 2005 05:10 PM
A Congressional deal to take it out of Greer's hands? Note that the reporter calls it an "epic right-to-die battle". Typical. Posted by: someone on March 19, 2005 06:03 PM

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals. The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite. Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
