Supreme Court Overrules Lower Leftwing Judges: Trump May Turn Away Illegals at Border Without First Letting Them Into the Country, The "Temporary" Protected Status Afforded to Syrians and Hatians is, Get This, TEMPORARY and May Be Rescinded

It's incredible that Trump had to fight for the right of the executive to turn illegals away at the border rather than requiring the executive to let them into the country to submit their falsified asylum claims.

Now, if an illegal alien is in the US, judges have ruled he gets to stay while his fake claims are heard (for 8-12 years).

But Trump was turning them away before they got into the country.

Leftwing judges decided that even turning them away into the border was still letting them "arrive in the US," so they get to stay 8-12 years while their phony claims are heard.

In other words -- this is so stupid it's hard to graft -- if you stop an illegal alien before he crosses into the country, leftwing judges insisted he still "arrived in America" when he came to the border and now you have to let him in and let him stay.

The Supreme Court said: "No."

NEWS: The Supreme Court just gave the federal government the power to turn away asylum seekers at the border before they ever set foot on American soil.

In a 6-3 ruling in Mullin v. Al Otro Lado, the Court held that a migrant standing in Mexico has not "arrived in the United States" under federal immigration law until he physically crosses the border. Until that moment, the government owes him no inspection and no chance to apply for asylum.

The decision clears the way for the Trump administration to revive "metering," the practice of stationing officers at ports of entry to cap how many asylum seekers are processed each day and block the rest from crossing.

Justice Alito, writing for the majority, rested the case on the ordinary meaning of a single phrase. To arrive in a place is to enter it, he reasoned, and "that conclusion does not change because someone or something blocks entry."

Justice Sotomayor, in a scathing dissent joined by Justices Kagan and Jackson, said the ruling lets the Executive Branch "circumvent all these mandatory procedures by having U.S. immigration officers stand at the border and physically block noncitizens from setting a foot onto U.S. soil." That holds, she wrote, "even if the asylum seeker is certain to be persecuted, or killed, if she is turned away." She accused the majority of an interpretation "driven almost entirely by a fixation on a single word: 'in.'"

Alito was joined by the chief justice, Thomas, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett. The three liberal justices dissented.

Leftwing judges had also insisted the TPP status -- Temporary Protected Person status -- granted to nationals of Haiti and Syria were effectively permanent and Trump could never end them, Because Muh Racism.

The Supreme Court on Thursday allowed the Trump administration to end legal protections for migrants fleeing violence and natural disaster in Haiti and Syria, exposing hundreds of thousands more people to potential deportation.

They Haiti disaster was an earthquake in 1993.

The 6-3 decision overturns lower court orders and allows the Department of Homeland Security to swiftly end temporary protected status, a program that protects a total of 1.3 million people from 17 countries.

The Trump administration argued judges that can't second-guess immigrations officials' decisions about the protections, which were intended to be temporary.

Immigration attorneys said the countries remain unsafe to return, and the administration ended them in an unlawfully hasty process tinged by racial animus. During his 2024 presidential campaign, Trump amplified false rumors that Haitian immigrants were abducting and eating dogs and cats.

The Justice Department appealed to the Supreme Court after judges postponed the end of the program for about 350,000 Haitians and 6,000 Syrians. The high court sided with the administration before and allowed the end of the program for people from Venezuela.

Federal authorities deny that racial animus played a role. They also cited a Supreme Court decision from Trump's first term that rejected bias claims based on his social media posts and upheld a travel ban on several Muslim-majority countries.

DHS has ended the protections people from 13 countries since Trump returned to the White House in January 2025, including some that had been in place for more than a decade.

The terminations were made even though countries like Haiti and Syria remain dangerous, immigration attorneys said. Four Haitian women who were deported from the United States in February were found beheaded and dumped in a river several months later, lawyers said in court documents.

The House passed legislation with a rare bipartisan vote in April that would extend protections for Haitians, though the bill has languished in the Senate.

The U.S. first granted protections to Haitians in 2010 after a catastrophic earthquake, and extended them multiple times amid ongoing gang violence that has displaced more than a million people, according to court documents.

Syrians, meanwhile, were first granted protected status in 2012, during a civil war that lasted for more than a decade before the fall of President Bashar Assad's government in late 2024.

TPS was created by Congress in 1990 to prevent deportations to countries suffering from natural disasters, civil strife and other instability. It allows people already in the country to stay with work permits in increments of up to 18 months, but it doesn't provide a path to citizenship.
