Ace--I understand they are moving away from Steven Hatfill and are investigating a new "person of interest" named Richard Jewell. He has past ties to a bombing in Atlanta.

Possibilities:

1. The FBI has no clue. (most likely)
2. The FBI knows who it is, but can't build an ironclad case.
3. The FBI knows who it is, but news is being quashed to avoid severe embarassment because it was a trusted US military scientist who knows where past skeletons are kept...
4. The FBI strongly suspects who it is, but is in a CYA mode because they booted things so badly at the beginning they have no case.
5. The CIA knows it was a "Black Flag" operation from a friendly nation with access to advanced biowar equipmen. Which intended on "warning" the US of biowar danger, the menace of Muslims....but the operation got out of control - and the whole story is now wrapped in super-grade level security classification to prevent an enraged public from ending relations with the friendly nation.
6. It could have been Islamic terrorists, from a very special sect...those committed to non-lethal Jihad on infidels....who chose to warn that anthrax was in the envelope because they were the nice faction of Al Qaeda, rather than the mean guys that would have just walked into the Capital Rotunda and dispersed it without warning, so thousands would have been infected and progressed to the untreatable stage 7 days later......(This theory also presumes that these nice Islamic terrorists were so conscious-striken that they have foresworn using anthrax spores to attack infidels over the last 3 1/2 years....

I place the blame squarely on Jeff Gannon.

When I was over in Scotland on business, a cab driver told me the anthrax "scare" was caused by the FBI planting the anthrax in order to scare the public and drum up hatred/etc. against arabs. I tried to keep a straight face, what do you all think? :)

Cedarford: You forgot No. 7: It never was anthrax, it was pure cocaine that Ted Kennedy was sending out as party favors (a wacked staffer messed up the addresses) and being very familiar with it a sharp eyed FBI agent spotted it and proceeded to snort up all the evidence. The real question is, was he bribed by Kennedy to destroy the evidence?
