More WarPorn: The Cornershot

I think maybe I've mentioned this little honey before, but now I've got cool pics.

(Pics from The Cellar.)

Yeahp, it shoots around corners:

The CORNER SHOT is the ultimate solution for dealing with the deadly threats that lurk "around the corner" in a variety of tactical situations encountered by military and law enforcement personnel, anti-terror units and SWAT teams operating in open or built-up areas, inside buildings, rooms and enclosed spaces, and especially in forced entry situations.

The CORNER SHOT has already been acquired by police and special forces units around the world.

The key to CORNER SHOT is the swing-hinge front section of the system, a state-of-the-art device that houses the handgun and a compact detachable color video camera. The unique lateral (both left and right) swinging mechanism enables the user to safely sweep, search or engage targets ‘around the corner’ with the camera transmitting what it sees directly to a video monitor. Both the video monitor and the remote trigger control for firing the pistol, together with all system operating switches, are fitted to the frame held by the user.

Also available with "40mm Personal Grenade Launcher," if you act now:

I'm not down with all military lingo. What's a "Personal" grenade launcher? As opposed to what, a public one?

Is lobbing a grenade at someone really that personal? I guess it depends on the recipient's attitude.

Thanks to Bob.

A personal grenade launcher - operated in support of small unit actions by an individual.

As opposed to planned fire missions re: artillery, or even (larger) grenade launchers that operate off of Strykers or mortar attacks coordinated at the platoon or company level.

I remain unconvinced that I would want to launch anything that explodes around a corner ....

"Personal" versus "vehicle mounted" or "squad."

The MK19 40mm Machine Gun weighs about 140 pounds, and fires a couple of hundred 40mm grenades a minute.

Posted by: on March 12, 2005 12:34 PM

It's the kind of grenade launcher you use for home defense.

Posted by: rdbrewer on March 12, 2005 12:39 PM

Go ahead. Make my day.

Posted by: rdbrewer on March 12, 2005 12:52 PM

I didn't realize this at first, but that's basically just a regular Glock pistol with a silencer nestled into the whole Cornershot system in the top two photos. I guess you just drop in your handgun and you're ready to party.

Posted by: See-Dubya on March 12, 2005 12:59 PM

A Glock?

Well then I suggest you handle it only if you are the only qualified person in the room to do so safely!!!

Damn, I loved that video.

My right to carry a grenade launcher and kill a commie for mommie (gawd, my Military Training Instructors in Basic were a riot!) is something I take very personally.

Posted by: Mr. Bowen on March 12, 2005 01:12 PM

It's a very old idea. Someone look up the German StG 44 assault rifle with the Krummlauf attachment. That was a no-shit curved barrel and periscope rig.

Posted by: SGT Dan on March 12, 2005 01:33 PM

The 40mm grenade launcher has to be a joke. The recoil would put your retargeting time at about half an hour.

Posted by: rdbrewer on March 12, 2005 02:27 PM

--because you would have to go and find the weapon after each shot.

Posted by: rdbrewer on March 12, 2005 02:32 PM

The USA having these weapons is just not fair :)

Posted by: leni on March 12, 2005 02:36 PM

I thought the recoil from a 40mm was somewhat less than a shotgun? In any case, it's from a verrah short barrel, so muzzle velocity isn't very high, and no doubt for this application they could use a lighter load of propellant.

Posted by: Mr. Bowen on March 12, 2005 02:41 PM

SGT Dan--If that's like what I'm thinking of, we had 'em for the M3 Grease Gun as well. But it was basically a barrel extension you could slap on to shoot around a hedgerow or whatever.

Seems like a tactical drawback, since you couldn't see what you were shooting at, and if you missed, you couldn't shoot straight when they came around the corner. I think this new gizmo has a servo motor that flips it right, left, and center as needed.

But compared to the M3 and the Stg44, it's a definite reduction in firepower and rate of fire. But if you put in a Desert Eagle with the long barrel, you've got a pretty powerful carbine.

Shark-skin hulls for the Navy.

Posted by: David on March 12, 2005 03:55 PM

I wouldn't bother with the damned thing myself. I'd rather take my handy mechanic's mirror that lived on the front of my flak jacket, sweep around the corner, and go high-man low-man and go for it. You'd do more to reveal your position with the thing than you would just going and clearing it.

And no, a M203 doesn't kick that badly. Less than my '03 Springfield, and definitely less than my shotguns.

Posted by: SGT Dan on March 12, 2005 05:38 PM

SGT Dan,

I sent an email to your hotmail account with a question.

Posted by: ace on March 12, 2005 05:57 PM

I dont actually have anything to say. Im just tired of seeing that "torture and rape" spam in the recent comments section. Loose shit of the most fucked up variety.

Posted by: on March 12, 2005 07:06 PM

I know. But it's very hard to screen this stuff out.

People are already complaining about all the banned words they can't use in the comments.

Posted by: ace on March 12, 2005 07:25 PM

While we are discussing guns...

Did you know that there is a major Kerfuffle brewing in Florida, because Jeb nominated the first (and only) female President of the National Rifle Association to the Florida Women's Hall of Fame?

NOW, of course, plans to protest her selection.

Read about it here if you are interested:

I know return you to what is, after all, Ace's blog. :)

That is so awesome. Just like the robot soldier! You saw that one in Feb, right? If not, here's the article.

. . . and don't forget! it was invented and developed in Israel.

Until they make a potato gun that shoots around corners, I shall remain unimpressed.

Posted by: Andrew on March 13, 2005 12:22 AM

Just so everyone knows....weapons like these are a long, long way from actually being implemented in a tactical environment. We're talking decades...

Posted by: on March 13, 2005 12:43 AM

Dude, I can DESIGN a 90 degree potato gun. If they make pipe fittings for it, it can be made. Shoot me an e-mail and I'll bore you on the subject.

Posted by: SGT Dan on March 13, 2005 03:02 AM

LOL at Sgt Dan.

Do you do your "boring" before or after you "rifle" through your "high-calibre" e-mails?

Posted by: Jack M. on March 13, 2005 03:23 AM

*makes a dives for the wishlist* MOMMY! *points to the pretty pictures* I want one for my birthday!

Sweet stuff. Keep posting things like this!

Posted by: Amy on March 13, 2005 10:29 PM

No, I mean I'll really rattle on with annoying weapons-tech shit until your eyes glaze. I mean I work with guys who pack full-autos for a living, and I bore THEM.

What is the UK Regime's plan for protecting the citizens from the savage criminals they've foisted on the populace? They offer NONE. They do, however, have a plan for protecting the savage criminals from the citizens: The citizens must STAY CALM and not get angry and not share videos of citizens being attacked by savage criminals.
The public keeps saying "protect us from the foreign savages you have imported against our wishes and over our objections" and the UK branch of The Regime keeps proposing plans to protect the foreign savages from the public. Soclose to what the public is demanding, just, you know, the complete opposite.
Just a thought: Maybe you wouldn't have to worry about the public attacking the savage criminals if you actually introduced a plan to protect the public from the savage criminals. Maybe they wouldn't feel as if it was necessary for them to protect the public through self-help.
